We checked in at 11 pm on Christmas Eve without a reservation. Annie was the only one working the front desk and she had to deal with the Delta crew that couldn't depart to Nashville due to the bombing. She had poise, patience and grace. I applaud her ability to handle it all without getting flustered. The rooms are comfortable and clean. One of my favorite places to stay in Austin.
The hotel has seen better days. Rooms tired, pillows not good quality, needs a refit. Unlikely to stay here again. Everything closed (apart from rooms) due to COVID but not great. Average at best, I am sure there are much better choices in Austin.
Nice hotel: friendly staff, convenient to the interstate, comfy bed, and clean room. My only disappointment was the lack of any meal service/restaurant in the hotel due to COVID, and the choices in the surrounding area are very limited. I will stay again.
Several issues during our stay here. We have been at this property a couple times before. Here are the problems encountered. 1) No housekeeping. Did not receive any housekeeping during any time. Asked why, was not given reason. We did not "opt-out" of housekeeping either. 2) The television in the room is terrible. Only 6 channels received HD transmissions. All the other channels were totally unwatchable. For instance, one the LOCAL channels (NBC), we could not read the numbers on the hockey players jerseys. Unacceptable. 3) There were no Select Guest services available (no beverage service, bar and restaurant closed). None of these items were advertised via hotel's web site, nor were explained until after we checked in and wanted something to eat. We did manage to obtain juice in the mornings, but only after "working something out" with the day manager. Even during this tough time, Omni must properly advertise EXACTLY what is available, and what is not going to be available, via your website or via emails to guests. 4) We learned that this hotel is issuing day passes to non-guests, guessing as a way to increase revenue. Again, not advertised to us. The 15 or so people with day passes on 1 day of our stay did not severely impact our use of the pool area. 5) The pool area is in need of major renovation. In several places the cement is uneven, up to 1-2 inches, causing major tripping hazards. There are places where pieces of cement have come off the walls of the pool. The furniture and seating pads are exhausted and need to be replaced - they are uncomfortable. Even with the day pass guests, the towels were kept replenished and the indoor hot tub area was clean. 6) The neighborhood around the hotel has gone down severely. Graffitti is rampant, garbage and trash littered just across the street, and homeless people at every corner around the hotel made us feel unsafe and unsettled. I witnessed a homeless person jump the hotel's short fence and hop into the pool for a 30 second swim. His companion was not able to jump the fence to join him. About 2 minutes later a hotel employee came out and looked around the area, but the homeless people had already left. I'm not sure the words disgusting and creepy properly explain our feelings about this. Granted we don't know the health and safety conditions of the hotel guests that are in the pool, but a fully clothed homeless person is a different story. We will not be returning to this property ever again. We know it's tough going with the pandemic. But you must explain to guests exactly what is going to be available, you must tell guests what's going on within the hotel during my stay, and you must have a safe, clean, and welcoming atmosphere. We stayed here on 7-19-20 to celebrate our anniversary, but really to just spend a day or so by and in a pool. The lobby is in great shape and very clean. We did online check in, but they still had us sign something which we were trying to avoid since we are “Covid adverse”. Oh, well, more hand sanitizer. They upgraded us to a junior suite and had several of their staff sign a happy anniversary card to us. Very nice. The suite was one large room with a good size sitting area and wet bar. All seemed very clean. Supposedly no one had been in the room for over 24 hours, but I wish they would seal the room once it’s clean like some chains now do. It also had both a Keurig and a Nespresso machine which I enjoyed. The pool is resort style with a large pool connected by a short river to a smaller indoor-outdoor pool. We could easily distance ourselves from the few others at the pool. However, the pool is In considerable need of cosmetic work. Didn’t bother us, but I was surprised. Also, when we went for a swim the next morning, the staff were arranging the chairs, but were not sanitizing them. The ladders had handprints from the day before, so clearly had not been sanitized or even wiped down. All in all, it was a good short stay and we got in some relaxing pool time. …
