We were in from California for a destination wedding in Austin and many of the out of town guests stayed at the East Austin Hotel. The location, service and atmosphere at the hotel was fantastic. The hotel staff were very accommodating, courteous and professional. The location to many of Austin's east side restaurants and night life was fanstastic.

We loved the atmosphere and location of the East Austin Hotel, within walking distance to many great restaurants, bars, and scenery of East Austin (6th Street) neighborhood. Also an easy walk or drive to get to downtown and main highways. The rooms were very comfortable and trendy and the shared private bathroom situation was really not a big deal. It was a fun stay with great amenities and we loved the hotel cat, Wally so much! The only suggestion I would make is to add a little more lighting to the smaller cabin rooms and possibly offer your guests with a nice local guide to the area upon check-in.

I had originally booked online a room with two beds, then I received a call that it was over booked and had to accommodate us to a one bed and 2 recliners. After speaking with the manager Ava and trying to work something out, she rudely hung up on us. When we get there, check in was went ok with the guy there. When we got to the room, we saw one bed and two office chairs, when my brother sat on one he fell to the ground because one of the chairs was missing a wheel. The chair was put against the wall to make it stand straight. Not to mention, he slept on the floor. When in the shower, I notice shampoo, conditioner and body wash containers used. That was odd. Also, I almost fell in there while showering. I leaned over to grab the bar handle and lost my balance because it was detached from the wall, needs to be screwed right or replaced. Last but not least I went to grab the lotion that is provided by the hotel assuming it was new and never used but I was wrong, it was an empty bottle. I have pictures of all this if needed.

Stay: Cabin Room

In all, my experience with the hotel terrible. To start, this was my first time staying there and little information was given on how things worked/general information. For example, I asked what the bathroom situation was like because I know it was shared, and the receptionist looked at me like it was a dumb question to even ask in the first place.

The room itself had terrible lighting, the thermostat did not work properly, and there was constant noise from the streets and closing of doors in the hall. I hardly got any sleep both nights I stayed.

I think the robes idea is new, but one of them was very remniscent of boy in the striped pajamas and I did not appreciate that at all. There was also no information on what items in the room were complimentary and which ones were priced.

The restaurant at the hotel did not have good food. The service was great, but the food was terrible. I ordered and burger the first night, and it was terrible. The meat was burned and the bun did not taste fresh. I gave it another shot and ordered the chicken fried chicken the next night, and that was terrible as well. The chicken had a weird texture and flavor, and the mashed potatoes tasted like instant mashed potatoes. I didn't even touch the greens. The coffee in the morning is okay, but I would say Revival down the street is a much better option if you have the time.

The bathrooms were not well maintained nor properly cleaned. It appeared that cleaning meant restocking the q-tips and cotton balls in a little container, and replacing the towel mat. I brought my own shampoo, but not all restrooms had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I did though forget my toothpaste and it took an hour to get one even though I had called the night before to have the receptionist set one aside and had gone down in the morning to get it.

Overall, the aesthetics may be nice, but in no way outweigh the cost and experience here. I travel to Austin often for work and thought I would give it a try, but after this, will not be returning. The area around the hotel is nice, but even that does not help things. Cute in concept and maybe worth a visit, but definitely not a stay.

The quality of furnishings was not equal to the price I paid. Prior to booking, the website was not working, I called the hotel, was told I would receive a call back - that never happened. The fragrance in both the lobby and room were overpowering and unpleasant (a very "essential oils" smell, which I cannot stand). For being relatively new, I expected the amenities to be in better condition - the grout in the bathroom is dirty. The thermostat did not seem to change the temp in the room. There was a view of a concrete wall and weeds from my room. We had a room with private bath, yet I felt like I was staying at a Motel 6 since I had to access my room from a main EXTERIOR hallway. Extremely disappointed, would not recommend at all. I still don't know which of the drinks in the room are free or have a charge related to them because it was not clear. The paper that gives TV channel lineup looked like something was spilled on it. There was mysterious, short hair stuck to the side of the toothbrush holder cup. I stayed with a large group and every single person in my group agreed about the poor service, nasty smelling fragrances and low end quality of the furnishings. This is definitely a unique hotel, which clearly others enjoy, but for the price, this is not my cup of tea at all. If you prefer great service, cleanliness and luxury, this is not the place for you. I chose to stay here because this was where my group was staying.

Cool Mid Century Modern vibe in very graffiti rides section of town. Room was very small and we weren’t able to receive our reserved room that we booked 5 months in advance. (Poolside Queen) Our room was over 500 per night for the first night which was a rate hike due to an auto race in town that ended that day. Corporate greed at its worst. To make matters worse, when they gave our room to someone else, they offered only a paltry 30.00 per night reduction, which wasn’t for our inconvenience or it would seem for the difference in room rate based on the poor location room we were given. Not providing the reserved room started this short trip poorly and the paltry rate reduction didn’t help. We did received 4 drink tickets to use while we waited until after 3pm for our sublevel replacement and room that we know was ready when we arrived at 2. Nice people but poor handling of the overpriced overbooking. Food and Second restaurant was excellent. Roof bar was fun with planned functions each night. Drinks very expensive. Pool water was ice cold. Room cleaning was missed after our first night I guess to offset our 30 buck discount. Room AC didn’t work. Underground parking is convenient and while the graffiti laden neighborhood looked sketchy was safe to walk to very nice nearby bars and restaurants although not sure how late you could do that as a tourist. Overall the design and vibe of the hotel was cool but not sure I would return based on how we were treated when they didn’t have our 5 month advance reserved room. This was a family vacation and not having the poolside room was a huge disappointment for me as I was treating my family to this upgraded room.

We really loved this hotel. The staff was very friendly. Everything was so clean and the room had soft lighting, very comfortable bedding and spa-quality towels, robes and slippers. We stayed in a "cabin" room that does not have an attached bathroom, but it was very close, very clean and not shared during covid. Loved the neighborhood, lots of places to eat outside, including food trucks with courtyards. Unfortunately the hotel's restaurant and bar was closed due to covid, and it was too cold to swim, but we hope to come back sometime when the pandemic is over. Parking was a steep $25, but it was nice to have safe parking in a garage.

In a great neighborhood with plenty of restaurants, breweries, music spots. Not that far away from main downtown area. Completely walkable. It was a hot week in Austin and the hotel room was kept at a cool temperature throughout without having me touching anything. Coffee in room. Some rooms use shared bathrooms, I thought would be an issue -- not at all, always clean and readily available. Great find for a boutique type hotel.

I have never felt more annoyed at staying at a hotel than this one right here. It didn’t feel clean and the room is so small, it was not worth the $150 that I spent on it. They don’t even have bathrooms in the regular rooms and have to pay extra for rooms that come with their own bathrooms which is so crazy. On top of that they provided used sandals to use for the bathroom and charge you $28 if you want new ones. Also you have to pay for the garage to park your own car. It felt like a room that should be $50 maximum. Im never staying here again

Thank you for providing your feedback. We're sorry you did not enjoy your Cabin room with us. Our Cabin rooms are our European-style accommodations that do have the restroom unattached and down the hall, but the majority of our hotel rooms do have the en-suite bathrooms. We're sorry if that wasn't adequately conveyed to you prior to arrival. We do charge a $25/night parking fee, as is customary in the downtown/East Austin neighborhoods and is more affordable than some of our neighbors. Again, we apologize if that wasn't adequately convey to you prior to arrival. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking the time to provide your feedback.

From the begining of our overnight at East Austin Hotel to an amazing brunch at Sixth and Waller the next day-my friends and I were thrilled with the experience. Ava (GM) and Julian were so helpful and accomodating. Exactly what you want to encounter with a hotel staff-professional, welcoming, and friendly. The rooms were amazing with a modern Bohemian Beach vibe and that Austin twist visitors will love to come back to. Comfortable, eclectic, cool. East Austin Hotel sits in a perfect location of all things great about Austin, leaving any guest able to get around town with ease. I can confidently say East Austin Hotel is my only choice to lay my head while visiting this awesome city! Can't wait to get back in the warmer months and take advantage of their awesome tiki bar and pool. Thanks so much!
