Let me start with a positive – that being the courtesy and professionalism of the front desk personnel I dealt with. The Austin W Hotel has an ultra-modern look and that is just not our particular taste; but it is not a negative, as others may feel differently. The hotel and rooms were very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. We were upgraded to a Spectacular room, but honestly it was a pretty small room with a very small bathroom for their next to top room class. No turndown service was provided, I assume due to The Covid. Trace is the restaurant for the W for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We tried it for breakfast and dinner. In summary, the service is terrible, wait for food too long after ordering, staff and management are oblivious to the customer, and it is very expensive for what you get. Once received, the food was generally good. However, we will not go back to Trace (see my restaurant review on Trace for details as to why). The Spa for the W is the AWAY Spa. My wife had an afternoon massage reservation. She showed up and there was no one to walk her through the process other than the man at the desk, who pointed her to the locker room but could not go into the women’s locker area of course, so she had to fend for herself. The normal spa pampering experience was missed, but the price was not discounted. The massage itself was fantastic she said. The woman masseuse was great. Given the very high rate they charge, as compared to other top spas, you would expect the pampering pre-massage experience you enjoy at competitors and at a lower cost. It isn’t all about cost, but the valet parking was the only option at $49 plus tax, or $53 a day; which seems extreme compared to other cities and hotels we have stayed. We were given the option to self-park, but told the price was the same as the valet. When we checked out, the valet had the car immediately, but we had to wait a significant amount of time for our luggage (calling twice to see where the bellman was after being told they would be up right away each time). Finally a very nice security guard took care of our luggage needs. Upon checkout, we only mentioned our concerns on the price of the Spa ($204 for a 60 minute massage had surprised us and we thought it was an error) and the issues we had at their Trace restaurant. The front desk told us they would look into it, but that was all. We called later to discuss and tried to make us happy and issued two small credits for the restaurant and the spa (although noted as a room adjustment). Tried to give them a break because of Covid, but the hotel seems to be lacking some overall management at this time given the way the personnel acted. Perhaps it was because we had just visited the Hotel Emma in San Antonio (a fantastic hotel) and assumed we would receive similar customer focus at the W, but that expectation was too high a bar. We never heard from a manager at Trace, the hotel, or the Spa. We were able to receive help from the front desk, who was sympathetic and seemed genuinely concerned with our issues.

We truly appreciate you choosing W Austin and sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear of the issues that occurred and appreciate you detailing this to allow us the chance to review with our team. It's great to hear that there were positives, especially given our enhanced attention to detail during the cleaning process. I understand how despite this though, the overall stay did not meet your - or our own - expectations. We look forward to using your comments to enhance our overall guest experience and ensure that these issues remain isolated. It would be our pleasure to serve you and your wife again when you're back in Austin and we will do everything possible to ensure your next stay is flawless.

My wife and I have not been able to spend time with our grown Children who live in Austin since the COVID situation came up as I have to take immunosuppressants and we had not found a safe a comfortable way to spend time there. I reached out to the W to understand the current safety standards and ask for special room accommodations to make the trip both safe and enjoyable. Within hours I had a positive response from their management team wishing me safe travels. As usual upon arrival we we greeted by the warmly by staff but they were also taking care to observe all precautions. Throughout the stay they made us not only feel welcome, provided us everything we could need (including off menu smoothies) but also made it so that we did not feel concerned about being outside of our safe space at home. Room service was excellent and the way they have the outside setup at Trace allows for great food, fun atmosphere and also Social Distancing. If you like us have been thinking it is too risky to travel, or that when you got to the hotel it would feel like a hospital, the W Austin will change your mind. Thanks to all the staff that made our trip so great. Justin

The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. The room was large with great view and comfy bed. Very well appointed. Even had a clothes steamer in the closet! Lost a star in the review because the bathroom water pressure was terrible and the water in the shower and sink never got really hot. Also, so happy to see there were several water bottles in the room. Two of them were Voss water which I thought might not be “free”. They were not as I got an updated invoice. I think there should have been a sign indicating how much they were! Won’t drink them next time😂

We stayed at the W for Labor Day Weekend. We were unable to use the pool. The pool was limited to 100 people because of Covid. I understand the need to limit the number of people at the pool, but the hotel needs to implement a better system to allow guest use of the pool. We put our names on the waitlist at 2 and were not notified until around 7 that there was availability at the pool. It appeared the hotel was selling day passes for the pool and not offering guests priority. I think that given the need to limit people, the hotel should have limited the time guests could spend at at the pool. That way everyone would have the opportunity to use the pool. Additionally, the room had mold in the shower. Since Marriott has emphasized the enhanced cleaning, you would think this would not happen.

The pool is open to the public in the summer for $10 a person if you make a reservation online. The service is great and both of the managers always come by to check in on you. Kid friendly and I fun!
