Hotel Magdalena stands out for its stylish charm and comfortable rooms, though a few guests noted missing basic features. The staff's warm and professional service is widely commended, despite occasional hiccups at check-in.
While the hotel's amenities, including a beautiful pool and distinctive room décor near bustling shopping and dining, receive applause, some visitors mention the lack of certain conveniences and find the layout perplexing. The cleanliness is exceptional, and the retro, chic atmosphere with a 70s twist is a highlight, complemented by the hotel's desirable location among music and dining venues.

Detailed Reviews
We spent 5 nights recently and enjoyed everything about the property. We stayed in the Spring Suite (do it for the screened porch alone!), dined and drank on the property several times, and got a lot of use out of the pool. The hotel is convenient to all that South Congress has to offer and the staff were, for the most part, wonderful (you know, you always get one or two grumpies wherever you go, don't let it get you down!)!!!
Our favorite part was the pool. The buildings are situated to create a micro climate by diverting the breeze through the center of the property. Even on a day that the heat index hit 111 degrees, we were comfortable in the shade of the trees and the buildings.
Do:
Spring Suite
Onion Dip
Happy Hour Margaritas
Pool
Don't:
Get upset when a few things don't go your way - the entire hospitality industry is understaffed right now - give everyone a break!
A special thanks to everyone who brought us drinks, chatted with us at our table, cleaned our room, checked us in, checked us out, etc etc.
Great work all around everyone! Can't wait to visit again! xo

Hotel Magdalena is a wonderful boutique hotel located in the heart of South Congress. The grounds are compact but lovely. There is a great restaurant on site which we only ate breakfast at the hotel. We had coffee and pastries that were amazing every morning. We also ate the menu breakfast in the restaurant, which was tasty and beautifully plated.
The room had a different layout than most hotels but worked very well for my husband and me. A compact toilet and shower area and a awesome size sink, mirror and counter area outside the bathroom. At first the cement floors were a bit different but after day one I totally appreicated no nasty, stinky hotel carpet. The soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were the hotel's blend and were a pleasing scent and good quality.
The staff made it very clear they were there to assist you, answer any questions and make your stay the best it could possibly be. The valet guys were always so kind and polite. It was incredibly easy to call for the car just as we were leaving the room and it was always there ready and waiting for us.
But the location of this hotel is something that can not be beat. Hotel Magdalena was well located for anything you would want to do on S. Congress. Everything is within walking distance. The restaurants, the shops, or the music clubs (Continental Club and C'Boys) and two of the best ice cream shops in Austin. We never ventured to the pool because our stay was in January, and it was a bit chilly to think about going for a swim. If we return to Austin again, we will definitely stay at Hotel Magdalena.

Hotel Magdalena is a cool new hotel with a funky vibe in a great location for exploring Austin and being right in the middle of the vibrant South Congress St. My stay was during COVID and the protocols in place felt very safe. The room was extremely clean and I appreciated housekeeping only coming in to my room upon request.
All of the staff at the hotel were fabulous. So helpful, kind and welcoming. The Summer House is delicious and it was nice to be able to eat outside and distanced from all other guests.
I have had a few stays at this hotel during visits to Austin and I recommend a porch studio - they seem to have a little more privacy than some of the other rooms. The way the windows are laid out does not leave much opportunity to keep the shades open.
Overall, it is a great hotel with a cool and modern vibe in an awesome location.

What a horrible experience!!! Currently on our second night of a three-night stay and just about everything falls shorts. The KEY CARD situation needs immediate attention, we have been locked out of our room three separate times, and mind you every time the staff replaced the card. So without having a card that works that also means you have no access to move floors via elevator. So you would think stairs right? well no that is not an option because the stairs don't go to the lobby. Have no clue how this place ever paced an inspection by the fire department.
Secondly the staff, rude as all hell. They sell this place as dog friendly, don't believe that for a second. Was in the common area letting my 5-pound dog relieve itself and some young lady rudely told us to get off the property so he could relieve himself because there was a private event. I understood her but there was no event going on currently and the funny part of it all was I was taking part in the event. I think the entire staff needs retraining on how to approach their guest.
In summary, I would avoid this place. Between the staff and issues with basic items, it is not worth the $$$.

Hi David G, I am so sorry to hear you did not enjoy your time here with us! Our RFID cards from time to time can become deactivated if placed near a cellphone. It sounds like we could have communicated this more clearly to you as well as directing you towards our stairs just adjacent to our pool bar. We have a great natural grass event lawn that guests are welcome to use to relax or let their dogs roam a bit given that there is not an event going on. I am sorry to hear that our event this last weekend impeded your use of this space! I will be sure to check in with our staff to ensure we are communicating this in a thoughtful and clear manner for our guests. I would love the opportunity to speak with you more about your experience. If you have a moment, please send me an email at caitlyn.harned@hotelmagdalena.com so that we may set up a time to chat! Thank you so much - Caitlyn Harned Director of Rooms

No irons or ironing board in the room, rooms are not regularly kept and had to repeatedly ask for towels, toilet paper, and our garbage to be emptied. There is no price list for the minibar and they don’t include a breakdown on the final charges so you can never be sure what you paid for. Poor lighting in the room, food and alcohol is overpriced and poor quality (which says a lot when you live in NYC and are used to overpaying).

We just held a 2-day, overnight offsite for our leadership team, and Hotel Magdalena was an ideal location. The meeting room was ideal to make us able to be productive all day, but also not feel trapped in a boring conference room. In the evening, we utilized the lawn for a cocktail party and lawn games, which was the perfect casual way for the team to get to better know one another. Service was impecable, the food was delicious, and the rooms were very comfortable and quiet. I would highly recommned Hotel Magdalena for any stay, especially if you want to be in one of the best areas of Austin.

First off the Hotel looks nice and in a good location, but don’t be fooled. If you don’t want wifi or hot water then it’s an okay place to stay. I stayed here for three days and wished I didnt. I tried working with the staff on fixing the solution. The first day they said “our guest prefer lukewarm water not hot” then the next day sent hot water to my room thinking I wanted tea. After that I finally got the front desk into the room and they agreed there wasn’t hot water, but all I got was a sorry. The wifi was dropping in and out and the front desk just said yea that happens, sorry. Bathroom is small and sink is in the room. Confusing layout and one elevator. When you spend $400 a night at least you should hope for some Luxury.

Centrally located and very quiet with superb bed and bedding. There were a few things missing from the room that made it not a completely convenient and less than luxurious. First, the lighting was lacking both in the room and the passage ways to get to the room. It was a little off-putting outdoors in the evening to be walking down dark passageways to get to the elevator to the tower furthest from the entryway. In the room, the sitting area had no reading lamp or lighting of any kind, save what was coming from the mini-bar. There were no hand towel bars or rings around the vanity nor was there a trash container around the vanity. Women create trash when getting dressed and making up their faces! Towels need to hang in order to dry!

mmekaiser, Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your recent experience with us. I appreciate your kind words, but appreciate your constructive feedback even more. Safety and Security our one of our biggest priorities we have at Hotel Magdalena, so the lighting concerns are being looked into immediately so we can ensure all of our guests feel comfortable. Regarding your recommendation for towel bars, and a trash container are very helpful and will be shared with our design and engineering team. Again, I truly appreciate your feedback and am confident we will make improvements in these areas. I do hope you will give us another opportunity the next time you're in Austin. Kindly, David

Hotel Magdalena Austin has one of the very best Pool Pass options around.
Right in the heart of the uber popular South Congress district. Cool off Sunday thru Thursday from 3-10 PM. They have the adjacent Magdalena Bar that serves up amazing Cocktails and snacks with impeccable service. The ground are so lush, you would never know you're steps away from the bustling South Congress Avenue.
They provide loungers and towel service, and you can reserve for small groups as well. They have full sun and shady places to relax.

Well I think the Magdalena has potential. They didn't quite nail the vibe they were going for of a Texas lakehouse thing. I can see how they are trying for that but its a bit too sterile to have really achieved it. Its clean. The staff are helpful. The pool area is pretty with some uniqueness. Small but well appointed rooms. Worst thing is no free parking which they say is available online. It is not. Parking in a garage is 38.00 a nite. Parking on the street is dicey. We did and were rewarded with being keyed.Had to park quite far away. Overall this hotel lacks charm. I enjoyed my time there but not sure I'd go back.
