Neighborhood
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.

I'm writing this while still at the hotel for a weekend escape. Bottomline is: the hotel is excellent. The food, drinks and bar management is very disappointing, often terrible. Let's start with the hotel. Location is great, far from the beaches but close to several interesting spots. There are tons of nice restaurants at walking distance and the domestic airport is 10min away. Rooms are spacious and clean, with great amenities. Everything looks and feels 5 stars right away from the reception. Service is also consistently excellent. An unexpected shift is found as soon as you walk to the pool bar, the "descasados" bar or terese restaurant, though. Here's different deal. The bars were "leased" to third parties both days we were at the hotel. First day we had to stand a Polo perfume launch at the pool bar that was expected to end by 3pm, but lasted up to 7pm with noisy people walking around taking Instagram pictures nonstop while we tried to relax. The pool bar menu is very limited and the wine list is laughable, only with ridiculously cheap options sold at a high premium. The wine supplier is "Grand Cru" but only the cheapest of options are available. There's an expensive fee of 120BRL for bringing your own wine (which I strongly advise anyway). The breakfast at the Terèse restaurant is very good and is available up to noon, which was very convenient. We also had dinner at Terèse and ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing. RUN AWAY FROM THE WINE PAIRING!! I can't emphasize enough how bad and sub-standard the wines were. A total disaster. The food was good, though, but not excellent. The menu consisted of one amuse bouche, 3 starters, 1 entree and dessert. From amuse bouche to the entree, the main elements of the plates were nicely cooked (shrimp, corn sweet, octopus, ravioli and entrecote), technically well prepared, but sidings were consistently over-spicy and often not a good match. The dessert was surprisingly very good. Room service is awful. There are only 5 options of hot meals: hamburger, ham and cheese sandwich, omelets, penne with tomato and basil, and steak with fries. I've never seen such a limited room service menu in a hotel of this category. On the second night, there was a typical June party at the bar, to which the guests were invited. This was again a third-party event that was open to the external public upon an entry fee. Again, this led to a completely different atmosphere than what the hotel offers its guests. While the hotel is a perfect spot to relax, the party was a teenage neo-rich instagrammers mecca. There was loud music and yelling teenagers up to midnight right below our window, while I'm typing this review. While everything else in the hotel was excellent from the start, the third-party events were a true and unexpected anticlimax. I hope the hotel management reviews its leasing policy and the food/drink offers. The hotel itself is a gem and an awesome place for a couple escape to relax. But the downsides are way too relevant to ignore, especially with the pricetag that is charged at this hotel.

We are a family of 4 (with 2 boys aged 11), who stayed in Santa Teresa Hotel in April 2019. Its a beautiful and stylish hotel. Very boutique and modern feel, with fantastic display of historical artifacts. service was exemplary - staff went out of their way to help, including arranging last minute Maracana tickets. Great location in Santa Teresa. Excellent breakfasts - probably the best we have had in all of Brazil during our travels. All in all, faultless. Highly recommended to stay here :-)

What a surprise my wife and I had. This place was amazing, quite, colorful, great food, and best of all--all the employees/staff were very friendly and helpful. Only a short drive by taxi to the beach or anyother place in and around Rio. If you are looking for a quite place to rest after a long day this is the place.
