The Hotel San Jose is located on South Congress Avenue, a few blocks south of where the Colorado River runs through downtown Austin. Originally built in 1939 as an "ultramodern motor court," the San Jose has since been transformed into a secluded urban bungalow-style hotel in the heart of one of the city's most beloved neighborhoods.

great location, neat vibe. Beautful gardens, simple rooms with all amenities, but reduced to elemental, hip forms. Loved this place. Lovely garden courtyard for breakfast, late night drinks. Pool is a sliver, but perfect for cooling off

Really liked Austin but not this place! This hotel/motel came recommended so I was really disappointed. It is an old motel that has been nicely renovated into a pretty cool property. Beautiful landscaping and a very minimalistic style for the room. The price point seemed high to me for what we got. The main issue we encountered was noise. People were outside my room, which had an "old style" motel window that was on a shared patio, other guest and hotel staff, talking and disturbing us throughout our stay. To make it worse, the maintenance closet was next to us! The hotel was full so all they offered me was a small reduction to my rental rate. I felt my issues were not very important to them. I would NOT recommend or stay at this place again. There are several other nice properties along So Congress that I plan to stay at on my next visit.

I’ve stayed here on my past three trips to Austin. The staff is friendly and helpful and location central for shops, dining, etc. They have great breakfast and snack options and just added cocktails. The look of the rooms is very southwestern chic and rooms have great amenities for the price, like Malin + Goetz bath products and robes. Also, the mini bar assortment is the coolest I’ve seen!

We stayed 2 nights here after getting bumped from the South Congress. While we enjoyed our stay, the price of $468 a night for a room was extreme for the accommodations provided. An additional $87 for breakfast, which, was 2 bowls of migas was again way pricey. The area was fun, lots of hipsters and cool young Austin folks everywhere on their lap tops, sipping coffe or lattes. We don’t plan on a return visit to this hotel.

Booked a room at this place on a whim for my (now wife) girlfriend and i's first out of town adventure. I could not have made a better choice! We arrived for Fourth of July weekend, parked our truck and did not get back in it for three days. We were in great proximity to great food, eclectic shopping and fantastic entertainment! We will be back!!
