Warm elegance is not an easy thing to accomplish. Many new hotels focus entirely too much on one or the other and spoil the effect. It is a fine line. But at this unique hotel you find a perfection of casual taste that is rare. And you notice it from the moment you pull up to the entrance doors, tall and darkly sleek, greeted by smiling car valets, and make your way to the front desk, which is attended to by a helpful and courteous staff. On my visit, the bar area and lounge were vibrantly (but not too loudly) alive with chatter and laughter. A beautiful staircase was lit with a soft golden light and the elevators were sumptuously paneled. Upstairs, my room on the 6th floor was chic and modern without making a fuss about being either. I tip my hat to designer Kelly Wearstler: the style is cool, understated, casual, easy, and lacking nothing in comfort. The bed was extraordinarily welcoming and made up with butter-soft linens. The bathroom was spotless and luxurious- with Aesop products and thick robes awaiting. Technology was up to date and incredibly at your very fingertips- charming in a room otherwise designed to evoke a calm modesty about its advancements. All in all, it has a special touch that lifts it above other accommodations in the area, having the feeling of a good friend welcoming you in with a shining glass of scotch, and without having to ask for it to be made a double. Given the chance, I easily recommend staying at the Austin Proper Hotel. I know I will again.

Staying at the Austin Proper Hotel is nothing short of fantastic. The organization has gone to great lengths to take every opportunity to please guests' senses. The variation and palate of materials in each space are visually appealing and, while diverse from room to room, well selected and placed to work in unison in addition to providing an opportunity to enjoy the textures through touch.
Staff are very considerate and welcoming at every opportunity.
The room we stayed in was very comfortable, quiet, and quite beautiful.
Highly recommended!

I stayed here with a friend and really enjoyed the space. Anne helped check us in, and she and the rest of the staff were courteous throughout our stay. Our room was a little small but beautifully designed. The bathroom was the most luxurious feature, with a huge shower equipped with the finest Aesop products. While it was nice to hang out in the room, I wish that their TV service had more options for viewing. Visiting the Austin Proper for my second time. Top Notch service from the moment you check in to check out with COVID-19 procedures throughout the hotel that will make you feel safe and offer peace of mind such as stickers on your room door confirming room has been sanitized. All staff wear mask at all times and amenities have limited capacity as to ensure social distancing. I got to spend time at the beautiful pool and try La Piscina which had great Margaritas and fresh guacamole & queso fundido. Another great stay at Austin Proper! Can't wait to return for my third stay.

Austin Proper Hotel is absolutely beautiful and the perfect place to stay for a trip to Austin. They’re also dog friendly and we were able to bring our two beagles with us. You had to make reservations for the pool and they cleaned the space after each pool reservation block. There is hand sanitizer, masks, and social distancing guidelines posted throughout the hotel. It was such a great time and we felt so refreshed after spending a few days at Austin Proper. I would highly recommend!

Front desk and housekeeping need to get their act together. My routine was to ask front desk to have room serviced when I left each morning, usually around 10 AM. Several times when I returned several hours later the room was not made up. Upon calling the front desk the very first thing I was asked was if my do not disturb sign out. It was never left out. The next thing I was told was that the room was on a do not disturb list. (I think it is probable that housekeeping went by the room early in the day and marked rooms with a do not disturb sign as do not disturb for the rest of the day, and never rechecked.) Then I’d ask if it could be serviced right away and was NEVER told graciously that it would be taken care of. After the second time of this I began taking a picture of my door after I’d removed the sign. One afternoon I called about 3:30 as I I was heading back to the hotel and wanted to make sure it had been done. Went through the same insulting questions, and was told the housekeeping would put it on the list and it would be done within a few hours. I asked that it be done right away, and was put on hold, then disconnected. I called back again and was it on hold for over 5 minutes. By that time I was back at the hotel and went to front desk. Went through the SAME questions again. Showed my pic of the door. Was told they were super busy as it was a sold out weekend. Not once was there any type of sincere apology or sign of regret that the service had been bad. A simple “We are so sorry and will do our best to help” would have gone a long way.
I had recommended this place to good friends who travel a lot. Their experience was the same as mine. I was very embarrassed I had suggested this hotel. The hotel likes to say they are the best hotel in Austin. The only thing they are best in is the beautiful decor and good restaurants (which are not run by the hotel). These two things are why I gave 2 star instead of 1.
I will not recommend this hotel again.

This boutique hotel is just BEAUTIFUL ALL AROUND!! The decor throughout the property is stunning, from the moment you walk in the door until you reach your guestroom. I just LOVED the decor throughout, the bar, restaurant, and guestrooms but it is really in the details becuase even the bathrooms were just lovely. My room had floor to ceiling windows that lit up the entire room, the bed was extremely comfortable and the curtains were all controlled with the push of a button. The bathroom amenities were delightful & invigorating with great lighting which is so important to us ladies. We experienced the restaurant which was a culinary delight and the drinks in the rooftop pool bar were dangerously delicious. All of the staff was very accommodating & they offer a great location due to its walkability to shops, restaurants and more. A must experience whether you are on business or a girls trip! Can't wait to return.

This hotel is quite phenomenal in most ways, the vibe is cool, the design is beautiful, the location is central, but sadly 3/4’s of all rooms are staring at walls with nothing to look at. There was a lot of staff, but clearly untrained and lacked professionalism. What could be an amazing design hotel has been taken a side road of being trendy, which is forcing them to sacrifice quality. Sadly most trendy people can’t afford the rooms, and solely attend the lobby bar/restaurant. The hotel is well appointed, well designed, well executed, but staring at a wall and being treated like I am lucky to be there, doesn't feel great; an all too common theme with a younger staff. The pool was standing room only for the weekend we were there, the spa had no availability during out stay, and the lobby bar was constantly so crowded we could not utilize. But the location was great, the quality was great, the design was beautiful, but it lacked for $600 per night. I sincerely hope

If you want to hang with the cool kids in Austin then this is THE place to go. The bars and restaurants here are full of well heeled, young movers and shakers, the drinks are good, restaurants tasty and the pool lively. The location is very good, some rooms have river views, you can easily walk to the all of the downtown attractions but are far enough away to have a quiet nights sleep. The decor is fun and well done. Staff is mostly good, somewhat young with some glitches but seems like everywhere is like that these days. For me, at the price we paid, the rooms are too small. We had a standard king room with a peekaboo river view on the 6th floor. Closet is an 18 inch wide space in the TV armoire. No where to put a suitcase, etc. Bathroom has only one sink and the toilet is not in it's own room. Shower is large and bathroom door was heavy and quiet. Lighting/drapes are all on an automated system that had well labeled switches and was easy to use which was nice. Hallway and adjacent room noise was OK, seems like it could be better in a new hotel like this. Street noise was good except a delivery truck with back up beeping. I am Marriott platinum and I usually get free breakfast but here I was not offered anything. I probably could have pushed on that but I just wanted to get to my room and was too busy to look into it later. Bottom line, I would stay here for $100 more than the JW or the Fairmont, would probably pick the ZAZA at the same price and would pick the Four Seasons for $100 more than AP. You can always come hang at the bar if you can find a seat. There is a special bar for hotels guests only with a quieter vibe but we did not have time to check that out.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in a beautifully appointed balcony king room in early January 2020, and we LOVED Austin Proper. The bed is heavenly and the blackout shades also made for a wonderful night sleep. The hotel location is perfect - within easy walking distance of beautiful Town Lake's walking trail and many fun downtown restaurants and bars. However, we ended up eating at hotel's restaurant twice - The Peacock, because the mediterranean food, the decor, and the drinks were all superb. The front desk staff was super friendly, especially Louie and Rodrigo, and the valet staff (Stephanie & Taylor) always remembered our name. The general manager, Cristiano, also went out of his way to make us feel special. We will stay there again! Austin luxury at it's unique finest!
