Very Family friendly environment, this is a cool local spot that has great music nights with local bands and food. And a very beautiful wedding venue as well! I highly recommend, they have big nice bathtubs in most of the rooms:)
As others have noted, the experience here is underwhelming. There is no operating restaurant on the property, the rooms are less "lodgey" than one would expect, and the service is minimal. We had a pleasant and uneventful night, but we just cant recommend this place for a special getaway.
Yes, some of the observations made in other reviews are true. BUT... if you embrace the local culture and ‘go with the flow’ you will find not only a beautiful lodge and setting but SUPER FRIENDLY PEOPLE ENJOYING LIFE! The atmosphere is VERY RELAXED. . The restaurant is great but you cannot be in a hurry. If you have the right frame of mind you will thoroughly enjoy this place!! PS yes, when we were here another time years ago there was a deer hanging out in the lodge :)
The short and sweet: This lodge is stunning yet full of issues causing the most uncomfortable lodging experience. The long story: We booked a stay over Valentines weekend. It was such a beautiful lodge and location. A key was left for us to check ourselves in. The room was rustic and cute. Despite there being stains on the bedding, we settled in for the night and tried to sleep with the upstairs guest music thumping throught the walls until midnight and starting back up at 4 am. The next morning we met Pete, the on-site innkeeper. He was smoking next to the lobby fireplace, just past the no smoking sign, wearing what appeared to be pajamas and no shoes. After bringing up the all night music fest he said, "don't worry about it they won't be here tomorrow." Later we spent time talking with Pete about renting the entire Lodge for our 3 or 4 night wedding event. We really like the idea and even had the opportunity to meet Joanna, the owner and wedding event coordinator. We asked Pete if we could see the honeymoon suite, seeing the previous guest had just checked out. Pete had apparently already given the room to one of his buddies who appeared to be homeless. He checked with his buddy if we could go look at the room and we were given the go ahead. On the table in the room was a huge pile of Marijuana. Right outside the lobby door is a sign stating no Marijuana is allowed on the property because it could effect our liquor license. Despite this, the smell of cigarette smoke and burning pot lingered throughout the lodge the rest of the day as Pete, Rick (the co-owner) and his buddy never stopped smoking. Valentines evening we made a large charcuterie board and had a couple of bottles of wine to share with other guest in the lobby near the fireplace. We thought it would be a great way to meet fellow travelers - little did we know we would be feeding the homeless communityof Applegate. Though taking care of others is a great thing to do, but it was not something we had expected to on our romantic weekend away at a beautiful riverfront lodge. Several questionable people, who cleay were not your average guest, stumbled into one of rooms. The final straw was when Pete was away, an incoherent homeless man came stumbling in mumbling stuff to us as he sat down and then was surprised when we were not Pete (who he thought he was talking to). We packed up head to our room. Much later Valentines night, an intoxicated Pete came stumbling into our room because he forgot he had rented it and was look for a place to crash. Apparently he sleeps in our room when it isn't occupied. Okay so you made a mistake... BUT GET OUT! No rather than apologize and leave he stays in the room for a full minute or two apologizing. Talk about a violating feeling! The next morning while packing up the car and man (who we found out later has staid at the lodge the week before) pulled in. He walked over to the wedding venue area, having seen me, and pulls down his pants to take a leak. Really?! Now with all the uncomfortable, and frankly violating, events of the past 24 hours Pete did compensate us half of our price. We tried to contact Joanna the owner to discuss the events and see how we could be assured none of this would happen if we hosted our wedding there. She not only refused to call us back, when pressed for contact, she gave a short snide email saying she hoped the financial compensation was enough.…
For starter we checked in at 3 pm. We called the guy Pete to check us in since his number was on the counter. 15 min later a man with no teeth no shoes smoking a cigarette, no mask, coughing, and completely disoriented came to the front and said he be right there then stepped outside to finish his cigarette. Next everything seemed quiet noone was really there. When we entered our room the housekeeper told us she had just cleaned it and we were good to go. Upon entry we noticed a large marijuana joint left on the staircase and someones phone charger on the table. In times like these that is NOT very sanitary. We didnt bother complaining. At about midnight there was some rucuss down in the lobby. people partying n such. we just tried to sleep through it. Woke up at 6 due to couldnt breathe. The cigarette smoke thru the building was so extreme that we called our realtor to come pick us up at 7am because I couldnt handle it. We left there tired upset stressed and smelling of smoke. Not the relaxing retreat we had hoped for while we were looking for a home in this beautiful valley. Needless to say though we had booked our room for the week, we packed out all our stuff at 7am and relocated to an actual hotel that provided appropriate lodging and ammenities. I also want to mention. There are NO showers and there is NO TV and the WIFI connection is terrible so we were unable to even turn a TV on to drown out the midnight party on that Sunday night. I would NEVER pay $175 to stay in this smoke hole again nor would i reccomend it. Beautiful building but ran by staff that cares none about the hospitality service you think you will be provided.…
This place is an absolute joke. If you are a pot smoker, it's fine. I am not. My husband took me here for our ten year anniversary for a quiet weekend on the river. When we first checked in, the lobby smelled like pot (which I wrongly assumed was from another guest), nobody was actually there to take care of us and we had to call. The room itself is weird, no shower and smells like an attic. The window looking into the bedroom as well as the bathroom window both had lace curtains, no privacy whatsoever.Kind of weird for a "honeymoon suite".The view was the only nice thing, having a deck overlooking the Applegate river.Which, would be nice if not for the constant noise, and constant pot smoke surrounding the place. We almost left after the first night, but decided to stick it out because we didn't have time to fuss with finding another place and cancelling there before we had something scheduled to get to.How I wish we had followed through with that thought. Saturday night was way worse than Friday night. After a day of outings we decided to relax back at the room and give it a second chance, and eat at the lodge rather than go all the way back to Jacksonville where we were spending most of our time. The same "musician" was there playing the same music on repeat (which really makes the river impossible to enjoy, I mean that stuff is okay but not all the time, we came thinking we were getting a quiet river retreat). We went to the restaurant and were told there was a wait for seating outside, which we were fine with and ordered a drink, and patiently waited inside. The waiter and the bartender both were great, both seemed to have a handle on who was in line for seating and kept us informed. Well, the owner came in and then let two groups of people who had just walked in way after us both get seated before us, then proceeded to tell three dirty hippies who were bragging about having been drinking all day take their drinks outside the bar (after the bartender told them they couldn't bring them outside the bar). The owner directed them to bring the drinks right outside the deck in front of our room (and the room above us). When we were seated after waiting patiently for 30 minutes it was in a corner that was worse than our seat inside, and the people who came after us got prime seating and were given menus, meanwhile we weren't given menus. We told the bartender that was bringing us out that we wanted to settle up and wouldn't be eating there, as the owner had really irritated us. She was great, apologetic, but doesn't make up for the owner (who should probably get out of her employees' way).We went back to our room and were going to get a pizza next door and the three girls who had brought their drinks outside were right there, literally in front of our room drinking and smoking pot. I asked them to leave, but then when my husband was getting the pizza another group of pot smokers came and camped out on the deck adjoining the deck attached to our room, so impossible to not smell it. After the confrontation with the first group of pot heads I wasn't about to do this again so I went to the front to ask management (haha, what a joke) to take care of it, again, nobody there.I tried to call and nobody answered, so I left a message, waited, and called again. Nothing. At this point our actual room smells like pot and we can't stand it. All the while yet ANOTHER group of pot heads are heading to the spot in front of our room again with their drinks (which there are signs all over the place not to bring drinks outside the bar, but its clear this isn't enforced). At this point we realize we are going to spend our entire night surrounded by partiers, so we left. This was super disappointing, especially given it was the first getaway we've had since we had kids. This place basically ruined our anniversary trip. We've been trying to get in contact with the owner and are being given the runaround. She won't call us back.…
We were told this is an awesome place to sit outside and enjoy drinks and a meal. It was a beautiful setting outside in the shade next to the river and our food was very good. However, the service was terrible! We waited well over an hour for our food to arrive. Thankfully we weren’t in a rush.
We wanted a nice quiet place for our anniversary and this proved to be the place! There are no in-room phones, no televisions, no coffee makers! Now the good stuff, you can watch TV or anything else on your laptop at no charge, of the mornings there are bagels and coffee in the dayroom if you like a full breakfast there is a great coffee shop just a short walk away across the street, each room has a balcony overlooking the bride of the Applegate River.
We stayed at Applegate Lodge overnight as a wedding guest. What a wonderful experience! Staff provided excellent and personal service. My husband and I stayed in the Goldmining room with jacuzzi tube and comfortable queen bed. Nice deck outside the room overlooking the river. Quiet. Grounds were beautifully kept and lodge was clean both inside and out. The staff at Applegate were accommodating to all of our needs. We would go back again in a heartbeat!!
We went here with friends; let me just start by saying how disappointed I was in the service. We waited forever for everything & when someone asked about something we had ordered our server was very short in her response. My husbands meal was beyond disappointing as well. He ordered the New York steak and only about a third of it was edible. Not on our list to visit again.
