Obviously I didn’t do my research. I have been a guest at “The Kimpton” before. Wonderful experience. Not this one. The previous location of the Kimpton Hotel is now The Alexandria. Apparently, Kimpton took over a new Hotel. Horrible experience. I was in DC for My Fathers funeral at ANC. A charge for a suite and valet parking and breakfast. None of those existed. I found myself walking down the street at 5am to get a cup of coffee. Kimpton doesn’t put coffee out until 7:30. I pretty much begged for a cup of coffee, answer, no and sorry. This isn’t a COVID related issue. I travel for a living. It’s an excuse to go cheap. No Kleenex in the room, no water, no coffee maker. I would not recommend this Hotel/Spa.

I was booked to go away to celebrate my wedding anniversary in NYC until COVID hit. We decided to just go local and stay at the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa as my wife loved our previous Kimpton experiences. As a Platinum Ambassador, I booked the highest available room and then rang to see if it was possible to get an upgrade to a room with a bathtub. The woman I spoke with said Saturday was very busy but she would see what she could do. I rang a few days later again and another woman said she had nothing on in the system. I asked her about Sunday night and she just ignored me and was really not at all helpful and more dismissive. I rang on the morning I was due to arrive and a gentleman said he didn't have a room with a bathtub but he would upgrade me to a nicer room. When I arrived in the hotel for an early checkout, which I had set as my preference, I was told the room would not be ready till after 2 pm. It became available earlier and when we checked in we got no food credits, no water no welcome or acknowledgment that I was an IHG ambassador, and no room upgrade that we were promised (or mention of my previous requests). The room I booked was available online via google for $40 cheaper. When I spoke with Wyndell at reception and told him how disappointed I was, he upgraded our room the next night and provided water, and told me I could get a $10 room credit for food despite it been $20 on the IHG website. I was later charged 15.32 for food with no credit applied.?!? All told the experience was dreadful and the staff didn't seem to care about IHG status or trying to be helpful. The upgraded room, while nicer had stains on the doorway to the bathroom. My wife was woken at midnight to shouting and moving furniture in the room above us which went on for quite a while. I am a member of a number of hotel loyalty programs. This is by far the worst. Their room rates, even with company discount are far higher than what is available on other websites and after this experience, I won't be booking with Kimpton again.

I got married in June of 2020 and we planned to have an in-town mini-honeymoon during the time of COVID. A reservation was made a month in advance for a terrace room suite. Kimpton Lorien cancelled our reservation two days before the wedding. The people who were in the room we reserved decided to extend their stay, so I guess our confirmed reservation meant nothing.

Having stayed at two other Kimpton Hotels, the Monaco in Baltimore and the Palomar in D.C. I was hoping for a similar experience at the Lorien, but that was not the case. This hotel is hard to locate as there is very little signage on the street. When I called, we were instructed to look for the valet station and to just park there and come in. We followed these directions, only to be told that there was no Valet, due to Covid-19. I wish this had been shared when we initially booked this hotel. We were then informed that there is parking in an underground area, with a cost of $25.00. Parking here requires you to walk through a smelly stairwell and enter through the employee break room area. Our room (Room #319) was underwhelming and has seen better days. The chipped and worn furniture, small bath towels, along with a balcony door that did not lock were disappointing. We choose the Kimpton because it's a better luxury hotel. I know that hotels are hurting for business, but there was so much need needs fixing at this hotel. The lackluster entrance in the courtyard, empty planters (its fall where are the mums), cigarette butts littering the walkway, an unworking clock tower, and a drained fountain. I miss the grandeur that the Kimpton brand typically offers, thinking that you will stay in a luxury hotel …this Kimpton was a TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT!

The morning restaurant person, I believe Gabriel, was friendly but besides that the whole stay was bad, mold smell in our room and they took 2 days to room move us. Didn’t give us the receipts and never issued us our F&B credit, they charge you for parking in their garage but there was no space to park and their garage was constantly leaking, staff does not even bother to apologize. Very poor stay and do not recommend!!
