Greeted by manager " Synesse" an outstanding, engaging, pleasant personality, laser focused ambassador. Ms. Synesse personally ensured that our special celebration was developed, performed and executed in a outstanding manner. Our suite was very well appointed and she ensured that our treats and champaign were presented in a fashion fit for a king and queen and added a special touch with a personalized welcome and congratulations card. Her staff members are to be commended as well, i.e. Ms. Albany during check out she reviewed our stay with eagerness to affirm that our stay either met and or exceeded expectations. Thank you Ms. Synesse and you are a friend for life! This boutique Hotel "Lorien" is an excellent place to have a mini vacation and relax.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and beds and pillows were super comfortable. All staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. We loved the courtyard, perfect for hanging out with a glass of wine (don't miss the happy hour!) or a small meal (try one of their cheese plates). We visited the hotel restaurant a couple of times and it was great, but there are also lots and lots of other options for food, coffee and drinks within an easy walk.

This hotel has a boutique quality and it was completely renovated last year giving the property a modern boost while still retaining a colonial feel in keeping with the area. Two good reasons we thought for a stay at this hotel. It kind of worked out for us. Our room was stylish, but a little on the small side and lacked room to spread out with a tight closet and limited drawer space. If you want to plug in a computer at the desk, think again. The bathroom was nice with a very large rain shower. The Kimpton happy hour is always appreciated and at this location you can enjoy your wine in a small study off the lobby or on one of two brick outdoor patios. We did not eat on site but the options are attractive looking like the rest of the hotel. We also did not check out the spa, but a gym visit was planned but the small windowless basement room was uninviting and poorly equipped so I passed. The hotel is located on the main street of town, a little bit on the edge, but Alexandria is so charming walking a few extra blocks is a very pleasant experience. There is also a free trolley that runs the main street if you prefer. Overall a pretty good visit, but we were glad we were there for just two nights.

We were traveling with our dogs from Florida and the front desk staff, valet Christian, and the Tasting Room Crew all made us feel at home. Special treats for our dogs, a valet that always greeted our 6 year old daughter by first name, and a great coffee/tea/happy hour are all reasons we will always stay at a Kimpton. Day, the front desk attendant made us feel like ‘special vip guests.’ The other staff at the front were always happy to help with anything we needed. It truly felt that they loved their jobs and wanted us to feel taken care of. We had a loss of AC for roughly 2 hours but the staff made sure we were kept cool w refreshments and took care to make sure it was fixed as quickly as possible. They followed up with a call and visit to our room several times to make sure it was fixed. We love the Kimpton Hotel group and will only stay in their hotels!!!!!

This is a smaller boutique hotel with fewer public areas and more limited services than a large five star hotel but it is a personal favorite - I love the location in easy walking distance to the free Trolley bus on King Street and to the many excellent restaurants and shops in the area. It is a quiet haven away from the bustle, the rooms are modern and very clean and I found the restaurant to be excellent. I have stayed at this hotel many times and I was especially pleased with the service this stay. All members of staff were very professional and helpful but in particular the front desk personnel went out of their way to assist and ensure we had everything we needed. It’s the little things that count and they go the extra mile. (Note: 24 hour room service is available but it is a limited menu after 11.00 pm - however this was very welcome when I arrived after a long drive late at night). The staff attitude was always great - nothing was too much trouble and when I enquired about a sewing kit they sent one up (no charge) within a few minutes. This is also one hotel that has hypo-allergic/feather free rooms and my room was ready prior to arrival - sadly not always the case with many hotel groups. I will definitely return to the Lorien when next in the area and I have no hesitation in recommending it.
