Described by several guests as a "Hidden Gem in an Oasis of Green", O Veleiro was the first Bed & Breakfast to open it's doors in Rio de Janeiro! Our location, carefully chosen on 15,000 sq ft of land, in a safe residential area, is the only B&B within walking distance (30 min) of both the Christ Statue train and the Sugar Loaf Cable cars. Also just 7min from Copacabana and the beaches by taxi (can also be reached by public transport bus or metro). The surrounding area offers magnificent views and remnants of Atlantic Forest, while a variety of flora and fauna can be found and wild parrots, toucans and small monkeys visit us daily! We are also pleased to be able to offer our own "home grown" fruits (seasonally), Papayas, Mangoes, Guavas and Bananas in our hearty complimentary breakfast, served from 8-10am each morning. Besides a variety of fresh tropical fruits and homemade juices, Brazilian coffee, assortment of herbal and black teas, hot and cold chocolate, assorted cereals, cold cuts, cheeses, homemade preserves, jams and jellies, cakes and eggs cooked to order, depending on the day we offer waffles, tapioca, pastries, and other specialty items! Our spacious, 4 story, heritage style, family home Bed and Breakfast (Cama e Café or “Hospedagem Domiciliar” - the correct term used to describe this type of accommodation in Brazil), is located on a quiet, cobble stoned road about 1.5 km up a picturesque hillside, which opened the way for horse drawn carriages to the south zone of Rio de Janeiro from the Centro in the early 1830’s. We offer 3 ample, comfortable, private rooms and a friendly, low-key atmosphere. Fresh quality cotton linens and towels and daily house keeping are provided. Our En-suite rooms also offer flat screen LCD TVs with DVD player, a mini bar fridge, and individual air conditioning.Besides our guest rooms, the main areas of our home and gardens are open to our guests including 2 large “salas” – one inside the main house with a wide screen TV and international cable, sports and movie channels and another quieter “sala” near the pool - sometimes used for massage services provided by one of our local masseuses - we also have a small pool and an open bar area on the pool deck. We make sandwiches and mixed drinks – including the famous “caipirinha” – Brazil’s national drink, on request, complimenting the contents of our self-service mini bar fridges. Free hi-speed internet is available throughout the house and gardens and a guest computer is available for a small charge for those without their own internet device. We offer a wealth of helpful, personal knowledge in English, Spanish or Portuguese, to point you in the right direction, and assist you in organizing your stay within your time limitations to make sure you don’t miss any important sights. One of your hosts is also a registered guide with the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism and we offer private tours, walks and hikes around the city and into the nearby mountains for those guests interested. please inquire.

If you’re thinking of staying someplace else you’re making a mistake. This is the nicest B&B we’ve ever stayed in. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was fresh and delicious every day. Rob and Richard were the perfect hosts. Their pet dog, cat and resident

The owner-managed & B leaves nothing to be desired. Rob and Richard take excellent care of their guests. The day begins with an excellent and very tasty breakfast (fresh fruit, local specialties are freshly prepared). They are very attentive, service-oriented and keep an eye on

Thanks so much for your review! We really enjoyed having you and your children stay with us on your first trip exploring Rio, the Pantanal and the Amazon area of Brazil. It is always a pleasure for us to offer as many tips and as much information as possible to help our guests discover the best parts of Rio. We want folks to leave us with the desire to come back and explore even more of what this so called "Cidade Maravilhosa" (marvelous city) has to offer! And as one of us is a registered guide with the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism for 20 years now, we have tips not only for Rio but also for the rest of Brazil and South America in general! Note: besides the regular tourist attractions, we specialize in hikes, walks, day trips in and out of the city of Rio and Eco Tourism. We are proud to have such a big garden and be able to grow our own fresh mangos, papaya, passion fruit, bananas, açerola - even avocados! Which we offer (in season) at Breakfast alongside our freshly brewed Brazilian coffee of course! plus a few Brazilian specialties for the curious to experiment some of the different flavours of our country. We speak native English, Portuguese and Spanish. Thanks again for staying with us - we look forward to having you and your family back again on your next trip! And we hope to be able to offer our hospitality and home to those others reading this review on your own trip to Brazil! Best regards, Rob and Richard

I stayed three nights in this B&B, the rooms are spacious and very clean. The B&B is in a quiet street in Botafogo but still very easy to access A few hammocks are available to chill in on the terrace and a small pool to cool down. I highly recommend this place, great

My husband and I stayed here twice during our trip to Brasil. We did a longer stay in the Pantanal of western Brasil and stayed here both at the beginning and ending of our trip. Situated near the top of the hill, this beautiful pousada offers a relaxing respite from the hustle

Dear David and Byron! It was truly our pleasure to have you stay with us - you guys were really great guests!! And we're glad to hear that you enjoyed our home. Just a note though: we are not a Pousada but rather a Bed and Breakfast or "Cama e Café" as B&B's are known by in Brazil. And we were the first - having opened our doors almost 20 years ago! To clarify, a Pousada in Brazil is like a small hotel, where as in a BnB, the owners must live there and this IS our home! Likewise, we are different than an AirBnB - we are a true Bed & Breakfast, not just a room in someone's apartment or a short term apartment rental. For those interested in checking us out - we have a large property with over 10,000 square feet of area with remnants of Atlantic Forest, great views up to the Tijuca National Park and Christ Statue and across to the Guanabara Bay and Sugar Loaf just in front! Also, several gardens, a large deck area, covered bar and small swimming pool - where guests can relax if they want to take a few hours off from exploring this incredible city. We also own the property beside ours allowing us to keep a forested "buffer" around our home - meaning you have a good chance to see a variety of birdlife while staying with us including toucans and parrots, plenty of humming birds and even some rarer Brazilian bird species. We also receive monkeys, porcupines, and other species. We pride ourselves in our breakfasts, being able to provide home made jams, jellies and juices and often avocados, bananas, mangos, acerola and passion fruit - fresh from our own gardens! For those who enjoy walking, our picturesque colonial road built in 1835 offers a pleasant 10 min walk down the hill (using the shortcut) - to over 120 restaurants, bars, shops, cinemas, busses, Botafogo metro station and even a major shopping mall - all within a 10-20 min maximum walk from the house. And as one of us is a registered guide with the Ministry of Tourism - we'd be happy to give you a customized tour of some of Rio's special attractions, or do a hike in the National Park or even put together an itinerary for you, including places completely off the beaten path. Come see for yourself and enjoy our local hospitality! And we hope we'll see you guys again! Maybe on your 14th trip back to Rio??? Big hugs, Rob and Richard

Bon voyage, Dimitri.
