Fantastic place. Delicious breakfast made with lots of love. Good accommodations. Friendly staff. We had fun there. Already missing the place... and the cat! Tips: there are some stairs to go up. The hammocks are very comfy.
This place is a bit difficult to get to with luggage (up a staircase alley), but the balcony views make it worthwhile. The staff will also help carry your luggage from/to the dock if asked in advance, and the management is super friendly. However, what let this place down seriously was the stained/filthy sheets. I threw the cover back after a long day, ready to sleep, only to discover the horror in the attached photos. I do not care if the bedsheets were clean, but simply stained. Without being able to confirm one way or another, I simply could not sleep on those nasty-looking sheets. Fortunately, I had both a double bed and single bed in my room, so I stripped the stained/dirty sheets from the large bed, and re-made it using the sheets from the small bed (which thankfully were not stained). The staff/management should have known that no guest would want to sleep on filthy-looking sheets, so should not have thought it was acceptable. They let themselves down here. Thumbs down.…
+ pousada very well located - Missing mosquitoes net, only a few beds have one whereas there are millions of mosquitoes. Only hôtel without an electricity generator on the island ( stayed for 2 entire days without electricity ). The WiFi connection is a joke. Juices for the breakfasts are far too much diluted into water. Pousada manager did welcomed us warmly and overall had a bad attitude.
We loved Pousada Tagomago. It's at the end of the beach, a short walk through the sand to your left when you get off the ferry boat at the dock. It has it's own private walkway from the beach up to the pousada, which was about 200 steps. The hostess and her two sons were lovely to work with. Breakfast was delicious. Our stay was very private and quiet. We loved it!
Lovely pousada, managed by Claudia and her son. They're very kind and helpful! The room was very nice with the most amazing view over the bay! I saw other reviews talking about the distance from the pier. I personally, found it was not so far. Only 10 minutes by the (sandy) 'road' and even less over the beach :) We arranged via Claudia that our suitcases would be picked up. Although you'll walk sand from the beach very easily in the room and the humidity at the island, they are able to keep the rooms very clean. I've never seen a room so clean on a tropical island! Keep in mind that you have to walk some stairs to get to the pousada. If you're generally fit, this should be absolutely no problem :)
The service here was the best we had in all of Brazil. Claudia is extremely welcoming and does anything she can to make your stay pleasant. The location of the Pousada is good in that it is a short walk to the main town and also steps from some of the best food on the island. Please note a few things as they did catch me off guard. If you have a rolling suitcase it does take about 15 minutes through sand or dirt road. You can secure someone to handle your luggage once you arrive on the island and then Claudia's staff handles the luggage on the way back. It is very modest living in the Pousada but it truly helps you feel the escape of everyday reality. If you are headed to ihla grande I highly recommend this Pousada.
We stayed at Tagomago for a full week now in February. The lodge is located hillside and it was awkward to reach and exhausting to climb the steps with luggage when we arrived on a very hot day. Would strongly advise you to contact the hotel in advance as they offer to meet you at the ferry and carry the luggage for you. The room has a very nice view and a good sized balcony but otherwise it is very basic. There is no wardrobe but only a small shelf to place clothes on. Little attention to details and just small things could make it much nicer. The air conditioning worked but was difficult to calibrate and was very noisy when on, in fact so noisy we had problems sleeping. Breakfast was excellent and the family running the hotel ever so nice and friendly. We missed a friendly smile and good morning from a very grumpy man assisting with breakfast... WiFi connection was really a joke. It failed to deliver throughout our stay so we had to go down to the cafe on the beach for surfing the net. We thought the value was a little low and that the hotel was overpriced considering what was delivered. We paid approximately 110€ per night for a very basic room with poor internet. We realize that Ilha Grande is expensive and assuming this price strategy works as not much competition... We therefore score the hotel with *** only due to the value, air conditioning and internet We had a good time though and the island is fantastic. …
Calm place with a nice and clean room, own bathroom with warm shower, own fridge to store your food and drinks. Very helpful staff. Good and solid breakfast. Super view from the balcony to the sea/harbour.
We stayed here for our 5 nights on Ilha Grande and were very comfortable and well looked after during our stay. The accommodation's strongest points are most certainly the warm, friendly and helpful hosts, and the elevated position which gives you a lovely view of the bay. We stayed on the top level (Room 8) and had a balcony with table, chairs and a hammock where we enjoyed watching the birds. As we were on the end we had the benefit of an extra window. Breakfast was varied and always featured a homemade cake along with the other typical choices of bread, tropical fruits and eggs. Cake and hot drinks were available during the day from the communal area, I found this to be a very nice touch. Make sure you look at the photos on the wall as they were taken by one of your talented hosts. Our room was comfortable and had a fridge which was handy. The bathroom was adequate, although the shower took a little bit of getting used to, as I wasn't sure how to control the temperature. Toiletries were provided. If I were to be critical it would certainly not be regarding the staff as they were so lovely throughout out stay, but I would gently suggest that some upgrading might be worth considering. With a little investment, including new mosquito nets, this could be an outstanding place to stay and would certainly warrant a higher star rating. Everything is looking a little worn out and tired. Having said all that, the humble decor did not detract from the pleasure of our stay, and after looking at other places online I suspect that this may be the typical standard of what is available here and that what you are paying for is primarily the location. If you arrive on Ilha Grande by Easytransfer get off at the first stop, which is at a hostel which has a jetty at the far left of the bay as you approach by sea. Walk out of the hostel and turn right onto a little path. Make your way along and down onto the beach. The entrance to the alleyway which leads up to the Pousada is just a few yards along the sand and is clearly marked with a colourful mosaic sign. If you arrive at the right hand jetty near the town, the best thing to do is to walk up the first street into the town and then turn left to follow the road rather than try to drag your luggage along the beach. This would be quite a walk across sand with a heavy bag which also involves crossing a stream. The town route is very straightforward. After passing a little white church and crossing over the second of two bridges turn immediately left, past some rubbish bins on your right and the stream will be on your left. You will come out near some goal posts on the beach Turn right and walk along the sand past several restaurants until you reach the entrance to the Pousada as described above. If you are thinking about what to do during your stay the walks to various beaches, especially the one to Lopes Mendes, are all great. Make sure to stop at the beach bars along the way. We loved the one with strawberry tables at Praia Palmas and also tried the floating restaurant at Praia do Pouso where there was a bird nesting in a plant pot. The sand at Lopes Mendes is like squeaky talcum powder. Quite marvellous. In my opinion a trip to avoid is the "Paradise Island" boat trip. This was a a whole day on a boat visiting various beaches but I felt that only one of these (Denitista) was worth going to. The absolute worst bit of this day was being herded into an a terrible restaurant which only survives because of the patronage of the boat trips, and where we had the most awful meal of our entire trip to Brazil. It is plonked in the swampy part of a lagoon where you wade through murky water and over crab infested sand to get to your grotty communal table. It was horrible. There is no other way of describing it. You would be much better off taking a taxi boat to the beach of your choice or finding a bespoke tour from a local that avoids the hoards of tourists all doing the same thing. The nearby beach restaurants to the Pousada were very nice and we also loved the Atelie cafe on the beach in the town. They had lovely things to eat and drink. Very good for vegetarians!…
Thanks Hugo! We had a lovely couple of days at Ilha Grande. Our rooms were very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious on the deck overlooking the bay. Hugo provided excellent restaurant and day trip recommendations.
