What a lovely place. Came for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. We stayed in the Apartment. The original 1 room house was our bedroom, it was so well restored. Breakfast was fantastic, and Kathy was such a pleasure to talk with as she is very knowledgeable about the area. The second night we had a little fire in the... More

Alma, Wisconsin, is a historic Mississippi river town and the Blue Door Inn is a perfect place to enjoy the ambience of the place. The small inn is beautifully restored and maintained and Kathy will ensure that every detail is looked-after. A delicious, real breakfast is served every morning in the cozy dining room. There is a welcoming fire pit... More

This little gem was just what we needed!! We planned on just one night but it was so nice we stayed two. This beautiful restored old inn is located in Alma, Wis and across the road is the Mississippi River great view. The owner Kathy, is very helpful with places to go and things to do. Comfortable beds, nice shower,... More

Blue Door Inn was a comfortable and interesting place to stay on our trip exploring along the Mississippi River. The gardens are beautiful and Kathy is a very welcoming innkeeper. The rooms are nicely furnished and comfortable and Kathy even made us a sack breakfast to take since we had an early check out. I would definitely stay again!

The room was very nice and very well appointed. Amenities included a wine opener. Extremely clean. Hard to climb into the bed using the single- step stool provided. A two-step stool would have been better especially for shorter people. Until check out, the experience was nice. However, when we asked for someplace to dispose of a take-out container, we were... We knew that the Blue Door Inn would be impacted by this experience even though the "trash" incident they discuss had nothing to do with the hotel but the Antique Store next door. As to customer service, the Blue Door Inn stayed open until 11:30pm to make sure the guests were able to access their room with such a late... More

Step back into history in this beautifully and lovingly restored building. Every detail shows reverence for the past mixed with comfort for guests. We stayed in the upper apartment. It was everything we could have asked for and more. We are both history buffs, so we enjoyed Kathy's walkthrough of her renovation as she discovered the quirks and historic finds... More

We were in a small bedroom, which is sometimes rented out as part of an apartment for a large group. It opened onto a common room with a dining table, small fridge and shelves with books and games, which is where the owner placed a basket with so-so pastries, bottled juice, fruit and flavored yogurt in the morning. The bed... More

We appreciate your feedback, thank you! Recently Suite 4 has been upgraded with new rugs, new curtains and two wing back chairs. Now all we need to do is address television ... a 2016 project, but it depends on how much it will impact our nightly rate. More

Newly redecorated. Unique experience. We love trains so the individual whistle calls were interesting to us. Alma does not offer a lot to do in the evening so not having a television was a draw back. Very clean

In our opinion this place is way over rated! Not very clean especially the bathroom which was gross! We booked for 2 nights but only stayed one since by 4:30 the next day we still didn't have fresh towels in our room and the thought of another night there just wasn't good. So we just left our key on her... More

As an eco-friendly practice we do not change towels every day in our rooms, but will inquire if we see the guest and will always do so at a guest's request. Cleanliness is at the top of the list in what we want to provide to our guests, as you can tell from earlier reviews. We agree with this reviewer... More

Really close to train tracks, they run all night and blast horns 3X going thru town. Room has single pane windows, no noise reduction. Rug in room was dirty, also massive cobwebs behind all of the furniture. No cable TV, wifi too slow for netflix .Other than that was OK, cool building from 1800's. Staff was courteous.

Yes ... you will hear trains when staying at the Blue Door Inn, as with any lodging along the Mississippi River. We try to remediate the noise by providing ear plugs. To preserve the historic nature of our building we made a conscious decision not to replace the vintage glass windows. If train noise is a "deal breaker" then the... More
