We are about to leave the Hotel Catharina and we have nothing but praise for the hotel and its staff. It is a small hotel to be sure so don't come here if you need all the amenities of a big hotel. But, hotel is beautiful and only a block from the ocean. The staff are excellent and speaking English... More

I am so pleased I chose to stay in Rio Vermelho for my trip to Salvador - the neighbourhood is full of character, bars & restaurants, music and very friendly people. Catharina Paraguaçu is in my opinion absolutely *the* place to stay if you choose Rio Vermelho: full of character and charm, amazing Bahian specialties for breakfast, good service, stable... More

This in an excellent place to stay - really. Everything works (including the WiFi), the location is great, the staff are friendly, the breakfast is good and its awesome value for money. It's a very charming building with history so it will definitely leave travellers with a good memory of the place.

This 30-something-rooms property carries a lot of history. This is noticeable on the way the property was restored and redecorated back in the 80s: nice paintings and a monumental outdoor sculpture by Mario Cravo Jr., photographs by Pierre Verge, a myriad of tiles by Udo Knoff's students and the pottery from Maragogipe covering the walls and shelves at the breakfast... This was the second time I stayed here during a conference - even though the hotel was far off the conference site, it was well worth the extra trip in the evening. The quarter is charming, very close to the sea, the hotel is cool, quiet, and the breakfast is simply excellent! The rooms are relatively small, but nicely furnished,... More

My husband and I stayed in this lovely old hotel for 4 nights a couple of months ago in November. The room was small but very charming, and we loved the two-story aspect of it--kitchen, mini-bar, and living room downstairs..bathroom and bedroom upstairs. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate, and we loved the Portuguese tiles and colonial furnishings. Unfortunately,... More

This a very nice, calm hotel. We were lucky, had a room with sea view (there are only some). There is a beautiful yard with plants, etc. where you can read. a garden surounds the place. The breakfast is a miracle, so many choices! Very good time!

The building the hotel is in itself is lovely. The location is not great, there are some restaurants and nightclubs, but it's far away from downtown Salvador and the nice beaches, maybe a 10 - 15 minute cab ride (well, it felt far away). Wifi was extremely spotty. I couldn't get it to work in the room except sometimes in... More

We stayed for three nights and really enjoyed it here (following two dull nights in Barra). Lovely hotel. Decorated in a very cool/interesting manner (check out the pictures). The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and immaculately cleaned/serviced. And the breakfast was nice. All in all it had a very relaxed atmosphere - helped by our room... More
