Detailed Reviews
This is my fourth year staying at this lodge during ski season. The staff, from the general manager to the staff that cleans the room, are THE BEST I've ever encountered and they are all so welcoming and go out of their way to make you feel like you are part of their family and not just another customer. The food is delicious and the amenities such as the jacuzzis and heated pool are so very relaxing. I also met many guests who have been returning to the Rustler for decades. I have a lot of catching up to do ..

We look forward to your racking up stays with us. Soon you'll be using two hands! It is an honor to hear praise like the sentiments you've chosen to share with us about the Rustler, particularly the top to bottom quality of the interactions you've had with our staff. Our culture of hospitality is very special, and our guests and their appreciation of all we do is a big part of that. Thank you for describing a little bit of the magic of this place. We look forward to your fifth year with us! Warmly, Sheridan Davis, Assistant Manager, Alta's Rustler Lodge

This was an outstanding experience! We came to ski a few days before christmas - my husband, 9 year old daughter, and I. The service was really exceptional. The hotel felt small and homey, but also luxurious. Everyone who works there is really working hard to please us. I was particularly impressed by the food. We had included breakfast and dinner every day and the selections were superb. There were also always interesting options on the menu. Each meal started with a really delicious soup that was perfect for the cold winter weather! The location is right next to the ski lift and it's easy to get on the towing line to get there. There's also an excellent spa and an outdoor swimming pool that's very heated, almost like a giant hot tub, which is really family friendly. The hotel room was large and highly functional, although perhaps needs updating. Overall I would highly recommend Rustler Lodge!

This ski hotel takes all the stress out of your ski trip so you can just enjoy the skiing. Ski in and out! Ski rental is in same hotel ! Expansive buffet breakfast and 4 course served dinner are included in the room price! Hot tub , heated outdoor pool and steam room are fabulous for apres ski. Snacks at 4 to tide you over to dinner.
Full service spa for massage is excellent .
It’s everything you need with a friendly non snooty homey vibe.Their motto is ski eat sleep repeat .
Easy 45 minute shuttle to SLC airport.
I’m now so spoiled that I am reluctant to ski anywhere else. Alta is also a great mountain with plenty of reliable snow.

We have been at the Rustler several times and ski a lot in Utah and Colorado so I can reliably report on what is undeniably the best ski lodging experience in existence .
Once one shows up ( easy shuttle ride from airport ) everything is looked after. Ski rental is in the building as is the outdoor hot tub, heated outdoor pool and the spa for massages.
Buffet breakfast daily and three course sit down dinner plus dessert is included in the price of lodging .
Ski in and ski out with ski locker
Rope tow at the base takes you to main lifts
The hotel has its own chairlift !
Hotel bar
Laundry
Library and games room
Friendly staff
Complementary snacks around 5
Extensive selection of skis for rental
Can bring your own wine for dinner, corking fee
We have stayed in Mountain View rooms and in lower level rooms . All good , as mostly one just sleeps in the rooms
Remember to book your dinner time before you come for the first night or 2.
Book your massage ahead too.
ALTA is a great mountain , ski only , and the Rustler makes it even better.
Can cross over to Snowbird at the top and ski there too.
Do yourself a favor and stay at the Rustler. It takes all the annoyance factor out of the ski trip so you can enjoy the skiing without the fuss factor.

OMG, a perfect ski trip. We were teens and adults in double occupancy rooms. Rustler makes a ski trip effortless. We grabbed a shuttle, luggage unpacked right beside the front desk, taken to our rooms. Ski lockers right beside the exterior door and literally ski from the exterior door out to the hill. Coming back, there's a dedicated chair to bring you back up to Rustler.
Breakfast/dinner is included and is high quality and lots of choices. Laid back bar and also healthy snacks (pot stickers, etc) at 4pm for an hour every day. Lower level heated pool and hot tub along with an on-site spa. Very compact resort, so you don't feel like you're walking everywhere.
Everyone Utah friendly. There's no opportunity for tipping, so consider donating to their holiday fund at checkout. Noon checkout too, which is nice!
Mountain tip for newcomers. You can go left or right on the rope tow to take you to the lifts. Go right if you want the best advanced skiing (Wildcat rarely has lines) AND can handle the uphill hike to get to the lifts first time. Go left if you want your heartbeat to stay calmer getting to the first lift. It still has plenty of expert runs. Alta is truly an expert mountain, although there are enough blues for others.

CosmacElf, we appreciate your thorough and highly complimentary Rustler review. Our goal is effortless elegance, and your description of your stay is so helpful. We're honored to receive such high praise. I appreciate your mountain tips, and might suggest that our beginner terrain is more vast than many folks realize, and is the natural mountain--not bombed or bulldozed. Next time you stay with us let's ski some hot laps on the beginner terrain together! With best wishes for your speedy return, Sheridan Davis, Manager, Alta's Rustler Lodge

My family and I (including two kids ages 10 and 12) just returned from the Rustler and can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed it. From the friendly staff checking us in, taking care of our bags, and serving staff in the restaurant to the super clean and cozy feel, it just felt like all details were covered. The food is top notch (we couldn’t get enough of the breads at breakfast!) During our 5 days we didn’t happen to see any other kids at the Rustler but I never felt out of place or concerned that my kids didn’t belong. The staff always asked them all about the runs they skied and were super engaging with them. We loved the ability to be right on the hill and take our own lift back up every afternoon. The jacuzzi was perfect post skiing! We stayed in a Wasatch room” on the 4th floor and for us it was perfect in proximity to the restaurant, pool, and same level as the ski lockers and ski exit. It had a king bed, pull out queen, and a cot. Finally, we are so appreciative of the covid safety put into place here. Vaccination requirements and masking during this latest surge not only made us feel safe but kept us healthy our whole trip. We are a family who loves adventure and exploring new places but we are afraid the Rustler may have spoiled us now for future ski trips should we go somewhere else!

My husband and I just returned from my son’s wedding being hosted at the Rustler’s Lodge in Alta Utah. Although the lodge is known for its winter lodging and hospitality to skiers, it was an exceptional experience for us last weekend. My new daughter in law and son chose this beautiful location because they loved the idea that the entire lodge and staff were there to make this past weekend the wedding of their dreams. The lodge did not disappoint them, any of their family or guests. Although the lodge is only open for private events during their off seasons they didn’t miss a beat making the weekend so very special. Everyone of their staff from management down to the waitstaff and housekeeping were so very pleasant and helpful. At check in we were greeted by a gentleman that helped with luggage and assisted my daughter and grandchildren to find their way down to the pool. We later found out this Jeff, the owner, and we’re deeply impressed by his hands on management style. Trying to keep up with the scheduled activities while enjoying their facilities was accomplished with the help and suggestions of everyone there. They provided free shuttles to the nearby Octoberfest that gave our guests the opportunity to stay busy during their free time. Other guests enjoyed hiking throughout their beautiful grounds taking in the breathtaking view and abundant wildflowers that were in full bloom.
Their food service was excellent and provided options that satisfied even the pickiest of eaters including our 6 year old grandson and 4 year old granddaughter.
I highly recommend this lodge to anyone who would like to host a private event located in the Salt Lake City region during their lovely “off ski season”.

We are so honored you and your family chose the Rustler for one of the most special events of life. Thank you for entrusting us to host your wedding weekend which was filled with love. When your gorgeous flowers and even more beautiful family and guests arrived, we were swept up into your celebration. We could not ask for more gracious, appreciative guests and Jeff was so pleased to be able to be of assistance in any way. His attentiveness to guests's needs is a model for us all. I do feel after witnessing your event that there is no more beautiful wedding venue in all of the Wasatch than Alta's Rustler Lodge. It is so special to have all of your guests under one roof for a weekend celebration with exclusive access to our entire facility. I think it is the best of all worlds--a chance for all the guests and family to connect during your hosted events while also enjoying their own rooms and personal time to soak in the beauty of the wildflowers here in Little Cottonwood Canyon, as well as soak in our heated pool! We appreciate the opportunity to host our first formal wedding in over a decade! Thank you for your trust. I truly think your wedding weekend was a triumph. The Rustler is my happy place! My family and I have visited for twenty-five consecutive years, and it has never gotten old. Each staff member, from those who light the fires and clear away the “Apres Ski” dishes to the general managers, does their utmost to make every guest feel as comfortable as possible. The guest rooms and public areas could not be cleaner (pre-pandemic as well as during COVID-19), the food is superb and plentiful, and the overall atmosphere is one of fun and relaxation. The ski in/ski out location can’t be beat, and the ride to and from the airport is quick. In short — Alta’s Rustler Lodge — its facilities, its staff, its location — is a bit of heaven on earth!

We had a wonderful four day visit to the Rustler Lodge - very lucky to have early season snow. So many great things about the lodge: delicious and varied food (merlot ice cream!), happy hours with fondue and oysters, welcoming staff, beautiful outdoor hot tub and pool. It was perfect for our group of 12. The Rustler is the best lodge in the valley - good value for the high price you pay. Our room had a nice view - basic but had all of the amenities we needed and daily housekeeping.

Going to the Rustler feels like "going home." The team knows your name, makes you feel comfortable, is attentive to your needs- you feel like you are just taken care of and watched after! In addition, the food is fabulous, the ski shop a huge asset, and the pool and jacuzzi (and bar!) a great way to end the day. Alta is definitely a skiers mountain. It is actually a skiers only mountain. But we are connected to Snowbird which does allow snowboarding and skiing. You can cross-country ski in Alta and snowshoe if interested. The closest place for tubing would be up by Park City, Utah. We would love to welcome you to Alta and the Rustler Lodge! If you are looking for a variety of things to do such as listed above, shopping, snowmobiling etc. Park City might be the location for you! If you would like to discuss more please reach out, we would love to talk with you more on the phone 801-742-4200. Thank you!
