My memories of Bijeljina and the surrounding areas of Republica Srpska, the Serbian province of Bosnia-Herzegovina, had been colored by the war and hardship of the 1990s, and the difficult years of recovery. Two things remained dominant, however: the hospitality of the people and the incredible sensation of the regional food. The Stanisic Ethno Village, about 3km from Bijeljina, recreates a village of wooden houses, including a smithy, a milk house, a granary, and the guest house. They were all brought to the site from their original locations on Mount Zvijezda and Mount Romanija, and together, around the lake, they take us to a very happy place. The guest house (the hotel) is beautiful, although I didn't have time to stay, but I did try the 300-seat superb restaurant, the Konoba. The food, typically Serbian in its immense variety of vegetables and meats, was fabulous, especially accompanied by local wines and rakija. Above all, though, we departed as though leaving the bosom of a family which hated to lose our company. Republica Srpska generally is beautiful, but this is a gem in its midst. The drive of a couple of hours back to Belgrade, in neighboring Serbia, gave us time to reflect and the smiles never left our faces.

At km 3 from Bijeljina towards the Pavlovic Bridge, in the heart of the Semberija , the Stanisic family have built their Ethno Village with 20 wooden original houses reallocated from other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.  There iwas a big parking provided for guests and visitors. Our accommodation was  in traditional wooden house. Big comfy bed, TV, little fridge filled with drinks but no price list in room,  no wardrobe or hangers in room. From 2 PM until 11 PM we had experience 5 short electricity failures. From accommodation above us noise was comming during all stay until midnight.  Kids were constantly running. Because of luck odf sound proof we could clearly hear conversation from next door.Early morning, workers started working and they have been  loud too. There wasn't  telephone in our room,  reception wasn't near by and for every information we needed, with luck of information in room we suposed to go to the reception.  Bathroom was big, shampoo provided but no shower gel. Shower drainage was blocked, so water goes very slaw. Guest are allowed to use wellness and spa for half price , but we decided not to on this occasion.  We've been told to come in morning to the reception for information about breakfast.   Excelent breakfast was served in restaurant next door to the reception. Wish coffee was real, instead tasted like instant coffee. I don't think we shall be back.

A perfect spot to spend a couple of days. We were accommodated in a five-star hotel Ras which looks very stylish and the room was very spacious and beautiful. The beds are very comfortable if you like thick and soft matresses. There are a few things to be improved as the hotel should be renovated in a few aspects but overall experience and breakfast was very good. Breakfast was plentyful and delicious. Leonidas wellness and spa center is great. As a hotel guest you have 50 percent discount for the wellness, swimmimg pool and fitness center services even on the day of the check out. The complex has great traditional restaurants, old museum cottages, a church, swans and fawns. Covered in snow it gave us a beautiful winter tale and espace from city life over holidays.
