I've been to Quimby several times now, and each time I wonder why I don't spend more time there! Gene and Lily are such gems of a host couple, you really feel like you are a welcome part of the Quimby family when you're there. Can't say enough good things about it. I hope to keep bringing my kids back for many years to come.
I arrived for Women's Weekend without a plan and by myself. I was immediately welcomed by the staff and other guests and, much to my surprise and delight, a few ladies strolled in that I knew. I spent the weekend meeting new people, strengthening my relationships with the ones I knew and getting outside my comfort zone. I highly recommend Quimby Country for Women's Weekend or a family getaway!
This was my second time visiting Quimby Country during high season. Gene and Lilly Devlin are friendly, helpful and eager to host your family for the week. The best way to describe our week is family summer camp. Expect to be transported back to a time when children played outside all day, when families sat down to eat meals together, when you got to know your neighbors and enjoyed sharing activities and camaraderie. Counselors lead activities everyday, many of which have no age boundaries. There are friendly competitions in family friendly events where people of all ages are encouraged to partake. High season offers all inclusive gourmet meals, boating, fishing, lake/water activities, tennis, volleyball, corn hole, hiking and so much more. One of the best things about this vacation is the beauty you see in everything around you: In the children’s laughter; the peace and serenity of sunrise and sunset; the gourmet food served (three meals daily); and all of nature around you. While there is internet, it is limited, no TV. To be honest, I didn’t miss it. I highly recommend Quimby Country and cannot wait to return next year!…
I can't say enough about how wonderful it was to spend a week at Quimby Country! Gene and Lilly are fantastic hosts and have created a really comfortable, family friendly environment. My 8 year-old Son was thrilled with the trip and commented on the last night how much he "really bonded" with the other kids. For an only child coming out of Covid times the experience was priceless. The food was great and the cabins well outfitted. The lakes (yes, there are two) are a perfect place to relax, unwind and take a tech break for the week. All in all a great experience! Can't wait to go back.
A group of 9 of us met at Quimby Country for 2 nights at the end of June 2021 for a time to reconnect, enjoy nature and get away from it all. We had a ball! We were there in the off-season (prior to July 2). Cabins either come with a small fridge or a kitchen (clearly stated in the descriptions), a bathroom/tub, a porch overlooking Forest Lake, and depending on the cabin, 1 or 2 bedrooms, and a small living room with woodstove (kindling, firewood, and matches provided). They have kayaks for your own use, but we brought ours. There are two lakes--Forest and Great Averill, separated by a short wooded trail. On Great Averill, there is a swimming area, more kayaks and canoes, a porta-potty and a building that can be used for activities and sitting on the porch. We caught a fantastic sunset and swam. There are miles of trails that interlock throughout their 1200 acres. We took a great stroll over to the sandy beach at the south end of Great Averill Lake, but didn't have time for more. We had a yummy and filling continental breakfast in the lodge each morning, served by hosts Lilly and Gene and their staff (all who are super friendly and outgoing). The lodge has a beautiful porch, and firepit for smores, along with an olden-times camp vibe--we gathered there when it was cold to laugh and reminisce. Restaurants nearby (within 10-20 min are April's Maple (yum), Chez Pidgeon, and Spa Restaurant...all great for yummy meals. During the season, QC has 3 meals included in price of lodging. It was such a wonderful experience to unplug and reconnect with old friends. Cannot wait to come back.…
Lilly and Gene are welcoming hosts on this sprawling family resort in the NEK (North East Kingdom of Vermont. It has the ability to be a summer camp for adults which is appealing to me. Hikes, fishing, swimming, campfire at night, quiet, loons, birdwatching, and weather that is ever changing. Loved how close it was to NH, and Canada. It didn't feel crowded, it felt like we were part of family there. Nooks and crannies to read, to explore. I can't wait to go back again. While there visit April's Maple for the best Creamees I've had in Vermont and Chez Pidgeon for a great family style meal.
The cabin was comfortable meeting our expectations. We prepared all our meals at our cabin using a grill provided by the lodge. The location of the lodge and cottages provides for a peaceful setting with a touch of the wild and the calling of the loons on Forest Lake. Kayaking through lily pads on the lake gave us opportunity to observe waterfowl and other wildlife. A hike up to the lookout rock presented us with some exercise and a view of the nearby lake of "Big Averill". We were there at the very beginning of their season. Many of the amenities were not available including dining with the exception of a continental breakfast which was very good. The bottom-line; there is plenty to do at Quimby Country or you can just sit back and relax. I should note there are plenty of activities for kids to include a building containing many games; ping pong, foosball, table shuffle board, shuffle board, cornhole and many others. Gene and Lily are great hosts and very helpful. We will return one day! Below there is the question, "Were hotel guests required to wear face masks in public areas?" The answer is "No". As long as you had the Covid Vaccine.…
My cabin was rustic and comfortable. Loved having a writing desk looking at the pond. Staff are welcoming and responsive. Covid reduced the food service understandably, which would be my only complaint (and not under their control).
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Quimby Country. Hospitality comes naturally to Lilly and Gene, they were always eager to please and went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. The buildings and grounds are clean, lovely and well maintained. Cottages are rustic in the best sense of the word. We spent five nights in September and almost wished we'd had rain so that we would have had to stay in our cottage with a cozy fire in the woodstove. Plenty of firewood provided. We took advantage of the canoes and bicycles freely provided. Loved the well-maintained and beautiful path through the woods a quarter mile to Big Averill Lake. Loons on both lakes serenaded us throughout our stay. No meals were available in the lodge dining room during our visit, but the dining room looked extremely inviting. We brought our own food and cooked all our own meals (some cottages have kitchens), and while we missed a few kitchen supplies, we were able to do everything we needed as far as cooking. Don't expect luxury, that's not what Quimby is about - but expect to unwind and have a simple life away from the noise and bustle.…
