wonderful discovery! Although there was confusion with the pick-up they more than made up for it. The staff were very friendly and attention to detail in all manner was very good. Beautifully decorated. Food was lovely. Beach area very good too. Nothing was a problem. I fully recommend and would return without doubt. Distance to beach is totally walkable
We stayed at Uxua. It was a frustrating visit and the worst experience of our many hotels in Latin America, including hotels that cost 50% less than Uxua. The Uxua experience didn't overcome Uxua's beauty. Before posting this review, we emailed Uxua -- to share our experience and hoping they'd think it was worth responding to. We were wrong. Since Uxua didn't think it was worth even acknowledging our email, much less apologizing for our experience, Uxua must think our experience was the one that we should've had -- and so we're sharing it here. ____________________ Uxua is, design-wise, a lovely hotel. And its location is perfect. But our stay there was incredibly frustrating -- daily -- and we had the kind of experience there that was unbefitting of even a 2-star hotel. It was inexcusable for a hotel that wants everyone to believe it's a 5-star hotel. In our experience, it's not. And until the guest experience can catch up with the beautiful design, it can't possibly be viewed as a luxury or 5-star hotel. Uxua's guest experience failures weren't limited to one issue or one day or one kind of issue. Uxua's failures involve maintenance, housekeeping, technology, and concierge. It’s every touchpoint. 1. No evening staff after 10 pm -- which isn't fatal if you have staff available by phone. 2. But after 10 pm, staff doesn't answer the after-hours hotel number or outside emergency number. This is just not ok (for too many reasons to list). 3. Wifi didn't work in our room -- even though we asked Uxua to fix it. In order to get a wifi signal and make calls on our cell using wifi-enabled calling, we had to take work calls from the hotel’s public areas, including confidential calls. This not ok -- particularly for an expensive hotel where you pay a premium to be in a nice hotel room...in part, to work in...and particularly for us because we have a lot of confidential work calls. How does McDonald’s provide working wifi – but Uxua doesn’t?) 4. The phone never worked in our room -- even though we asked Uxua to fix it. 5. The door lock from our room to the outside didn't work -- even though we asked Uxua to fix it. (How is it that we, as guests, are the ones that need to bring such a basic maintenance issue to Uxua's attention? How can the housekeepers not notice that the doors don’t lock?) 6. Even as to the outside doors in our rooms that did lock, housekeeping routinely didn’t lock our doors – even though we asked that the doors be locked. (Why must we ask once, much less repeatedly, to lock our doors?) 7. We think (but aren't certain) that, after hours, there’s no way to get out of the hotel – because the gates at the front desk to the street and to the Quadrado were locked. (We hope we’re mistaken. Good thing there wasn't a fire when we were there, eh?) This was our experience. It was so frustrating that, after the first two days, we spent our third (and last) day outside the hotel because wanted to get away from it -- in spite of how beautiful it is. It doesn’t matter that hotel staff is nice, as they are at Uxua, if they can’t execute. And it doesn’t matter that Uxua has a lovely property, if the experience is so routinely frustrating as to such basic and so many issues that they seemed to willfully ignore. We’d have written this review even if we stayed at a 2-star hotel because all of these failures are not even acceptable in a 2-star hotel. But at Uxua, the failures are far less excusable. We had the kind of daily frustrations at Uxua that we came to Uxua to leave behind at home.…
Family spent a week at Uxua in December 2021. I am brazilian living abroad and every year I take the kids to places I consider the gem of my native country. Trancoso has always been special in my memory, from the times I visited as a youngster still living in Brazil. 25 years later, Trancoso did not disappoint: it is still the same "island" of authentic "brasilidade". And Uxua was amazing. Let me try to summarize it in one sentence: the most charming place we have ever stayed in Brazil. (The competition is tough: places like Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge, Camurim Grande, etc.) Staying in the "quadrado", in your own house, in a nice pousada, and still having all the privacy you need was fantastic. The crew at Uxua is amazing. Some say the price is high, but it is totally justified. If you want to enjoy brazilian charm, authenticity, and comfort, there is not better place than Uxua. Kudos to Wilbert Das and his crew.…
This is a well located hotel, with very good structure at the beach and very good beach bar. However, it needs improvement in many details to reach the category that it claims to be. It is the details that generate a gain in category of lodging. The houses are spacious and well located, but they should clean the mosquito netting more frequently because it had stains and a smell of dust. Besides, when arriving, we were offer a filthy, rusty luggage trolley. We refused and they offered to carry our bags by hand. This was a horrible first impression and I cannot understand because I have stayed in many rustic hotels and I have never seen that kind of trolley for luggage. The ammenities were not very good. Some of the staff were incredible but others need more training. Breakfast was good. In short, I believe this is a good option for Trancoso but do not expect 5 star service.…
We stayed at Uxua for our 3N/4D Trancoso getaway, and absolutely loved the experience with the hotel. A shout out to Denis and Pedro at the concierge, Sheila at the beach club, and everyone else in the team. The team represents the best of Brazilian hospitality. Everyone was warm, friendly, helpful, and attentive. They knew and greeted us by our names. The hotel itself is truly special. The hotel design respects and integrates nature and local culture seamlessly while provides great comfort and privacy. The hotel is located in the heart of the town, so we were close to major landmarks, restaurants, shops, and the beach. The breakfast was so abundant and delicious! Make sure to swim in the pool built of healing stones from Chapada Diamantina national park in Southern Bahia.…
We loved Uxua, a beautifully designed hotel with impeccable service. We stayed in the treehouse which was totally unique. It’s a very laid back place and not doing much is encouraged. The gardens are beautiful and the location straight out on the Quadrado is great, although the walk to the beach is about 7minutes. The beach club is nice, but all beaches in the area are public so you get a lot of Hawkers approaching you. The full moon party was a highlight. Food is great at the hotel, but there are other options on the Quadrado if you’d like to mix it up. We will definitely be back when we are next in Brazil!
I almost don’t want to write this review in fear of this hotel becoming anymore popular. It’s arguably my favorite hotel I’ve ever been to. Situated in the main quadrado of Trancoso, 13 small casas are tucked behind the front restaurant on the square. Each house is unique and so beautiful. More unique than the houses are the grounds itself and the service. Upon arrival, our host Jamie was so kind and gave us a tour of the place and complimentary welcome drinks. He showed us to our house and would stop to say hi anytime he passed us (even off work hours). Our own little house had a large, cozy bed, a kitchen, an outdoor seating area, a garden, and a beautiful bathroom that was half outdoors and half indoors. The bathroom had a very large soaking tub and the best shower. On the grounds they had a wonderful common area where a delightful breakfast was served, and where the pool was. They also had a spa, gym, cooking classes, etc. A ~15 minute walk (or hotel provided drive) away you could find the beach with their bar and lovely cabanas. I personally loved their food at the bar (shrimp skewers were my favorite). The best part of the hotel was how integrated it was with its surroundings. It was very peaceful to be surrounded by such beautiful greenery and nature. All in all, it was a magnificent stay and I wish I could’ve stayed many, many more days.…
We stayed for a week in Terraco do Ceu. The welcome from the reception was great, in fact throughout our stay the staff on the front desk were extremely helpful and friendly. We were invited to the bar for a welcome drink which actually was put on our bill but no big deal. The casa was beautiful and we just loved staying there. Breakfasts were disappointing, Sometimes there was orange juice and sometimes not, fruit was often either over ripe or under ripe and often covered with fruit flies. Eggs were sometimes soft and sometimes hard. By contrast the restaurant on the Quadrillo we thought was outstanding although the prices on the wine list seemed over the top, nothing under R190. The restaurant seemed to do poor business compared to all other restaurants on the Quadrillo and we figured this must be because of price. We did not use the spa or any treatments during our stay, simply because of the colossal cost. We like yoga but R330 each for a session that's over $150 for the two of us!! All activities were crazy prices, 90 minutes mountain biking $240 for two, after sun skin repair with coconut oil $190 for two, massages around $120 each. We found this very disappointing, suffice to say it seemed as though nobody was using any of these facilities and other guests we spoke to had the same complaint. To be fair we had a great week it is just sad that they seemed to have got carried away with the pricing.…
Our stay at Uxua has been perfect, the staff are wonderful they all knew who we where from minute 1, the attention to detail is incredible, food amazing and just a magical overall place. If you are looking for a four seasons luxury type of hotel this is not the place for you, here you feel warm and taken care of , it’s a very family like approach. Breakfast was perfect, the beach bar they have was great and food really good. Concierge team of Carlos and Lidja are amazing as well as overall staff in the hotel, restaurant and beach bar ! I hope to be back!
This place is amazing, the staff is very friendly, and time has made it even better ! i had been here before,... knew the place and the region, but the staff and the environment they've created made this experience a pleasant surprise.
