This is a very quaint, rustic boutique hotel in a very nice little town. Excellent breakfast, very clean place. The rooms are minute, be warned, we spent four nights here. Our room could be accurately described as the perfect machine gun nest. Small and with little slit Windows and a wide view of any approaching enemy. The first day I... More

Our visit to Paraty was wonderful. We made a 2 day visit to this beautiful town while our travel to Rio. This hotel we stayed at was quite unique and very charming. The owner is the artist who has a display of her work thru out the hotel. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit Paraty. My... More

We were privileged to spend 2 nights here. We arrived at 1 AM off a flight from Europe and had to cross a square from the pier to get to the hotel on foot as the pousada is right in the historical part of town where cars can´t go. (Taxis and Paraty Tours which run the transfer from Rio and... More

Lovely decorated with paintings Of the owner and lots of cute little details all over the place. Rooms are small but very comfortable beds and quiet since they only have 5 Rooms ! You must try a Caipirinha prepared by Marinette ,she is one of the hostess and will prepared it with love ! Will be back

What a charming little inn right by the pier in Old Town. Of the four different accomodations on our trip, the Arte Urquijo was, by far, our favorite. The lobby is incredibly beautiful with a perfect harmony of art and garden. You will be asked to leave your shoes at the door in exchange for straw sandals. We chose to... More

This is a little magical place in the heart of the old-town. It is still the original building and it adds to the charm of the old-town. Because it is in it's original building, it comes with those characteristics, smaller passageways, thinner walls, smaller bathrooms. Don't expect the N.American size rooms/bathrooms. You won't find that here, thank goodness ;-). There... More

Open the door to the Pousada Arte Urquijo and you are greeted with the Japanese tradition to remove your shoes. You are given thick straw sandals which you will wear during your visit and upon departure you get to take home as one of your remembrances of your special visit to .Paraty.Walk through the charming lobby surrounded by beautiful art,... Location is in the old town ( close to the sea) and is perfect for exploring Paraty. ( SatNav struggles to get you there over the last few hundred metres) This is a tiny pousada full of local paintings and sculptures, with a small number of very quaint bedrooms. A cosy bar with excellent caipirinhas and wines and likewise a... More

Overall we left Arts Urquijo disappointed. We stayed over Easter and the cost of the room was very high perhaps due to the holiday. While we loved the location and the room itself, tho small, was quite comfortable we where disappointed with the service. We do not speak Portuguese and this was part of the problem. We stayed for 4... More

This is a very special place. The owners have an exceptional good taste of art and the place is packed with it. An experience in itself to just visit and tour, including all the rooms that each is different but all with good taste. Add good food and great cocktails or fruit juices to the exceptional service and fair prices... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located in an old restored "sobrado" (two story house) where its architectural style and the preservation of original materials, including stonewalls, wooden furniture and many wooden details stand out. Some of the woods come from species now extinct. The Pousada is located in the historical center next to the Santa Rita Church, with panoramically view of the bay of Paraty and the Bocaina Mountains. It has a secret view of the roofs of the magical town. This is the perfect place for those who come to Paraty looking to unite with nature. Paraty is the most charming historical port town in the country, its geographical location and natural aspects captivate the tourist and inspire painters and photographers. ... more   less
