The hotel is about a 40 minute ride from the airport(traveled in the morning). They will arrange transportation from and to. Ten minute walk to the subway(Gloria Station), which links you to the downtown, tourist sites and the beaches. There is also a trolley which runs up and down the hill that you can catch right in front of the hotel. Restaurants and convenience stores are also within a block and grocery stores within 10 to 15 minute walk down the hill. Breakfast is included with the room, there are a number of choices and the food is very good. There is also a restaurant/ bar attached to the hotel and the food is also very good. The bed/closet area of the the room was adequate and the bath area was large. There was a view down the hill and of the water. There was a safe, TV, desk and chair. What was most impressive about my week visit was the staff. They were all friendly and helpful and most spoke excellent English. I want to give a thanks to Lorraine for helping me navigate the area, and a special thanks to Iza, for not only answering all my dumb questions, but spending a whole day with me finding my way home from Panama City after my original flights were cancelled the day before.

I believe I stayed here for about 4 nights. The entrance to the suites requires you to walk up a hill. I only had trouble when it was raining and had very heavy suitcases so imagine.. I was slipping while walking up the hill.. lol keep that in mind. The check in was simple, and I was taken into my room. I had room 3. It’s an OK place, I’ve stayed in many places in Rio and expected better for the price. I had a cute little view of Santa Teresa which I enjoyed. They offer no TV, only netflix but, I was ok with that. :) They should put some utensils in the room, that would’ve been helpful. Breakfast comes with the price, that’s fair. You choose what you want to eat and it’s great. The staff were very accommodating and two times, I had my breakfast later than I should have but, I appreciated how they were nice about it. I went when people are slowly starting to travel again so, It was very quiet while I was there. Did I mention some spoke english? Very helpful :) There’s also a restaurant that’s open everyday except Monday. It can get loud at night but, it wasn’t really a problem for me. I ate in the restaurant two times and the food was incredible. I was by myself and so, I say this with having the perspective of being one person, who went to a restaurant on a very busy night. It’s not ideal. These feel like two different establishments and so i’ll write a separate review for the restaurant. But, thank you to the staff!!

This small boutique hotel located in Santa Teresa was perfect for our short stay in Rio. Given that we were travelling during uncertain times, we could not have asked for better understanding and treatment from the staff at Discovery Suites. The bar and restaurant was not only convenient but had an exciting range of cocktails and food. I would highly recommend staying in this lovely hotel in the most charming neighbourhood of Rio. We hope to come back one day! Chis & Ane

Our stay at Discovery Suites was such a treat during the Carnival period. We booked it over a year in advance as we knew how busy carnival period would be and we wanted a little bit of luxury during our backpacking trip! We couldn’t fault it. It was so nice to come back to each night after partying during the day. The breakfast was amazing, the rooms were so comfortable and the location in Santa Teresa was perfect, whether carnival is on or not! The best part without a doubt though, was the staff, most importantly Iza! She was amazing- so friendly and willing to go above and beyond to help with anything! Due to our own fault we made a mistake in the booking and would have lost out on a night there. Although discovery suites didn’t have to, they gave us another night included! Iza and all the staff made our stay unforgettable! Would 100% recommend if coming to Rio!

What a wonderful boutique hotel! Absolutely charming with loads of ambiance. Tucked in the hilltops of Santa Teresa neighbourhood with lots of interesting places to stroll to. The staff was helpful and very pleasant. My breakfast was delivered to my intimate terrace outside my room where I could enjoy the sounds of a day beginning. I would certainly go back!
