Pros: Staff was helpful Clean rooms Cons: Rooms smelled so bad… actually everywhere in the hotel smelled bad You can hear your neighbours (bathroom every time of the day or the night and all conversations) and the vehicles outside (trash trucks, trucks, cars,…) The room wasn’t heated when we arrived. So we were freezing the first night. The food was less than average. Price is too expensive for what it is. We were there to visit friends and we were super disappointed by the hotel. We came all the way from Europe and the reviews of this hotel were so good that we had waited for a better service, especially with the price we paid per night. I don’t think we will go back to that hotel.
For many decades we stayed at Alta Lodge. Goldminer’s was regarded as a less desirable somewhat downscale alternative. But for this visit Alta Lodge was full. We did not intend to stay in the absurdly expensive Rustler or new Snowpine—fine for the investment bankers but not for us. We were thrilled with Goldminer’s. My room , 301, was easily the equivalent of the East wing at.Alta Lodge. Food was almost equivalent to Alta Lodge, perhaps because Goldminer’s hired the chef from Alta Lodge. Service was amazing—helpful and interested. Location is better than any lodge at Alta. Wr will return!
Overall, I had an exceptional time at Goldminer's Daughter Lodge. The rates were very competitive, the room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast and dinners were delicious & plentiful, and most of the employees were kind and helpful. I wish I could have given this stay 5 stars (it deserves it), but I must provide honest feedback about my grievances regarding EDDIE, the manager of this establishment. Although he remained professional throughout the interaction, he was uninterested in helping me with my blight of having an SUV stuck in 20 inches of fresh snow. His only solution was to tell me to "take a shovel and deal with it yourself. We're busy. If you don't finish, you can continue working on it after you get back from skiing at 4 PM." His response was very dismissive, rushed, and condescending. He didn't even extend the courtesy of asking someone from his team to help. After shoveling snow for 20 minutes, I see him sitting at reception, doing nothing. This is an absolutely UNACCEPTABLE attitude towards guests. However, as a saving grace, the other employees at Goldminer's Daughter Lodge were PHENOMENAL. Two different employees noticed me struggling to shovel snow and immediately got a shovel and helped me. If not for these kind folks, I would have missed my flight.…
GMD has been our go to for the past six years. Despite reduced staff in restaurant due to COVID, I want to mention how hard the young men and women work to serve. Several of them had returned from last year (Elizabeth, Berry and Cass). Luke, George and Thomas. Thank you for your kindness. We wish you all the best in your next season adventure!
Great location at a magnificent mountain. Family vibe is surviving C19. Best of Gold Miners is the Staff and the Dining. Could use some updating in furnishings and aesthetics but then again it’s part of the family charm. Shout out to George,Luke, and Berry in the Dining Room...Great service and great attitudes. Highly recommended
The Goldminer's Daughter Lodge is literally 30 yards from the ticket offices and ski lifts. There is a ski rental store attached to the hotel. The rooms are basic, but large and clean. Friendly staff people, free parking, and restaurants and bars available when you take a break.
Over 35 years have returned to GMD many times, always a great time until now. Used the massage for the first time and the therapist forged our bill, adding a hefty tip after we had left. We were lucky to notice this detail on our bill. Reporting this to the lodge and spa managers, they took a long time to respond and the spa manager could not have been lamer in her response and handling of this situation. In addition, the staff in the dining hall has suffered with some of the longest wait times for service failed to properly clean and wipe the tables. The virus had already started so it was doubly lame to not have the place clean. I have had wonderful times in the past and would have tried again had they handled this better. Warning - not worth it, plenty of other places far more worth the dollars. …
I love the GMD. Oiur ski group does an annual trip so I may be a little bias. Great value, close to Collins chair. Fine breakfast and dinner included. It is an old time ski feel. Friendly staff mostly young skiers. Friendly guests willing to share good nugs about their ski days and powder finds.
Rustic lodge in perfect ski in / ski out location. Pricey, but when you consider you get breakfast and dinner included it's a decent value. You can walk across parking lot to Peruvian Bar. They have a free shuttle service to Snowbird which is also very convenient. If you are at Alta to ski, this place has everything and is a good choice. If you are looking for gourmet meals and refined table service with a great wine list, this is not the place. They do need to spruce this place up a bit as it is getting very dated and tired in some ways.
The saloon on second floor is great spot for lunch. Great views and warm fireplaces, foozball and big TV to catch a few minutes of the game in between runs. Try the nachos and the Pizza for sure. The beer is always frosty!
