From the station, the inn is about 20 minutes on the bus and then a 5-minute walk. The tatami room was fine, with separate toilet and bath areas that were rather old-fashioned. The host was extremely helpful - driving us to a shamisen restaurant one evening and back to the station when we left. We also enjoyed a free welcome... More

Not only we enjoyed this property, also had a great time walking around the neighbourhood, Hirosaki Koen (Park & Castle) and Tugaru-Han Neputa-Mura (where you can see Hirosaki Neputa exhibit and learn Tsugaru Shamisen) etc. The owner and his wife are extremely nice!! Ishiba-san provided us lots of useful tips and interesting facts. Speaking of Tsugaru-Shamisen, I loved the music... More

Stayed 2 nights in Ishiba Ryokan (11 - 13 July 2016). Chose to stay here based on reviews about its history and superb location. I would like to add that I had a wonderful experience in Ishiba Ryokan due to the warm welcome by Ishiba Soichiro-san and his wife, the current owners of this traditional Japanese inn since 1879. The... More

Just a 3-minute walk from Hirosaki Park, it's an unbeatable location for those visiting the park and Hirosaki Castle, a must particularly during the yearly sakura festival. The ryokan is in a big and old house that could benefit from some repair. Despite having visited in early May it was still very cold at night and had to use a... More

We have a room with private bathroom and washroom. The room is spacious. Old traditional style which is nice, yet some repair work is needed. But it is clean. Besides the boss, the other staff knows little english but all are helpful. We have a pleasant stay. The Japaneses style breakfast is also good.

I used to live in Kyoto and still travel to Japan 1-2 times a year, and I have to say that the Ishiba Ryokan is one of the best places I've stayed at in Japan. Even if it wasn't a ryokan (Japanese-style inn), the location alone would make it the best place to stay in Hirosaki, hands-down. It is a... More

After a long day of traveling from Kyoto to Hirosaki, we arrived at your hotel and were so happy to have such a beautiful place to stay and rest. The rooms are spacious and lovely. Ishiba Ryokan is still managed by the descendants of the ex-samurai who originally opened it. The current owner, Soichiro, goes out of his way to make you feel welcome, going so far as to take you out in his van for a tour of the town or to recommended restaurants. The room we stayed in was large enough for our... More
