I have been traveling to Austin on the weekends for 20 years now and this is easily the best overall value while still being luxury hotel down here. The pool combines a family friendly atmosphere while still appealing to singles and groups that want to have some drinks with a view and great sun all day. Nothing about this hotel is overpriced even for being right downtown on Congress an 2nd. The hotel bar and restaurants are top notch - my favorite is the cornbread at the Star and dip trio at the pool with the hot dog (only $8) There are 24 executive suites here and I highly recommend booking one (or upgrading if you are Bonvoy elite which they do a tremendous job recognizing. The gym is clean and spacious with great variety and views. I feel very safe here with Covid protocols and can't wait to stay again!

My trip to Austin didn’t initially have the JW Marriott in my plans. It was rated a Category 6, as was the Element, about 6 blocks away. After some issues at the Element, we switched hotels. And I couldn’t have been happier. The staff was super friendly. We were greeted kindly as we were checking in and waited in line. We checked in early and the lady at the desk asked us to come back after 3 to check on an upgrade to our room. We did so and ended up with a very nice corner room with great views in two directions. The room accommodations were great. There are also two very nice bars in the hotel. One is the Corner bar/restaurant on the first floor. The Edge bar on the 5th level had live music on Saturday night. We did not have a reservation but the hostess kindly found a table for us to sit and enjoy the music and a couple drinks. I highly recommend this hotel. I do have titanium elite status just for reference in regards to the room upgrade option. We were also given a coupon for a free appetizer at the corner bar and a coupons or Starbucks as well. Thank you for the great visit.

So we were very excited to stay at this hotel but once we got there our excitement went out the window. For 1 the lobby always has a horrible smell and isnt welcoming, maybe to try to get peoples masks on, IDK? The Lobby is quite beautiful and the fireplace is definitely cozy but we were not able to get a spot near it the entire stay since it was always packed. The rooms are basic, nothing fancy nothing really to note about it, beds were hard, pillows were too soft, and the blankets kept coming untucked so feet were cold. Also the rooftop bar would not let us in because you need reservations despite there being plenty of seating, maybe they should put that on the signage in the elevators. So i gave it a 3 because the lobby smelled, rooms are basic, and staff are robots. I would highly suggest the Kimpton or Fairmont, enjoyed our stays much better at both of these properties.

In town for a few days - stopped here because the restaurant has a great outside patio area. Had to pester the hostess to seat us when there were at least 4 or 5 tables outside with no one sitting at them but needed bussing. She finally went out and cleaned the tables. That is why only 4 stars. Our waitress Tamara was excellent. She was very attentive and friendly. We just had the Burnt Ends and some drinks. The Burnt ends were outstanding.

Pros: Shower pressure and shower size Fast elevators On-site parking Very quiet hotel Cons- A very lukewarm welcome upon checking-in Requested a mini fridge on THREE separate occasions. Twice before checking in. Once when we checked in. We were assured that the room would have one each time. Never got one. Which brings me to my next con... We spent over $200 on our dinner that night and when we returned to the hotel, we still did not have a mini fridge. So we had to ask concierge to store our leftovers. When we were leaving there was a major miscommunication about the complimentary self-parking for Texans which caused us to forget to ask for our leftovers from the concierge. If we had had a mini fridge in our room that wouldn’t have happened!! Checking-out process was a nightmare. Dealt with an unfriendly manager. Basically calling us liars about the Texas state resident booking. I know for a FACT that I booked the room at that rate and to get the free self-parking. If I didn’t, I would have sprung for the extra $5 for valet. Eventually the manager took the $49 parking charge off. You need to work on making your policies MUCH clearer on your website and when training your staff. Because we were again, ASSURED that we wouldn’t have to pay for self-parking. I asked for a lake view. We were given a construction filled view with apartments in front of us instead. We were staying at this massively overpriced hotel to celebrate our 11 year wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday. No one could care less about either thing. There was no note, no complimentary wine/champagne, candies, NOTHING in our room. Again, we never even heard the words “Happy Birthday/Happy Anniversary.” YET, I have seen reviews about this hotel doing those things for their other guests. Your lack of consistency with your guests is pretty disappointing to say the least. We stayed at the Fairmont Inn for my birthday in March and we were treated like royalty. They went above and beyond. Not at the JW Marriott. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Too hard. The comforter is VERY hot. The sheets and comforter are made from scratchy material. The tv kept flickering in and out. Made watching it very annoying. Limited room service menu. Basically two options for breakfast. We ended up getting breakfast from a restaurant nearby. Too bad because the JW Marriott could have made an extra $60 from us had we been able to order breakfast from them. No hot tub at this hotel. No robes and slippers. Summary: As you can tell we are sadly disappointed in our stay at this hotel. Considering the two special occasions we were celebrating, the $300 price tag, and the atrocious year 2020 has been, we expected more from this little staycation. I can’t say we would ever return. In fact, we already booked a room for NYE at The Hyatt Regency.
