Excellent room, excellent service, free shuttle to center, beautiful garden patio to have your tea, free parking, old world charm. It was quite disorganized however in terms of meeting special dietary needs, with many broken promises of serving gluten free bread or pastry “tomorrow”, which never materialized. Would have been much better to say that they could not accommodate that request.

I am sorry that I cannot give the Arcanjo more than an average rating. I stayed here for 2 nights at R$650 all in incl breakfast, a very reasonable rate. The room was spacious and comfortable (allegedly an upgrade to a triple with a lovely view) as was the inn as a whole, full of old world charm and homely furniture enough to turn anyone instantly into a minimalist. The staff were also very kind and helpful, especially Eduardo. The downsides were: 1. Don't use GPS. Ask the hotel for directions before you travel. For some reason very few of the hotels in Brazil send out this information upon reservation - which they should. 2. The shuttle service did not materialise when we needed it on a cold night back to the hotel. Some confusion and delay. The walk to town is not pleasant and on the return leg extremely steep. We didn't bother to try this service again. Taxis are R$20 one way. 3. The breakfast (we abandoned the second one) was the worst I've had in Brazil so far. Tasteless and boring. A vast selection of dreadful pastries and bland scrambled eggs, amongst other untemarkable fare. 4. We had dinner at the hotel one evening to avoid the trek into town. Mediocre all round and severely overpriced at R$172 for 2 persons. Bad wine served out of a box, to boot. 5. I used the laundry service and was charged a truly exorbitant R$319 for about 15 simple items, T-shirts mostly. 6. Check out at 6.30 am was a prolonged pain in the neck, despite the kindness of the staff. When guests in restaurants and hotels want to leave, they want to leave quickly and painlessly to get on with their journey. This was not understood. So, all in all, while the hotel itself is comfortable and good value, our stay was somewhat overshadowed by these drawbacks.

Very nice hotel, very spacious room (we had room 303) with tasty decoration, and practical furniture (long rack to put your suitcases for instance) - very good bedding. Very helpful staff and the shuttle bringing you back and forth to the center of Ouro Preto is definitely something valuable (even if you have a car; you can safely leave it in the private parking of the hotel, and use the shuttle up to 10 pm). Noise isolation between room and corridor could be improved. Good breakfasts with a lot of choices.

We recently stayed at Posada do Arcanjo and benefited from the most exceptional help from them when our hire car malfunctioned. Two hours of translation from Portughese to English later, Ariadne was still smiling and offering us a drink to keep us from meltdown! We cannot thank her enough for her help in making the rest of our stay comfortable, The pousada is on the outskirts of town but the shuttle bus system worked well and those who want to walk uphill back always can. We only had breakfast but that was as ever in Brazil, all we could have wanted. Our room was quiet and charming and we would certainly stay there again if in the area.

Little things count for a lot and Hotel Pousada Arcanjo provides many small but considerate grace notes: a basket of useful items in the bathroom (including a handkerchief!), a sunflower made from a lime to decorate your caipirinha on the patio, afternoon tea replete with local cookies, lots of pillows, a weirdly hypnotic ballet playing on the big screen behind the bar, and a shuttle to the bustling city square that seemed to always be immediately available. Ever so slightly off the beaten track (though walkable to the site seeing center), Arcanjo seemed to work a little harder to be wonderful, and succeeded.

My wife and me and our adult daughter spent two nights at this charming pousada. We were warmly greeted by Samuel and Benicio who helped us with our luggage and check-in. They very kindly showed us how to navigate the town and gave us tips about what to see. Our room was very spacious and was nicely appointed. The morning breakfast buffet was very adequate and the pao de queijo were freshly baked and most delicious. While the inn is located a few steep cobblestone streets away from the main square, we thought it was well worth it. The only drawback is that the inn is located next to local homes, so do be prepared to hear the roosters and dogs throughout the night--it didn't deter us but earplugs we travel with certainly did come in handy. All told, we really enjoyed our stay.

We are pleased that you considered us a charming pousada and enjoyed your stay with us. Our staff is really very attentive and ready to meet all the demands of our guests. We are only 900m away from the main town plaza and we offer a complimentary shuttle service all day long. Our location is very convenient, a step out of the hustle of the main central streets which can be extremely noisy especially when we consider that it is a university town with many parties and events all around. We are sorry for your inconvenient with the barking dogs the night you were here. Recently, we are doubling our windows with the installation of an outer panel that may reduce these nightly noises. We thank you for granting us the top grade of Trip Advisor. We hope to see you and your family some other day in the future. Greetings!

In a few words: staff is amazing, kind, helpful. They serve a "tea time" every afternoon and the breakfast is plenty. General amenities are quite good for the price point. Words of caution though: - DON'T try to go there with your GPS...just call the hotel, otherwise you will get into troubles as we did and apparently it's a classic! - the wifi had constant problems and was almost not functioning in the room. They were very kind and were rebooting the box each time we asked but it was still not functioning well, so...in case it is an important point for you - you need a shuttle to go to the center. It is not super far. and you could walk up the steep hill. But it just adds a little constraint which is important to note especially if you are in Ouro Preto for just a short time - and indeed I think that most (or at least many rooms have no views

We are very sorry for your inconvenience with the GPS and the wi-fi during your stay with us. Unfortunately, GPS is a matter out of our control. The device usually points out the shorter route to the destination, which is not always the adequate one. Our hotel site figures a map depicting the best routes to come to us. But many travelers choose to make their reservations in other channels, rather than browsing the hotel´s own site. The wi-fi occurrence is yet another like point. Since our people rebooted the box but the signal still hadn´t been stable as you described, this is a relevant evidence that points out to the external internet provider and not to the hotel´s internal network. An eventual malfunction out of our immediate control. We apologize to that and are surely taking steps with the provider since the contract calls for a hi-speed optical fiber transmission reaching the premises at all times. We appreciate your comments. As to our location vis-à-vis the center of town, your mentioning of a steep hill came as a surprise to us. We are only 900m from the main town plaza in an almost flat route and no steep hills whatsoever. A 20-minute effortless walk or a 5-minute car ride. And the hotel´s complimentary round trip shuttle upon guest´s demand (no fixed schedules) makes things even easier and is much appreciated by our patrons. Many feel that ours is a convenient location on a quiet street with only local traffic. A step out of the hustle of the main central streets - which can be noisy at certain occasions – and a good night´s sleep guarantee. The convenient complimentary shuttle service also allows our guests to leave their own vehicles in our hotel rather than struggling with traffic and scarce parking space in the narrow streets of an ancient colonial town. Anyway, we can understand that the few minutes during the route might be a constraint, as you have said, if one has very little time to spare in town. We think at least 3 or 4 days in town would be advisable to enjoy its main atractions. Concerning the outside view from the rooms, most of them certainly feature views to the far-away mountains while others not. If this is an important issue, some guests verbalize this during reservation and our staff sees to it when possible. Here once again, we emphasize the relevance of making the reservation direct with the hotel, especially if there are unusual issues or needs involved. We are very pleased that you´ve considered us a great hotel, with an amazing staff, a plenty breakfast and quite good amenities and shared these impressions with other travellers here on Trip Advisor. And our staff also thank you for the kind references to them. We eagerly look forward to having the opportunity to be hosting you again in the future. Cheers!!!

Since our arrival all the way to the check out everything was perfect. The breakfast is a must and has all the local good food and a nice variety of fruits, bread and sweets. The transfer to the City is a really good convenience, and it works very well. We had dinner on our 1st night at the hotel restaurant and food was very good, and they also carry a nice variety or wines. The staff went beyond when they learn my boyfriend was from US and they hang an American flag outside for him - that was very thoughtful and nice.

Sweet, friendly staff. We felt as if we were coming "home" each time that we returned to the Pousada. Everyone welcomed us, asked how our day was...assisted in arranging day-trips and giving any advice needed. The decor is historical colonial, but the amenities are not. There was a flyer in the room describing their efforts to be green and neat features like purposefully putting the shower knobs closer to you so that you can turn on the shower without getting your arm wet at all. What a practical and helpful idea - why do we not see showers like that more often?!
