Villa Laurinda is a small hotel-boutiqu, run by artists, set in a gorgeous original 1888 Victorian house and two anexxe buildings of fine contempoarary architecture, in a luscious tropical garden with a large swimming pool in the neighbourhood of Santa Teresa, one of Rio de Janeiro's oldest and most charming neighbourhoods, located between the city centre and the beaches. The house holds a comprehensive art library, an exclusive guest lounge and terrace, free wifi internet access throughout the premises. We also offer sauna and a self-service minibar with cold drinks and snacks at the pool kiosk. As a small business, we try to match as far as possible the individual needs and requests of every guest in a place with peace, joy and charm for very reasonable prices.

Cannot speak highly enough of Villa Laurinda. A beautiful old villa on a back street in Rio’s best neighborhood, Santa Teresa. Less than three blocks walking from the center of Santa Teresa’s action but completely private and undisturbed by the noise. Mauricio, Walter and Reina who run the B&B are lovely kind people, as are all their staff. Walter and Mauricio live on site and while the accommodations feel completely private, you feel in the best way as though you are a guest in their home. A lovely, pool beside a peaceful oasis of a garden. Delicious breakfast. They helped us with everything we needed - buying bus tickets, a taxi reservation, checking on whether the tram to Corcovado was open, even a bandaid for a blister! I recommend this place to everyone. One warning, not a problem, just to be sure you are aware: not all rooms have ac. If you want a room with ac be sure to double check that you are reserving one of these.

Wonderful place to stay: very athmospheric villa in lovely Santa Teresa, close to shops and restaurants. Large, very clean room, with lots of places to put your stuff. Staff really went above and beyond with tips and help where needed. The only, really the only disappointment for our young daughter was that the pool was really cold this time of the year ;-) Would definitely recommend!

We started our Brazil holidays from Villa Laurinda. Sometimes you get lucky! A fantastic, tranquil place to get started from: great room, pool and breakfast. Important as well : close to the bustling places of Rio. Recommended!

Whilst the majority of reviews concentrate on the basics of a stay in an accommodation, the part that makes a place outstanding is how well someone deals with problems. Villa laurinda is a very comfortable, clean and welcoming property but has outstanding staff. I arrived there and inadvertently left my passport on the front seat of the taxi. Walter and Clayton spent considerable time phoning the taxi company to track it down , extending our booking to cover our consequential missed flight and gave assistance in trying to rebook. Thankfully their efforts paid off and the passport was returned the following day. This is the sort of customer care that makes places stand out,and I cannot recommend this place any higher.

My wife and I stayed in Villa Laurinda only for one night just before checking into a luxury hotel nearby, the day after. We could have almost stayed there for our entire stay of 5 nights, for several reasons: - Nice welcome by the owner (fluent French and English) and receptionist (fluent English), we felt at home immediately - Impeccable rooms and bathrooms, spotless - large swimming pool - nice breakfast served by nice staff, on a large terrace overlooking the well maintained gardens and pool. - Free wifi À je ne sais quoi atmosphere in this property, a mix of traditional home with wooden interiors and fresh white paint. Arty touch in furniture, art books and more. The area and street where the Villa is located is great as well. The price is very, very small compared with the amenities, book there without any hesitation and think twice before booking sth maybe 5-10x more expensive. This Villa has all what it takes to spend a perfect week in Rio.

Sure, lots of hotels at the beach and especially Ipanema has a nice vibe about it. But if you do not mind taking a taxi to the beach then this place in Santa Teresa has all you could want. A nice pool, a great garden and a lovely old colonial house with lots of atmosphere. We slept in the rooms outside of the house but there were also very tastefully done. The breakfast is very tasty and with a little luck you might even spot a monkey in the garden.........

Lovely Neighborhood, very artsy location, i really like this kind of places with character based on the building, with history and nice service. I like to have common areas with fresh air and sun, love to take the breakfast in the terrace and a quick swim in the pool. Santa Teresa is good option for the B side of Rio. Close to Lapa and bonde tram. Value for the Money. My next time again here.

My stay was far too short in this lovely peaceful villa with lovely garden, pool and bar area and lovely staff. Although on a steep hill, the yellow taxis are cheap and it was a wonderful refuge from the bustling streets of Rio. The nearby historic tram terminus gives a free ride down to the town centre for museums, banks, the Lapa bar district and the Metro to whisk you down to the Copacabana and Epenema beaches. (The tram has a 4R fee to come back up, closes around 4pm). Local bars are good value although with the usual warnings about walking around late at night, there are some only 5mins from the villa and if you mention The Beatles you will make friends for life! I think the whole of South America loves the Beatles and other bands of that era. The locals will also love to practice their English on you. But have a few Portuguese words of your own. Obrigado!

I stayed already the 3rd. time here in this absolutly wonderful Pousada in the artistic neighborhood of Santa Teresa. All the staff where wonderfull from Reception, to roommate and gardene/watchman. Everytime I come back I feel like coming back home. The Breakfast is enormous you won't finish all. And fresh prepared and no buffet which I really prefer. The Villa is set in a green lushy garden with birds singing. A clean pool which is daily several cleaned, free towels , chaise longue and a mini-bar to quench your thirst after a eventful day! I only can recommand this Pousada who likes a quite and relaxed place to escape from hustle bustle of a big vibrating town like Rio. Even I walk back the couloured steps up to Santa Teresa at night and I never feel unsave. Enjoy your Stay here recomanded by Daniel from CH🇨🇭

This is a relatively simple accomodation run by a French-Brazilian duo in the heart of Santa Teresa. It makes for a steep climb after your day, which is the only negative thing I have to say about this place. The hotel itself is a beautifully restored old villa, with a nice swimming-pool. Rooms are simple and either with fan or ac and either ensuite or with a shared bathroom. Breakfast is copious and served by a very nice gentleman. The neighborhood feels safeish when you walk up and down to Gloria or Lapa, but it is a steeeeeeeep climb, especially if you have already been walking around for 6-8 hours a day. The Lapa steps are close by, the nearest metro is Gloria, at approximately 15 min down and 20 min up. You can also take the free bonde tram which will drop you either close to the Lapa steps or you can drive on it over the viaduct close to the Municipal Theatre and Cinelandia metro.
