On the quadrado with its colourful, twinkly charm, entering UXUA is like finding a secret garden. Stunning open plan rooms which a monkey troop passing by daily to delight. Note - there are mosquitoes which is understandable given the climate, so if mosquitoes love you maybe think about room selection. I did not get bitten once but my sweet blooded partner got monstered! The staff are absolutely lovely - warm, friendly, super helpful and really create a relaxed, chilled vibe. Location is fantastic with a short (hot!) walk to the beach club. I think UXUA can drop you off and pick you up if the walk is challenging but we were fine walking. It's our second time to Trancoso and we will definitely return to UXUA. A huge thank you to the team for creating such a wonderful place and ensuring we had an amazing stay.

We visited Trancoso as part of a trip to Brazil. We decided to stay at Uxua for 5 days after reading good reviews and we feel we made the right choice. The hotel is 1:30hrs drive from Porto Seguro and is perfectly located between the Quadrado and the beach. Our room was quintal do Gloria (perfect for two people) and although is close to the quadrado you feel that you are far for everything. Trancoso and the hotel provides you the feeling of perfect tranquility and relaxation as everything is moving at a slow and non stressful pace. Service is amazing and all the staff makes you feel at home. The spa is also good and worth visiting. The beach is around 10-15minutes walking distance and ideal for swimming and relaxation while the food and drinks are decent at the Praia bar. Amazing service at the bar from all the staff. Breakfast at the hotel is very good while the hotel has a restaurant facing the quadrado where the food is top quality. At the quadrado there are several good options for food and drinks. Will definitely recommend the hotel and will try to visit again!

The hotel is stunning, right on the Quadrado and we loved our room, staying at the Estudio. The attention to detail is second to none and can be seen throughout the resort, the gardens, in particular, are beautiful. We were busy each day with activities and didn't make full use of the facilities, but the gym was the best we'd seen and we would have gladly spent more time at the pool. The food at Uxua was our favourite out of all the restaurants on the Quadrado and we particularly enjoyed our cooking lesson- I thoroughly recommend this, Richardson and Peter (I hope I have the names correct) were fantastic. The beach is a 10-minute walk away, but whilst the area itself is exclusive, the beach is public- this means anyone can walk into this area. I'd recommend spending more time at the resort itself which is completely private. I would have loved to give Uxua 5 stars, however, felt they were let down by the manner of one of the concierges who made us feel like a nuisance when we asked for help, rolling their eyes and being abrupt. This was disappointing, particularly for a hotel such a Uxua, but not reflective of the manner of the rest of the staff. I recommend being careful when you arrive at Porto Seguro airport- we organised a driver through the hotel who handed our bags to whom we assumed was an airport worker, only for him to lead us into an incorrect queue and demand payment.

Spent a very relaxing week with husband and 2 year old at Casa Joao on the quadro. Our casa was well appointed and beautifully styled. Food and drinks were amazing. Staff was always on hand to help but never obtrusive. Very laid back and relaxing atmosphere. The beach club was perfection. Beautiful location. Food, drinks and service were again fantastic. Outside vendors on the beach really added to the experience and were never pushy. Massages daily and my daughter loved her horse rides on the beach. Do be aware the beach is about a 10 minute walk down a steep hill. We enjoyed it and felt it was worth it to be on the quadro for the evenings. We tried many of the restaurants on the quadro but the moqueca at Uxua was our favorite. Be sure to ask for some of their their house pepper sauce if you like spicy.

I'm a huge fan of low-season tourism. I went to Trancoso in the middle of June. Luckily the weather was perfect through the 6-days stay (what's surely a fluke in this season). The village was so calm and peaceful. Uxua is placed next to the "Quadrado" (literally "Square") which is the historical site that marks the origin of the settlement. Basically the Hotel deal with the concept of small villas spread over a beautiful tropical garden or two original fishermen's houses (obviously adapted for the new purpose). Two of them have their own private pools. All villas have this mixture of middle-asia/mediterrean aesthetic/architecture and decor/amenities are provided by local craftsmen. Everything is designed to try to visually disconnect you from a modern life (bluetooth box encapsulated in a log that works an amplifier; mineral bottles covered w basketry; fridge hidden inside a counter, same goes for shower etc.). I stayed at Seu João (one of those w small private pool/bean shaped). This L shaped house forms a courtyard around the pool that gives you quite privacy. Yet it's very next to the parking site (not a issue in my stay), and close to gym and spa. To the common pool/breakfast area is about 80 mts distant (so I hardly heard a noise coming from there). Facing this courtyard you have the only and large bedroom and the kitchen/living (this one has no doors or sliding panels like the bedroom). Kitchen is provided w a 5-spot cooktop, sink, fridge and essential kitchenware. Next to it, the living counts w a bar and TV. There is Wi-fi but the signal is very poor so I'd suggest to get your emails in the common area if that's the case. Bathroom follows the same concept (I loved the wooden sink/counter with no doors but in the toilet room. Breakfast buffet is a mixture of local/tropical specialities and continental menu (blue/soft cheese, jamon, ham, egg etc). My favourite was the guava conserve. Heading towards the Quadrado you'll pass through the restaurant which is very good but as everything in Trancoso, expensive (Next to the Uxua restaurant you have "Silvana & Cia" famous for their moquecas, a typical brazilian seafood stew). Uxua offers tho their guest a chaise longue on the Coqueiros Beach, next to their Beach Restaurant so take your time and feel free to have long walks w/o carrying all your belongings. Now, some points I'd consider that some people may find a problem (they were not for me): -hot water comes from metallic pipes, so if you'll try to have a bath in the tub don't be alarmed by the subtle color of the water. It's just a little bit rusty. -you're in the middle of a tropical garden next to forests and mangroves, so it's normal to be visited by bats (frugivorous), small lizards, bugs and inoffensive small mammals sometimes in the courtyard. I've found that quite fun, but if this it's not your thing stay in the houses closer to the Quadrado. -On the beaches because of the mangrooves, it's better check the tides forecast so you won't get stuck on the other side of the shore (if you not willing to get wet). Definitively a will-come-back
