We had an incredible stay. Tricia and team helped make our stay even more amazing. Best recommendations from all our restaurants to send our s to Barton Spring's for a swim. The hotel makes you feel like you live on South Congress. Can’t say enough. The Best. J
The diamond that Liz Lambert created some 25+ years ago continues to shine. The property is a creative gem that takes an old motorcourt hotel and turns it into an urban enclave, that even today, has one of the hippest scenes in all of Austin. Stop for a drink, stay for the pool, and return for a home that's hidden behind the ceramic tiles and draped vines. Properties have passing moments, but the Hotel San José is truly a timeless oasis tucked discreetly into the heart of a bustling city.
The San Jose is my go-to in Austin. Great location for getting downtown or for shopping/dining on South Congress. But more importantly it has a great vibe. The rooms are comfortable but hip, and the pool/bar/patio is chill and always a good place to hang out.
They have the best staff at this lovely hotel! So happy to help us out with whatever we needed! Tricia from Florida really made our stay! Definitely coming back! Fell in love with this city. Go get some pizza from up the street, buy the boots!! Played some pool, jumped in the springs!!!
If you are looking for a personal touch this is your place. It is the definition of laid back and cool. Everyone who works there is super chill and nice and happy to help. It is not fancy with little amenities so don’t stay there if you need a million bells and whistles in your room. But it has everything you need and the best vibe. Right on South Congress and next door to Jo’s coffee. Smaller pool, but again, great vibe. It is different for a hotel and very special.
My two dogs and I enjoyed a long weekend at the San Jose while our home renovation was being completed… it was such a fun getaway! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. Tricia and Alexis especially helped to make the pups feel at home. We chose a petite suite, which was perfect for an extended stay.
I would definitely stay here again. I was in room 54, a large corner room with a deck overlooking the hotel patio. Pros: beautiful inside and out, ice room also has filtered water to fill your water bottle (by room 17), free coffee, great staff, good workspace in the room, beautiful grounds, great location on S Congress. Cons: no lounge chairs by the (small) pool, a lot of noise at night on the patio so if this is going to bother you, I would suggest another room.
One would think that a simple problem like replacing a battery in a smoke detector would be straightforward. Especially given the overall satisfaction of our stay. I would have given a better review if we did not have to change rooms at 10:30 pm when the chirping of the alarm began. Rather than call maintenance we were shuffled to a VERY noisy room (also offered complimentary ear plugs) where neither one of us slept. The room we originally occupied was lovely and surprisingly quiet given the area. Pool is great as is the landscaping and service in general.
We picked this hotel for its location as it was so close to many of the bars and restaurants we wanted to visit while in Austin. After staying in Dallas and Houston, where we relied on cars to get around, it was so nice to be able to go out in the evening and walk to have dinner or drinks. Our room was quite basic but because we were so busy in Austin and out for most of the day - and evening - we didn't spend a whole lot of time in the room so it didn't matter too much and I think this is definitely the kind of hotel which you use as a base to explore the surrounding neighbourhood or spend time in the social areas of the hotel.
My husband and I stopped here For drinks a few times on our trip in Austin and loved it!! The decor is so trendy and the frose is amazing! They also have a really great gift shop. It was my favorite place we saw during the whorl trip, and we checked out everything. We must stay next time we’re in town.
