The Chili Beach Hotel is located on a beach that was voted amongst the 10 most beautiful in the world by the Washington Post. The small village of Jericoacoara has become a much sought after destination by those in search of unspoiled beaches and a non-commercialized ambience. From the very beginning the focus of the Chili Beach Hotel has been to provide luxury accommodation and personalized service to our guests in this very isolated piece of paradise. The fusion of 5 star service and plush accommodations in this very distant and inaccessible region of stark natural beauty is unique to our hotel and has allowed us to cater to those that are seeking this combination. The Chili Beach has an alluring style combining tropical beach design with contemporary decor and luxurious finishing. This 6-room gem can be rented by room or exclusively as a unit, with cooks, maids, gardeners, butlers and security service.

My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in the Ombré Room (quieter one bed suite with a private garden). We visited during carnival holidays so the prices were eye watering. Apparently you have to expect to pay at least double what it usually costs and if you book last minute (like we did) then you have to expect to pay a lot for the room rates. Bc of the high price we were probably expecting more ‘bang for our buck’. The hotel is well maintained with a popular pool for those wanting to spend the day. The hotel is about 7-8 minutes walk from the main beach strip and this is either positive for the people that like a quieter scene or negative for those that want to be in the heart of it. We liked being a little away from the crowds as the hotel backs onto a slightly remote strip of beach with a fantastic hilly park. We had some wonderful long walks and beach days that felt truly special. We also had daily walks to the main jeri beach but always enjoyed coming back to the chilli beach sanctuary. What was truly standout about chilli beach was the quality and variety of food. This was matched by the bar and restaurant staff: absolute gems. We will miss our daily fresh juices, delightful meals and the smiling helpful ladies who cover the evening shift. They definitely deserve special mentions. What we felt could be improved is the reception staff. The contrast is stark between them and the restaurant staff. Other areas for improvement are the quality of towels in the rooms. They were mostly discolored, over used/washed and just simply shabby. Some even had large threads hanging off - Not what you expect for what you pay. We also had about 3/4nights of very noisy Neighbours (shouting/steaming kids). This can’t be helped but you really feel like there’s no privacy or any type of sound proofing if you’re a couple wanting a romantic, peaceful stay. In summary: 10/10 for the restaurant staff and quality of food. 8/10 for hotel design and furnishings. 6/10 for room and reception staff.

OK, let's start with the positives: - The hotel is quiet, with beautiful grounds and a laid back atmosphere. If you want to be a few steps away from the main beach scene, this is a good choice. The hotel overlooks the ocean although not the main Jeri beach (which is less than a 5 minute walk away). - The food is delicious...when it arrives (more said later in the negatives) - We had a two bedroom family room that slept five comfortably...with one on a bed in the living area. The room has a nice outside sitting area that is protected from the sun. What was lacking: - The entrance to the hotel is ugly to say the least...some large wooden construction boards with a tiny entrance between them. No sign at all. Maybe this is the intent...to keep it low-key, but it struck me as strange. - The rooms have almost no decoration at all...and the bathroom had a pretty bad odor coming from it. - There was no security at all and the front desk (which is pretty dark and uninviting) closes at night. - One of our dinners took hours...the first course took an hour and twenty minutes to arrive. Given, they apologized and gave us a free drink, but it was laughably slow service. Also, breakfast doesn't start until 8am which seems an hour later than normal. And you had to pull teeth to get them to give you a breakfast menu. - For what you pay, I expected a lot more...better, more attentive service, some form of security, a nicer entrance, no major screw ups with the meals.

I got an ocean view room. The room was a bit small but I think this might be the general size of all the rooms in Jeri. Since my place had an ocean view it was further in from the entrance, so it was a bit of a walk. The place came with a private outdoor space, but what made it "private" was the curtains you pull out to separate the outside space from the general walk way. That was a bit odd and didn't feel really private. The food and drinks were great, the place was beautiful and quiet. It was not exactly in the "center" of town but nothing is too far from the "center". The service was impeccable and that's why I'm giving it 5 stars. They were so kind to let me have a late check out at 4 pm. If they can make an accommodation, they will do it.

In many years of making my own reservations all over the world, I had the worst experience with this hotel. I made a reservation directly to the hotel but I took the phone number from a famous travel book. I received my confirmation by email (looks like hotel email) and was asked to deposit the whole value. When we arrived at the hotel after a 3.5 hours flight and an hour transfer from the airport in a 4x4 through the sand roads and very hungry the receptionist immediately said there was no reservation under my name and that the phone number I called is no longer used by the hotel. The worst thing is that they knew about the FRAUD because she told us it was not the first time that happened. She was really rude and did not care about our frustration, lost of money and not having where to stay in such a distant place. Many times she said there was nothing she could do.
