For sightseeing in the DC area, it is hard to beat the Crystal Gateway Marriott for location. Sitting atop the subway station at Crystal City, it is a short hop into the District of Columbia. Nice rooms, good views, very friendly staff.
Can’t say enough good things about this hotel. It started with Stephenie’s personal email before my stay asking if I needed anything. The staff really do an excellent job at this hotel making you feel valued and important. The rooms are spotless and newly remodeled....More

You are driving to Miami from DC? That is a very long day’s drive!
Call the hotel about a shuttle.
Parking is not cheap in the Crystal City area
You are better off renting the car when you actually need it.

We don't know where on the Mall you are going--the Mall is about a mile long. The walk from the hotel lobby to the Metro station (all underground) is about 10 minutes. During the week, trains run every 10-15 minutes or so-more so in rush hours. The Yellow line train, which I would prefer, takes you to the Archives station at 7th & Pennsylvania. You walk a few blocks across PA ave and you are mid-Mall. The ride may be 20 minutes. The Blue line takes you to the Smithsonian station at 12th & Independence. There are more museums here. This ride takes about 30-35 minutes. Metro maps are online.
