Nestled in the heart of Austin, the Carpenter Hotel captivates guests with its stylish and inviting atmosphere, which is often described as a unique oasis. The prime location is consistently celebrated for its convenience to local attractions. Travelers laud the friendly and efficient service, as well as the hotel's cleanliness and attention to detail in the cozy rooms.
However, critiques include the high cost of in-room coffee and pricey parking. Despite some concerns over value, the Carpenter Hotel remains a popular choice for its well-appointed amenities and distinct Austin charm.

Detailed Reviews
Absolutely delighted by our stay at the Carpenter Hotel - We have stayed in several hotels around Austin and this might be my favorite! Every staff person we encountered was so helpful and nice. They had a texting concierge service that was great - anything we needed we got an immediate reply and response. Hotel rooms are comfy and bathrooms well equipped and robes were so great I had to purchase one! Everything well appointed and stylish with lovely treed areas felt like a mini oasis in the city. We had breakfast at the restaurant and everything was delicious. The only slightly odd thing is you pay to park in the garage but it is blocked off for the hotel guest only until 8 p.m so if you leave in the evening you aren't guaranteed a spot when you return even though you've paid for the space so just something to consider if you have a car. Otherwise everything top notch and looking forward to our next stay there at the end of the month!

Thank you for sharing your delightful experience at the Carpenter Hotel! It's wonderful to hear that it has become your favorite among the hotels in Austin. The praise for the helpful and friendly staff is heartening. The availability of a texting concierge service that provides immediate assistance is indeed a convenient touch. It's clear that the hotel's attention to detail in terms of room comfort, well-equipped bathrooms, and stylish decor contributed to your enjoyable stay. The mention of the hotel feeling like a mini oasis in the city is especially appealing, and it's great to know that you enjoyed the breakfast at the restaurant as well. Regarding the parking situation, it's useful information for future guests to be aware of the potential limitation if they plan to leave. However rest assured we are working on making alleviating this situation so it does not become a regular thing. We want to ensure any guests who pays for parking is guaranteed that spot throughout their stay with us. It's fantastic that you're already looking forward to your next stay at the Carpenter Hotel at the end of the month. We hope your next visit will be just as memorable as this one, if not more so!

Lovely hotel. Spacious and attractively decorated room. Food is delicious. But the customer service is what makes this hotel really outstanding. Elliott kept the doors open late for my delayed arrival, and it was a joy to meet someone who's hard of hearing like me. Well done, Carpenter for diversity and inclusivity. Also - whatever you need and wherever you may be, you can text the Carpenter from your phone and get a near instant response. You can get an iron delivered to your room, drinks delivered to you at the pool, all through texting one number. Just one point of contact. Brilliant. Finally, extra special love to waiter Christopher who is one of the most caring people I've ever met. 10/10, definitely will return.

I love the vibe of this property. Customer service is top notch. Our room was of generous size with attention paid to the smallest details (ie plenty of hooks in the bathroom). The proximity to campus was also a plus. Highly recommend!

The Carpenter is, by design, different from most hotel experiences. It reminded me of a 1970's college dorm, which is fine. This can feel adventurous and fun for guests, or, in our case, it can be a complete "swing and a miss" due to three avoidable experiences. First, there is no standard in room coffee machine, and the lobby is locked up until 7 am. If you arrange with the front desk in advance to get a DIY coffee in your room before 7 am, the price for one cup of coffee is $51.30! That is outrageous at any hotel, much less a hotel with a college dorm motif. Second, there's no hotel exercise facility, which alone is not a big problem. The challenge was that we were directed to walk to a "nearby" gym with a day pass from the hotel. The round trip walk just to get to and from the gym (ignoring the workout part) was three miles, taking about an hour. Third, there is wide open access from outside to all guest room hallway areas, with no visible security presence. We experienced several encounters with mentally unstable individuals in areas near the hotel, so were very worried every time we walked back to our room at night. Hope that they can fix these issues as the vibe is cool, and we really liked the restaurant.

We're truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at Carpenter Hotel. We appreciate your candid feedback as it helps us identify areas for improvement. Regarding the coffee situation, we apologize for the inconvenience. We understand the importance of having access to coffee, especially in the early hours of the morning. Overall had a wonderful experience. Exceptional checkin service by Manny who was very helpful, informative and friendly and immediately made us feel at home. Parking was very easy and the room had an industrial modern yet warm feel. Walking distance to wonderful food. Only negative we experienced was upon initial arrival (3pm) we asked a different check in personal (not manny) and asked if an early check in could be accommodated (we were an hour early). We were told the room was ready but early check in could not be accommodated without a fee. Otherwise wonderful experience.

I'm delighted to hear about your overall wonderful experience at Carpenter Hotel! It sounds like I was able to provide exceptional service that provided a lasting impression. I'm glad to know that the check-in process was smooth and that you found the industrial modern yet warm ambiance of the room appealing. It's also great to hear that the hotel's proximity to great food options added to your enjoyment. I understand that the only downside you encountered was the initial check-in experience with a different staff member, who mentioned a fee for early check-in even though your room was ready. I appreciate your feedback and will certainly take it into consideration to improve our guest services. I understand the importance of relaying information to the next person at the desk and apologize we did not follow through to make sure you were taken care of immediately. Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back to the Carpenter Hotel in the future for another memorable stay. Your feedback helps us enhance the overall guest experience.

We had received a gift card to the Carpenter last year and had been saving it for a special occasion. We had never heard of it and didn’t even know where it was located. When we arrived we were SO SURPRISED by how wonderful everything was! Amazing location if you are visiting the area and the decor and atmosphere is the Austin style in a nutshell. It was so cozy! We LOVED the room we stayed in and the bed and pillows were actually SUPER comfortable (something we’re not used to when we hotel stay). The staff is really wonderful as well and I loved the texting service we had to check out and if we had any questions during our stay. We’re definitely going to be back for a getaway closer to the summer so we can check out the pool as well!

I loved this hotel. I traveled here with my best friend for a girls’ weekend. We decided to stop in Austin on our way to New Braunfels for tubing. The vibe is relaxing and they did a great job of using the original Carpenters Hall in the aesthetic of the rooms. They also used the pecan trees as an asset to the property and integrated them into the design/layout of the pool and hotel. I grew up in South Austin but now live elsewhere and this made me feel right at home. The on-site restaurant, bar, and coffee shop were all fantastic. I wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe girls’ weekend will just be at The Carpenter next time!

We stayed for 3 nights in Austin and we’re excited with our choice. Reception was lovely and so was the room, but the rest just didn’t live up. Firstly, you have to ask for your room to be serviced. A very poor idea and it makes it hard. It meant we asked for water each day and didn’t get service…and didn’t fill the tips envelope either! The rules on where you could sit vs bar vs coffee shop serving were confusing and annoying. Couldn’t sit in the cafe for all the students there each day. Dinner was ok, but the push from the wait staff to sell and seek a 20% tip were very annoying. The air conditioning in the room was so loud all of the time that it disturbed our sleep. The QR code for parking didn’t work and reception were supposed to fix it, but we had a warning note saying we’d be fined. Check out was 2 women talking together who were totally disinterested in feedback so we left. No feedback given, so we’re doing it here. I wouldn’t stay again.

I went downstairs to ask a question and I saw a guy eating a bag of carrots straight from the bag in the back room. I asked the gentleman helping me if his friend was just eating a straight bag of carrots. His friend heard, and genuinely and eagerly asked if I wanted one as well. I said yes, and then the three of us were eating carrots chatting in the lobby.
I came back for work a few weeks later, and there was a carrot cake (I don't even like sweets but this was amazing) waiting for me in my room with a sweet welcome back to the hotel note.
Also, the coffeeshop, the outdoor area, the pool, the vibes -- all so good. This carrot event happened pre-covid, but I stopped by after, and the good vibes were still there.

The vibes are the Carpenter are super chic. The decor and the food were tasteful and fresh. We enjoyed the pool and our balcony. Everything was very cleanly. My only reservation is that nothing is complimentary for guests - coffee, parking, and meals are all full price and not cheap. Some might enjoy the feeling that they are not at a typical hotel, but I found it detracted a bit from the feeling of hospitality.

195carog, thank you for staying & sharing your recent experience at Carpenter Hotel! We are delighted to hear that you appreciated the chic ambiance of our property, as well as the unique decor and culinary offerings. It brings us great pleasure to know that you were able to relish in the amenities of our pool and balcony, all while enjoying the utmost cleanliness of our accommodations. While we are humbled by your kind words, we are disheartened to hear that the absence of complimentary offerings detracted from your overall feeling of hospitality. We strive to provide a unique experience for our guests, one that deviates from the traditional hotel experience, and have introduced unique offerings such as our daily champagne Happy Hour- complimentary to our hotel guests! We do however sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We are grateful for your patronage and hope to have the honor of welcoming you back to Carpenter Hotel in the future, where we aim to continually elevate the guest experience through our commitment to exceptional service. Capital Metro bus routes 3 and 30 both stop very close the the hotel. Both routes provide north/south access to the city and connect to many other routes. Check out Capital Metro’s website.
There is an on site parking garage that costs about $50 per night, comparable to parking at a hotel downtown. Use the LAZ parking app. There is very limited metered street parking.
