I stayed 11 days with the Captain, along with my two friends from home, who met me here during my travels. Books Hostel is a great atmosphere from start to finish. Brilliant, friendly staff, that really got involve in making your experience the best possible. Plus very helpful with any information on regarding Rio. They have a cool bar area...

We started our 7 month long trip here at books hostel and by far it has been the best hostel to stay at. Love the bar and the common area. It's easy to make a few friends to go exploring Rio with. Great and helpful staff.

I am writing this review in the hope that no-one else has a similar experience, and the way to ensure this would be to stay at another hostel. This was easily the biggest disappointment in my month in Brazil. I paid $R2000 in Dec 2013 for 2 dorm beds for the World Cup for 5 nights. The receipt clearly stated...

Books hostel in the Nightclub town of Lapa is a $20 Brazilian Real Taxi ride from Copacabana beach and also the domestic Airport. It is a fun hostel with a good atmosphere at night around the bar downstairs. The rooms are big and spacious with a lot of big/safe lockers to use. The hostel is a 1 minute walk from...

Stayed in Books Hostel for 7 nights and were very happy with our stay. The location is brilliant - walking distance to metro, buses, lapa nightlife and a few shops. The facilities are excellent, especially the breakfast and the internet. What stood out the most was the staff however - led by Felipe they are all so helpful and friendly....

I will start by saying if your coming to rio and want to see all the sights as well as enjoy the night life this is the place for you. Well positioned in the heart of lapa 2 mins from buses and 10 from the metro. The street party on Friday and Saturday nights is fantastic. This hostel, thanks to...

So a couple of Brazilian guys recommended this place....and we are so glad we listened! This is a great hostel in a fantastic area, and so much cheaper than others!! The staff have been incredible, taking us on hikes and out to bars in the area etc. The hostel itself is very clean with great kitchen facilities, and the best...

Hands down the best atmosphere out of any hostel I stayed in on my travels. Nowhere will make you feel more welcome, everyone's drinking for happy hour, getting to know each other etc. Great location, rooms are good, the place is just perfect. Big love to all the staff who made it so brilliant, I'll be back.

I stayed here in November 2013 with a good mate, left making 2 other good mates, 1 who travelled with us for the following 10 days. First arrived late on a Friday night, still abit intimidated by Lapa as it was my first experience of South America straight off the flight. We had trouble with a cash machine and the...

I can´t speak higher of the friendliness of the people at Books - staff and guests included. I had so much fun getting to know everyone there. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and fun. The rooms are basic and the bathrooms are too but you don´t go to Books to spend time in your room. Despite it being a party...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
