Detailed Reviews
My wife and I will surely return and possibly not wait until next year. Orquida and Dan Ingraham served us the best 2 breakfasts we can remember. The Goodwin room was excellent-the linens/sheets were very comfortable and the individual cooling system along with ceiling fan worked great in the VA summer heat. We enjoyed the company of another interesting couple from out of state during breakfast. The location could not be better, close to great restaurants, super wineries, orchards, and The Greenwood Country Store.

Orquida and Dan went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We stayed over the 4th of July holiday weekend and had a very enjoyable experience. The Jefferson room was perfect for our 2 night stay and was very clean.
The house is beautiful and has a perfect mix of old time charm with modern amenities. Outside the property is very well kept and at night we loved sitting by the fire pit in Adirondack chairs.
One of our favorite aspects was the homemade breakfast served every morning. The food exceeded our expectations and was a great start to each day. The area around Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast is perfect for anyone interested in hiking or just visiting the top notch breweries all within a few miles of the home.
After our stay we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend escape!

Traveling can be anxiety-producing in these Covid times, but we have come to rely on the Afton Mountain BnB with hosts Dan and Orquida to provide a place we feel welcomed and safe. Located in a beautiful valley just minutes from skiing, hiking, the Parkway and Skyline Drive, breweries and wineries, it has something for everyone, including just taking it easy.
Dan's homemade cookies, tea service in the evening, a delicious breakfast each morning, and some snacks to take with you for the day are evidence of their efforts to make each guest feel cared for and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and the mattresses are just what you need after a day of travel or active outdoor activity.
If you are traveling I-81 or US29, and need a place to stay in VA, its more than worth the few additional miles to get to Afton Mountain BnB!

The room was very comfortable and in a central location for the wineries. The house has a main road on the front and a road on one side which was noisy if outside but the room was quiet. The breakfast didn't offer choices but was good it was 2 pieces of bacon with a cream cheese stuffed French toast and yogurt. Now the negatives, for a BnB we were disappointed in the friendliness of the owner. From the time we came in she was extremely paranoid about being closer than 15' from us even saying not to come closer. When we were served breakfast we never even saw her because she asked us to go sit in another room so she could place it on the table. We understand Covid but bed and breakfast places are about hospitality and socializing. You go to them for that instead of a motel. We never even saw her husband and saw neither when we checked out. Another couple was there for 2 days and they said they almost left after thd first day because of the same issue. When I asked if they had wine or a social hour she said they would NEVER have alcohol offered that after people had been out trying thd local wineries and breweries that they weren't going to throw fuel on a fire. They don't mind if you drink but they wont offer it. It was our first trip to the area which we loved but we wouldn't stay there again. Also check out is 10 and there is NOTHING in the area open until 11

Melissa - We greatly appreciate your taking the time to share some thoughts about your recent experience at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast and your concerns about how we are operating during the COVID-19 pandemic. We regret that your expectations for a more social environment were not met, and we completely understand that it's disappointing that we can't offer exactly the same experience that we have for the first 18 years of running the B&B. (One correction: our check-out time is 11:00 a.m. We apologize that you were under the impression that it was 10:00 a.m.). We want to make it clear that our operating policies and procedures during the pandemic, which are clearly spelled out on our website and in communications prior to guests' arrival, are not a matter of choice. We, like all other professional innkeepers, have had to alter our entire way of interacting with guests, from wearing masks and keeping a safe distance (6 ft., not 15) when we welcome them at the front door, to arranging for separate dining areas for breakfast. Believe us, we would LOVE to go back to "normal", where we can fully socialize with our guests, see their faces and smiles again! and allow them to enjoy a meal together. But we HAVE to make our guests' and our own safety the first priority. Although our guests coming here to have a brief vacation from the burden of COVID, we all have to realize that COVID doesn't take a vacation. We need to act and operate as if we all have the virus and are contagious. Certainly, there are some potential guests who will choose not to stay with us during the pandemic either because they are concerned about potential exposure or because they want the full, social B&B experience. And that's perfectly understandable. We hope they'll visit once this craziness is behind us. In the meantime, we are happy to welcome anyone looking for a brief escape - especially front-line workers and first responders - willing to take the necessary precautions to keep us all safe, and enjoy a slightly different B&B experience Our apologies to anyone reading this post-COVID (there will be a post-COVID, right?).

Wonderful way to spend our 40th anniversary! We stayed in the Shenandoah suite and VERY pleased with the comfort level of the bed; the entire room was beyond clean and was well stocked with all our essential linens. We had our morning coffee on the front porch each day and then enjoyed the delicious breakfast in the dining room. The hosts were extremely friendly and helped us with any concern or question that arose during our stay. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this B and B!.

My friend and I stayed two nights at the B&B and could not have felt safer in this COVID climate. The house was spotless, the owners super careful, and all precautions were taken. The room was very comfortable and the sanitized. The location was close to wineries and breweries in the heart of Virginia wine country. It was like being at home. And breakfast was absolutely delicious. The owners were easily accessible via text and very accommodating.
I highly recommend staying at Afton Mountain B&B.

I like the proximity this B and B is to everything in the area. Near hiking, wine trail, good food.... It would be a great base camp if exploring multiple days. Besides that, the B and B itself was great. We stayed in the downstairs room and did not hear any noise from keepers or other guests. They are very COVID sensitive and we felt safe the whole time. The ambience, inkeepers' warmth and advice on the area, along with the delicious home cooked breakfast made for a great overnight while we explored this part of Virginia. Would definitely recommend for one or several nights.

We could not have chosen a better place than Afton Mountain Inn as our home base for some hiking along the Blue Ridge in November. We stayed in the Goodwin Room, which offers a great view of the mountains, along with easy access to a covered porch from which to enjoy the vista. We appreciated the very comfy king-sized bed with luxuriously soft sheets and the climate control in both our room and the en suite bath. Our room was spotless. The three chairs and small tables were thoughtful touches that allowed us to read, use our computers, or enjoy a movie in comfort after a day of hiking.
Just thinking about the breakfasts makes my mouth water: fruit and yogurt, quiche, pastry, and sausage on the first morning; fruit, stuffed frenchtoast and bacon on the second. An assortment of hot drinks and hot or cold spring water were available throughout the day. And, I would be remiss if I did not mention Dan’s double chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, which could be reason enough to plan a visit to Afton Mountain Inn! Hosts, Orquida and Dan, were attentive and readily available to answer our questions and accommodate our requests. Their gentle dogs, Ozzie and Snowy, made an appearance each morning, and, although Snowy is a bit shy, Ozzie happily obliges anyone who wants to pet him.
We recommend Afton Mountain Inn to anyone who is looking for a peaceful, comfortable, and delicious get-away.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights on a cold February weekend. Even though the house is very old, it didn't feel drafty or old. In fact it was very warm and comfortable. The owners are very accomodating. They went the extra mile to not only make us feel at home, but also to make us feel safe during the pandemic. They are wonderful and fun to talk to! The breakfast was amazingly delicious and the fresh, hot coffee available as soon as I woke up was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the local restaurants, not far from the house. Also, it was a convenient location for skiing at Wintergreen. We hope to be back.

Dan & Orquida, our hosts, welcomed us at the door and showed us the facilities. Comfort and relaxation were the order of the day, and we luxuriated in the plush furnishings and so-real beautiful farmhouse. Delicious breakfasts were served fresh each day, and we had absolute freedom to enjoy the "common areas" of the house and grounds. It's better than lovely, and a real value for our wedding anniversary vacation. We visited PRE-VIRUS, so some questions below do not apply.
