The place is just a mess, bathroom looked like it have not been cleaned for weeks. We had garbage from previous guests still present in the room. Extra thin madrace and pillow smelled really bad, we had to use our clothes to sleep on. The guy at reception does not speak English. Another guy that works night shifts only speaks good English and he was the only bright of light there, positive and helpful. The main advantage is definitely the location of hostel, but they need to work on hygiene and use a cleaner standard. The breakfast, om my God, buy something from the store instead. Coffee is pure water. Additional positive thing was really cool sculptures made from bicycle parts. Check out the photos.
The only reason I stayed here was because they wanted to charge me a cancellation charge if I cancelled my booking. Good location but also can be noisy due to proximity to the centre. My bathroom was dirty, I asked for it to be cleaned and they wiped the sink and changed the bin but it was still dirty. Beds are literally an old foam mattress, mould on the walls, windows were filthy, bathroom floods and the entire building is in desperate need of a revamp. Only 1 power outlet in the room for 6 and the ''lockers'' were flimsy wicker lockers that could be easily robbed. WiFi doesn't work in the rooms and barely works in reception. Breakfast was fine but often finished early without warning. One staff member was nice the rest were rude and barely spoke English. Book somewhere else if you can.…
At first, we were insecure about our choice because the taxi-driver advised us, not to stay there because he said the area is not safe. After some discussion with Pablo, the concierge, we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed. The rooms are simple but cheerful and clean. The sanitary installations simple but functioning. The included breakfast is good. But what's really excellent is the location in the center of Pelourinho and the historic center is probably safer than most other areas due to police presence to guard the touristic spot. Due to its location right in the heart of everything, it's not really quiet at night, there is no noise from traffic but the bustling nightlife can be heard. I would recommend to get a room without AC, since only the internal rooms have AC, but they have no window. All in all a good place to stay while exploring the city, but I wouldn't want to spend more than a few nights there.…
The staff here are pure gems. Pablo, Paulo and Mara made this Pousada a home away from home for us, which I really needed when I came down with the most terrible stomach bug for three days. They were kind, sweet, accommodating, and painless to communicate with even though English was not their native language. They made sure that we never strayed anywhere that would be dangerous for us, and Paulo made an amazing historic city tour guide during the day. Pablo made sure we were moved to a comfortable room when I was sick, and that we had everything we needed to make tea etc to feel better. The private rooms were great value, they are large, very clean, the aircon and fans work beautifully on hot days making the rooms a great place to relax during the day AND night. It was the cheapest place we stayed in during our stay in Brazil and totally was worth the 'extra' spend for the private rooms. The breakfast is excellent, juices, hot drinks, your regular bread/ham/cheese but also breakfast cakes, tapioca and fruits. The location is smack bang in the safest part of town, the historic town of Pelourinho. It's super easy to get a bus, taxi or Uber into the area (be warned Ubers have to drop you at the outskirts of the historic city and you have to walk two blocks to get to the door of the pousada, it's really not that far). There was a bar outside great for socialising and during our time there an awesome Olodum drum band started their parade through the streets right outside the Pousada's door. Our stay at the Pousada got off to a rocky start. Initially we'd only booked into the shared dormitory rooms. The shared rooms are only on the top (aka Third) floor of the Pousada, with all the rooms below being private rooms. That room was as hot as hell. And it only had one fan, which used the only powerpoint in that room. That one fan could only be pointed to one bunk bed out of four at a time (and that bunk bed was NOT ours being at the back wall). It was the most horrible sleep I've had in a while. Plus I'd contracted some sort of stomach bug which was only made worse by the heat. But the staff were just the best when they found out. They had us into an airconditioned private room within half an hour for only an extra 30 real a night, and then a private fan room for the final two nights we were there. The private rooms were super cheap and really clean as you'll see in my positives section. This room would be fine when it's not summer, but in summer I would avoid like the plague until they can fix their fan placement problem.…
I would not call it a pousada, it is more like a cheerles backpackers hostal, but the location is as central ad possible and the staff is very nice and helpful. I didn't like my room but for just one night it was ok. It was located at the back of the building. Probably this side is more quiet but it is gloomy, and a bit claustrofobic, nevertheless big enough. Rooms in the front of the house look much better with a window to open. The bathroom was small but ok, all clean enough, the tv did not really work. For internet (wifi) you have to stay downstairs.
