The Driskill stands as a historic treasure in Austin, celebrated for its grand architecture and vibrant live music scene, though noise can sometimes mar the experience. Its prime location is frequently praised, offering easy access to downtown attractions. While the hotel's cleanliness and service typically receive high marks, with housekeeping noted for their diligence, some guests have reported less-than-stellar interactions with the front desk. Opinions on rooms vary, with their historic appeal often overshadowed by size and decor concerns. Despite commendable amenities, the value proposition is a point of contention among guests.

We stayed at the Driskill from 1/14 thru 1/17/21. Our room on the tower side (#401) was spacious, comfortable, and reasonably priced. The heater wasn't working the first night, so we called downstairs the next morning and an engineer arrived almost immediately to fix the problem. The assistant Front Office Manager, Richard Garcia, was very helpful and accommodating, as well as anyone else working the front desk. Anything we needed (extra coffee pods, shower cap, makeup remover wipes) were brought up to the room as soon as we called. There is light housekeeping service after three days with a full cleaning after five, but that was ok with us. You could leave your trash outside the door and it seemed like it was almost immediately picked up and you never knew anybody was there. Extra towels were available upon request. The hotel was very clean and inviting. Bar drinks and food were tasty. The 1886 Menu was takeout only and limited, but the selections were good. The only ding is we didn't know much about what was going on since all written information had been removed from the room, I guess due to covid. We had to ask a lot of questions and were not told upon check-in about the High Tea on Saturdays, which we would have loved to attend, so we missed it. :(

Just had a wonderful stay at this historic hotel. The hotel closed for a period of time during the coronavirus crisis and just recently re-opened. Our city view room was very nice and we felt they had really taken the time to make sure it was clean and disinfected. The staff at the front desk and in the breakfast Café were very welcoming and friendly. I am glad we got to experience this hotel’s charm during this slower time when visitors are just starting to return, but also can’t wait to come back again when it is bustling.

Sadly, no sightings of the historic ghosts that are said to occasionally haunt the hotel. But ask the concierge for the written description of the ghosts. It is a worthwhile and interesting read.

The Driskill- first of all you have to keep in mind is an historic hotel, so it will have a different look, and not everything will be perfect, there might be some dents here or there, but that is fine, because what it does have is character from a gone by era. The lobby and mezzanine with the wood and the fancy pillars and extravagant stain glass ceilings are wonderful.

My room while not big was clean and had high ceilings and there were a lot of nice touches and historically appointed. The bed was so nice that it was unbelievable. The view out my window was horrible, because it was of the old building and alley next door, but they had big drapes so I did not have to look at that.

As part of my weekend stay was a brunch which was my choice of items from the menu and that was very good, and the service was great.

One draw back was the parking situation, because there was none. They only recommend pay parking nearby which was $24/day with no in and out privileges. The desk was nice enough to let me know that on the street nearby was $2/hour parking that ended at 6PM and was free on the weekends, and that worked for me, as it was late afternoon on Friday.

The gym I thought was great, very clean, great modern equipment and also had dumbbells and more!

The area because of the pandemic was not the happening spot I hear that it usually is, so hopefully that will return soon. But the hotel is doing a nice job, and they are doing their part regarding trying to be responsible wearing masks and asking for social distancing.

The good part is that our room was very large, very clean, well serviced, dark at night and no noise from the street. The negative is that our room was not in the old hotel but in the adjoining annex so the floors don’t match up and you have to lug your suitcase up a flight of stairs to get to rooms in the annex if no one tells you how to take two different elevators to access. The thud, thud, thud, of people dragging their suitcase down the stairs in the mornings to check out was very jarring. Our view from the windows was the wall of an adjoining building and AC units, so we kept the curtains closed most of the time. My advice is to only visit the Driskill for lunch or a drink in the bar and enjoy the decor but save your money by staying elsewhere.

First, let me begin with saying this hotel is beautiful. It is super cool with all of the history that it carries. We booked the cattle barons suite and it was beautiful. However, it’s not that there’s bad service at this hotel - there is NO service at this hotel. We called the front desk several times and we actually had to go to the Front desk to even request some glasses that we needed in our room. There is no cleaning service, no replenishing service; and the hotel is basically vacant of any staff. I understand they’re trying to be Covid friendly but I think they’ve taken it too far by cutting back on staff, and if you’re staying for more than two days you will not have any extra toilet paper, towels, etc.Pretty pricey hotel to have no service if you ask me. The location is perfect and the hotel is gorgeous. You decide...

As we are in Austin on our driving tour of Texas we were advised by a tour guide to go into this hotel as it has a certain reputation as THE hotel in Austin......, having had dinner on 6th street I insisted that we went in, as good travel managers should, to check it out and have the coffee and dessert we hadn’t had.
To say the service was dreadful would be over doing it, it was really poor, we went into the lounge/bar on the upper level and sat on a low table. We waited, periodically trying to attract attention, for 35 minutes- eventually a lounge waitress started to clear the table next to us, noticed me waving but carried on clearing until she was good and ready, I asked for a coffee and did they have a menu as I’d like a dessert - she countered that with a verbal list, one of which was Creme Brûlée, not something that can be got very wrong! I was so wrong! She took my credit card then I waited another 10 minutes before she brought me a glass large cup with black coffee, no offer of milk/cream or sugar, and no pudding, this came after another few minutes. When the coffee was brought I asked for some milk which was eventually brought by another lady who plonked it on the table and literally threw a small napkin at it! It was so bad we actually laughed! Then the Creme Brûlée arrived, it looked ok, nice caramel top which was warmish, however when I tasted it, instead of a lovely vanilla flavour there was a really strong cinnamon flavour, which I can still taste, over an hour later! Sorry guys, you aren’t getting that area right!!

The hotel appears to be charging near normal rates but provides minimal services. There is no food and no bar for most of the week. It took 20 minutes for the valet to get our car at checkout. Getting towels and extra toilet paper took multiple phone calls, because only one person is working and can’t do it all. To a traveler, it looks like the hotel has drastically cut staff and still wants customers to pay the same rates.

Expected a bit more for this price level. A room at Hampton Inn has less grandeur but more amenities at 1/4 of the cost. No microwave in the room. Room service had neglected to replace the coffee filter in the coffee maker after the previous guest. Mini bar was empty. Had special ordered chocolate covered strawberries but was greeted by a plate of crumbly fruit filled biscuits instead. Long cafeteria style waiting line for brunch with people coming in off the street.

They seem to be using a lot of excuses for Covid. Price of the hotel rooms are the same yet they are not providing housekeeping services. If we’re not paying for housekeeping then they should reduce the rate of the room if we’re doing this ourselves or living in unclean conditions. They were dreadfully understaffed, the front desk staff was not helpful nor friendly. The best thing about the hotel is the location and the bar

Hi there! Where the original side of The Driskill opened in 1886, the tower side of the hotel was completed around 1930. The guest rooms on the tower side of the hotel tend to be more uniform than the 'historic' side, both sides are considered historic.

There’s staircase that leads up to the roof. Not sure what it was or if it was just all the girly-ness of a bunch of girls but that staircase was freaky and chilly.

I was there in early December 2021 and since this was Texas the answer is no you cannot trust that the guests are vaccinated. I attended a wedding and can assure you many of those guests at the wedding but not necessarily staying at the hotel were NOT vaccinated.

No and prices are high whether you use the hotel or all around. There are some good parking apps that can help you find decent prices, but they might not be close.
