I've held off writing this to see if we could find anywhere worse but in eight months of travelling i can honestly say that we haven't. The roof leaked and because nobody warned us about that, we came home to find that my backpack was soaked through, having been right under the point of the leak. The internet didn't work... More

I am always suspicious of people who write "worst hostel I've stayed in" but honestly, my boyfriend and I still talk (well, laugh - hindsight is a blessed thing) about how crappy Favela Chic was and we stayed there months ago! First thing to say is that it looks kind of quirky and cool and probably was once (although honestly,... More

We arrived from Rio expecting a chilled vibe hostel to relax in. It didn't exactly meet our expectations. There were only two other people there when we arrived. We had booked a twin room, which turned out to have a full set of toiletries already there as well as one filthy set of bedding! Once we got over this we... More

Stop twice at Favela Chic during a little trip around Brasil, Argentina and Paraguay. Nick the owner was very kind and helpful. Always in the mood for small talks or answering my questions. He speaks perfect french which is always nice even if we could speak portuguese or english. The commun areas are great to meet people, with one big... More

This is a great value hostel in a great location - ideally placed to easily see the falls from both sides. Lovely atmosphere and some nice chill out areas, especially the bar. Staff are really friendly and will help with trips / advice on where to eat / picks ups etc. Stayed in the private room with own bathroom, which... More

Like any terrible experience staying at Favela Chic leaves its imprint, an indelible mark on your trip that allows an unspoken connection with other travelers and membership to a special group of hardy souls. Emerging from the doors after a troubled sleep you'll forever have a look in your eye, a look that says you've been there, you "watched roaches... More

Good location for visiting both sides of the waterfalls. Friendly staff that arranged our bus tickets to buenos aires and gave us great tips. The English owner wasn't much around, but the other guys spoke enough English to make themselves clear. Lovely outdoor area where we turned on the BBQ 2 days in a row and also relaxed in the... The owner was very friendly and helpt as with booking our tours there and pointing out some nice restaurants in the neighbourhood. The hostel has a nice hippie vibe to it and is located well, only 20minutes from the falls / airport and the borders of argentina and paraguay. The only negative comments; is was raining when we left, and... More

So this place has a really unique vibe too it, in that it feels kinda roughed up, but still charming at the same time, almost like you're camping, but indoors, hard to describe. Very open air feel to the place. Bathrooms need work, and most things could definitely be newer. That said, the ambiance and atmosphere was one coolest I've... More

My husband and I came here and stayed in the converted van (just for the fun of it). I thought we were supposed to have our own bathroom in the back of the lot but it seemed more and more that people would go there to do their business that would take a long time..... Annoyingly people were always in... More
