Stayed in the haunted room #525! Awesome
I was vacationing in Austin, Texas and decided to try the Driskill hotel based on price, location, and it's historical lore. The check-in process was smooth, staff were attentive and polite, and gave me a free beer! When I originally booked my room I decided I wanted to stay in the historical wing of the hotel based on the room photos and the beautiful mosaics in the bathrooms. Now I did not request the haunted room, in fact quite the opposite, and to my surprise I got room #525! At first I was a bit shocked and even had trouble falling asleep, but in the end this helped me fall into a deep sleep from the exhausting of keeping my eyes open for as long as possible. Haha! Everything was fine and the breakfast at the cafe downstairs was delicious. I highly recommend the Driskill and if you're lucky - the haunted room!
Hi there! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! I'm so happy to hear that you had a wonderful stay at The Driskill, and everything was smooth from the check-in process to the delicious breakfast in our 1886 Cafe & Bakery. The hotel does have many an urban legend, but I'm glad it ultimately led to a restful night sleep! I hope we'll become your home away from home anytime you're in Austin!

    Enjoyed Our Stay!!
We stayed at the Driskill from 1/14 thru 1/17/21. Our room on the tower side (#401) was spacious, comfortable, and reasonably priced. The heater wasn't working the first night, so we called downstairs the next morning and an engineer arrived almost immediately to fix the problem. The assistant Front Office Manager, Richard Garcia, was very helpful and accommodating, as well as anyone else working the front desk. Anything we needed (extra coffee pods, shower cap, makeup remover wipes) were brought up to the room as soon as we called. There is light housekeeping service after three days with a full cleaning after five, but that was ok with us. You could leave your trash outside the door and it seemed like it was almost immediately picked up and you never knew anybody was there. Extra towels were available upon request. The hotel was very clean and inviting. Bar drinks and food were tasty. The 1886 Menu was takeout only and limited, but the selections were good. The only ding is we didn't know much about what was going on since all written information had been removed from the room, I guess due to covid. We had to ask a lot of questions and were not told upon check-in about the High Tea on Saturdays, which we would have loved to attend, so we missed it. :(

    Welcoming & Historic
Just had a wonderful stay at this historic hotel. The hotel closed for a period of time during the coronavirus crisis and just recently re-opened. Our city view room was very nice and we felt they had really taken the time to make sure it was clean and disinfected. The staff at the front desk and in the breakfast Café were very welcoming and friendly. I am glad we got to experience this hotel’s charm during this slower time when visitors are just starting to return, but also can’t wait to come back again when it is bustling. Sadly, no sightings of the historic ghosts that are said to occasionally haunt the hotel. But ask the concierge for the written description of the ghosts. It is a worthwhile and interesting read.

The Driskill is in a good location and the history of the hotel is interesting but I was disappointed in the quality of the room. The carpet seemed dirty and the bathroom was kind of dumpy....hasn't been updated in a while. My largest complaint was the bed was squeaky and the bedding was some sort of polyester that was just gross. Staff was great.

The Driskill had a great vide and the history of the property was preserved while making it a functional place to stay and have a conference. The staff were friendly and they even offered a complimentary Lone Star beer at check-in. I would recommend staying here if you find yourself in Austin.

The staff is extremely well-trained and customer service oriented. We received great service in the bar on the night of a Texas home game when the bar was extremely crowded. Breakfast is wonderful. The Driskill is in a great location for walking to Sixth Street music venues and bars. An added bonus was the Pecan Festival occurring outside the door a few steps away. Great weekend getaway!

Excellent customer service from the moment of check in until departure. Best bed I have ever slept in! A great location, but everything you need is in the hotel. Lots of history but up to date amenities as well.

My husband and I came to Austin just to stay at this hotel. It is hands down one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. It was on my list of haunted hotels to visit and it did not disappoint. Not only is all of the staff attentive, friendly and helpful but the room we had was so pretty and cozy. When we checked in, the front desk attendant gave us free beer so that was really nice. The bed was super comfy. We stayed on the 4th floor and had a few things happen we couldn't explain such as a pocket of cigar smoke that came and went really fast. We later learned on our ghost tour that guests often report the cigar smell as Jesse Driskill, the owner, was a smoker. I could go on about the lovely things because there were many things I loved about The Driskill, especially the breakfast. If I had to say one con about the hotel is that valet parking is expensive. Otherwise, The Driskill is the prettiest place in Austin.

We have wanted to stay at The Driskill for a while now and decided to finally splurge. The hotel has the charm of an older but still upscale hotel. We love the decor, rich history and excitement of possible ghost sitings:) That said, there is little storage (not bad for a quick trip), but the main negative are the add on fees. There was a $25 per day destination fee that appeared to offer no benefits and a $55 per day valet and all the taxes on top of those two fees so you are really looking at about $100 over the nightly rate if you have a vehicle. Given the high prices already this adds up quickly. All in all, we loved our stay and had a great time. We are glad we had the opportunity to enjoy this lovely property, however likely a once and checked off the list for us.
