We have stayed here on 2 prior visits at new Years and planned to again this year but the hotel just kept our money, didn't tell us- we found out through Booking.com and we had to file a many month dispute with the credit card company to get our money back- THIS HOTEL IS VERY VERY BAD
I was excited to be staying in a good location Ipanema - close to both the beach and the main avenues in this lively neighborhood. The location did not disappoint but, unfortunately, the rest did. I booked a deluxe room. While spacious, it was so old and bare that I cannot imagine what a non-deluxe room would look like. I literally remember bathrooms in youth hostels that were cleaner and nice that what I encountered here. Renovations are about 10-20 years past due (yes, it's that bad). The rest was lackluster, too. The breakfast is very basic and simple with a small selection of processed meats and cheese, some fruit and cheap yogurt and what must have been the worst scrambled eggs I ever ate. Oh, and the coffee was bad, too. If there had been any personnel around to complain to, I probably would have. Alas, both times I was there, there weren't even any attendants in the breakfast area. The staff at the reception was efficient, not more not less. If you were hoping to have a drink by the pool on the rooftop, however, you might be out of luck. Never saw any staff there. I just saw that the hotel is now closed... probably a good thing. I hope they will renovate and reopen the kind of hotel this area deserves!…
I had a booking here for October 2018 - prepaid. I received an email that they were closing down and I would receive a refund but since then it has not been possible to contact them. note that I have had to use some dummy entries to post this information - I never go to stay there!
The property is 50 metres from Avenida Souto which is the main boulevard by Ipanema Beach. So if you wish to stay in Ipanema (and fewer overseas tourists are) this is a good base. The rooms are of a good size but they are clearly dated. The hotel hasn't been refurbished for a while. Yet, if you are not very demanding, the rooms are good. Around the hotel, there are many restaurants and ATM banks and the main Ipanema commercial avenue (with plenty of shopping) is only 100 yards away. If you go to beach (which you should) the hotel will provide you with lounge chairs and towels at no extra cost. Valet parking is available. Breakfast is OK, nothing great by Brazilian standards but perfectly adequate. You'll have all you need. Internet is a problem. I got by because I got a local sim card on my 2nd iPhone so I didn't need it, but working on their WiFi would have been quite difficult. It wasn't reliable. Yet this hotel is perfectly adequate if you aren't that demanding. I would recommend save for the caveats herein. We had a great time.…
I booked this hotel via Hotels.com as recommended by a Tourist agency friend based in Rio last year October and paid in full last year October. I just received an email from hotels.com today stating that my reservation had been cancelled 2 weeks before checking in due to “OVERBOOKING” (after being fully paid 9 months in advance). They offered to replace it with another hotel with downgrading, I travel extensively for 11 weeks visiting many countries and I never experienced this before. I would avoid this “highly recommended” hotel at any cost. Fortunately my original choice of Ipenema hotel was still available and made last minute plan.
