Hotel's Favorite
The Belmont Inn was a treat to stay at, and a good value for the money. It's exactly what I would expect for an old but well maintained historic hotel, with appropriate upgrades for the modern era, all without losing any of its charm. The staff were quite friendly and helpful, and the complementary drink upon check-in was much appreciated at the hotel's bar, I enjoyed sipping it at the end of the veranda, overlooking the festive downtown square at sunset. I didn't try the Belmont's dinner options though, as I wanted to walk the town square and try one of the many restaurants nearby. The hotel's continental breakfast the next morning was standard fare, although the surroundings made it a relaxing way to start the day.

My sister stayed here her first visit and so we all decided to give it a try on our family visit this year. Abbeville is a cute one-street town and is absolutely crowned by The Belmont Inn across the square from the Opera House. The Inn has quite some history you could read about and is nicely refurbished.
It reminds me of a big bed & breakfast.
The room we had for 4 of us was spacious with two Queen size beds and a folding cot for an extra charge. There weren't refrigerators in the rooms but we managed.
Breakfast was abundant with waffles, bagels, cereals, instant grits and oatmeal for the making, plus yogurt, fruit and spreads. They also had microwaveable sausage biscuits which tasted better than they sound. I would have liked some eggs but didn't see it offered either day.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. We got a second multi-gallon vat of coffee after we had finished the first one.
We had some unloading to do after clearing out my dad's former house in Anderson and a man asked if we needed help. He identified himself as the handyman. We declined but it was a nice offer.
There is a bar downstairs open most nights and they had a nice looking taco bar for Taco Tuesday.
Parking is abundant and the town of Abbeville is right there with everything walking distance. There are also spacious sitting rooms and even a pet spa(!)
I didn't see any other hotels in Abbeville. But you don't need to look any further than The Belmont Inn.

Enjoyed a weekend stay at this historic hotel. The owner is very involved in running the hotel and the entire staff was friendly and eager to make sure our stay went well. It was very interesting to walk around and look at some of the displays they had telling about its history. It was like stepping back in time (in a good way!) to the beginning of last century when it was built. There are many antiques in the public areas and the room furnishings are also true to the early 20th century character. It was very relaxing to sit on the veranda that overlooks the town square. We also ate Sunday lunch there - meat and veggie plate - and it was very good. I could have made a meal out of just the squash casserole! I believe they offer dinner several nights during the week as well. Highly recommend!

This is my favorite kind of hotel. Ancient with real keys and rumors of hauntings, built originally in 1903 as the Eureka, and playing host to all sorts of guests before the interstate took away her clientele. If you like modern comforts like a coffee maker and in-room fridge this may not be for you. If you prefer loving touches like locally made soaps and lotions, a breakfast area hangout with a multitude of teas, coffee and cocoa available 24 hours, a Southern sitting room and veranda, and creaky wood floors, this might be your kind of place. Exceptionally clean, a well stocked continental breakfast and the quietest night I've ever slept through (no road noise - I woke up middle of the night because of the incredible silence) only some early risers, myself included. I loved my stay and can't wait to come back and spend more time in this tiny, historically significant town.

Positives: Warm welcome after a long trip. In spite of it being old, it was very quiet. Nice crisp sheets.
Negatives: Bathroom issues. Very old and inadequate lighting, loud fan, only two bath towels and no bath mat. In the early morning, while using the toilet, freezing cold water was dripping on guest from room above. Bathroom was not what should be provided with a $140 plus room. Even though it is old, this was very subpar. Only two very flat pillows on a king size bed and no additional bed pillows in the room. Again, for this price, it was subpar. No wifi. Call to the desk did not resolve, had to go to somewhere else in the inn to get access. At the late hour this was not helpful.

My wife, daughter and I enjoyed three nights at the amazing Belmont Inn. This delightful hotel is brimming with history and beauty from the turn of the century. We have stayed here twice before. The stately bedrooms all have high ceilings, hardwood floors, all modern conveniences, and are tastefully decorated with period furniture. The Belmont is steps aways from the downtown shops, sights and restaurants, and has a great restaurant and bar of its own. Breakfast was included and delicious. We enjoyed dining morning and night on the marble-tiled veranda overlooking the City of Abbeville. The Innkeepers/Owners are very friendly and accommodating.

The hotel was very nice and accommodating. The room was very clean, Wi-Fi good, breakfast choices adequate. The attached restaurant was very good.
You can hear guests in the other rooms talking and if they drop things because of the wooden floors. I guess that would be a luck of the draw if you are next to noisy people at night or not.
The only drawback, was that our room did not have a blow dryer, and was told by the girl upfront that they didn’t have one for us.
Great stay, we will return.

We loved staying here for our visit to the nearby diamond hill mine.
The building was welcoming, historic, charming.
We were greeted by a friendly gentlemen in an adorable hat. Pure southern charm. He made me feel so welcome. Judith at the front desk was so sweet too!
There is a bar downstairs that looked like fun but we were ready to go to bed. Our room was spotless and charming. New linens and curtains but they still fit the look of the building. Clean bathroom. I appreciated the window A/C unit as it is HOT in the summer. The window unit was pretty loud but I was so grateful for the cool I was fine with it. Remember you are in a historic building. Comfy bed too.
Breakfast was pretty standard pop tarts and fruit and stuff nothing special.
Worth the price in my opinion. I would definitely come again!

The people are so sweet.
I had a very late check in (around midnight) and I’m not comfortable to continue driving or I would not have even been 10 minutes in this place! I was excited after seeing the reviews but they are sadly untrue about the condition. It’s filthy.
I hate to say I’m disgusted by this place. I’m in shock by the yuck. I refuse to get under the blanket. The towels seemed new, so I was able to spread one on top of the bedspread and roll up another for a pillow.
I booked a room in Greenwood for tomorrow and I’m leaving here at daybreak. There are someone else’s dirty tissues under the bed and in the drawers. The floors are dirty. The sheets look like they’ve seen better days and they’re just gritty. The shower has missing tiles. Honestly, if it was safe, I’d sleep in my rented car. Major icky factor.

Thanks so much for your feedback. Providing a clean, comfortable and safe place for our guests is as much a priority for us as is our emphasis on hospitality. As you can tell by our reviews, this room is not indicative of our standards. I will DEFINITELY review this situation with all team members involved and determine the cause of the issues that you have addressed and take the steps necessary to resolve them.

This Hotel is nearing 120 years old. If your looking for a Holiday Inn, this is NOT your place. If your looking for antiques true to the time this IS your place. If your looking for ghosts this is your place to. I had a loud noise startle me wake, as I tried to get comfortable again twice on my hip I felt a hand shake me. And people I do not do ghosts! I just closed my eyes and never looked behind me and slid closer to my husband. So if you want an experience this is your place. And So glad we didn’t miss Sunday Lunch. It was sooo good. The town is old and has so much history. You can’t see it all in a weekend. I will definitely be staying here again. The owners were amazing to work with and every time we ran into staff they asked if we needed anything and how our stay was. I highly recommend!
