We were only able to get a balcony room for one night so I grabbed it. We arrived early and the pleasant lady at the front desk apologized that most of the rooms were not ready because they just had 119 guests leave. There was one balcony room available but the view was not ideal. I was happy to take it since we were early & really wasn’t planning on spending time on the balcony, which was pretty small. The staff was very nice. I would like to mention one young man at the pool in particular. His name was Paris & he was Jonny on the spot when a toddler tried to leave the pool area. Once the mom located him she announced he likes to wander. Paris & another female staff member were great with the child asking to point out their parent. Our room was nice and clean. Great amenities. Our balcony door did not lock but we did not report it. The TV wasn’t working but once reported someone immediately came up to fix it. We were awakened at 8am from housekeeping. Our fault for not putting the do not disturb sign on the door, but typically they don’t come until after you check out. Doc’s food was a disappointment. Especially the breakfast buffet for $15. They had syrup but no pancakes waffles or French toast. The food was really mediocre at best. The pool was nice but overcrowded & trying to find a place to land was a struggle. The drinks were good, & I enjoyed having a pool bar and restroom nearby. The anchor gaming facility was really nice. There were folks there that I took for members that seemed entitled. Folks walking around like they had large bank accounts would literally walk in front of you to get equipment or a drink. It seemed the bartenders would cater to them. I have felt more welcomed at a fancy resort in Maui. There is not really any shaded areas for the outside activities. But, I bet the facility would be nice in the fall. It appeared that the place was struggling to hire enough folks. More bartenders would probably be helpful.

A group of us stayed at the Shangri-la this past weekend. The resort has many amenities but if you’re looking to have a good “adult” time, probably look elsewhere. The hotel virtually shuts down at 12am. The bars on property close at midnight and you aren’t allowed to sit by the pool after 1am. We went up to our room with a couple of friends and received a noise complaint at 2am. After midnight there’s pretty much nothing to do and nowhere to go, on and off the island. This was all on a Friday night too. We aren’t a rowdy bunch either, just a group of 30-40 year old professionals who were on a weekend getaway. It felt more like a retirement community than a resort.

April visit to Grand Lake in Ok and we stayed 3 nights at Shangri-La Resort. Some of our relatives have a condo on the lake but not enough room for us to stay so we tried out the resort. Covid times traveling can be hit and miss and that's what I would say about Shangri-La. The check folks were very friendly and helpful and we had booked a large 2 double bed room. Ok room but the view is not good. Apparently all the larger rooms over look the parking lot and not the lake...weird design paying for a larger room but no view. Never could get the TV working and the dude tried but said he would have to get someone else..so we did not bother with that. Only 1 restaurant was open and food was good not great but standard pub grub fare. Breakfast was better than the lunches. They were short handed so the wait for food is a bit long. The free coffee bar had some rolls and fruit that did not look too good and the free coffee was terrible so I bought coffee every day at the monkey grind. It is a modified Starbucks. The pool area seems a bit run down and pool was not heated. Hot tub was working but did not get in. Golf was the highlight as the 3 9 holes courses were nice! Everyone was very nice and friendly but you could tell they were short handed and also had been shut down so I realize it takes some to get folks back to work and trained up. This is still the best hotel to be on Grand Lake and if we return I would stay there again

Having a fun day on the lake with friends, we stopped by the marina to have lunch at Docs bar and grill. Very clean, lots of nice courtesy docks for leaving your boat while your out and about on the resort. We were VERY impressed with a kind young gentleman by the name of Joshua he worked at the marina helping people with gas, parking their boats and so on. He went above and beyond with great work ethic. The food and service at Docs was very good as well.

The wife and I decided to travel a little bit for our anniversary. We normally only go about an hour away from home. We were at Grand Lake over the summer and love it. So when my sister told us about Shangri La Resort we had to try it. I will say our overall experience was outstanding. We will go back. I will start with the room that is my only complaint. We could hear our neighbor's every sound, bathroom, tv, and voice. The room itself very nice, clean and had a great view. Now let me talk about the staff. Over the top is how I would describe them especially the gentleman who drove the shuttle bus and delivered supply to our room. I wish I would have gotten his name. I do know that he was in the military at one point in time. All the staff was great. Very helpful and ready to serve. The weather had everything shut down and I thought our anniversary was going to be a failure. We had to plans for nice dinners and Massages and was getting the news everything was closing. Then the wonderful staff to care of us. Move our messages to be done before they closed and give us a discounted rate for a third night. Overall great place and we enjoyed ourselves. This place is worth the drive.
