I do not enjoy writing negative reviews and I so wanted to like the Sarpedor given that it has so much going for it – a great location, lovely views, spacious rooms and crystal-clear waters. Alas, there are just too many things not adding up that detract from those assets. My husband and I arrived late afternoon at what was to be the last stop on our 1000+km trip around Western/Southern Turkey. We were just planning to relax for three nights, apart from a jaunt into Bodrum to do a bit of sightseeing, enjoy some retail therapy and have a lovely meal. Despite the fact that it was 17.30 hours, our room wasn’t ready (???) While we were waiting at reception a staff member tried to sell us a 500 Euro boat trip on a private yacht… not impressed. When we were eventually led to our room in the 600 building, we found that the fridge was empty (despite an existing minibar price list on top of it) and not working. As there was no phone in the room, either, we walked back up to reception to report the faults. The girl at reception did not speak English (in a hotel with international clientele?) and had to call her boss. We were assured all would be taken care of. This was not so. While they provided a phone the fridge remained barely under room temperature throughout our stay and was never filled – despite our reporting this on a daily basis. The cleaning lady made the most beautiful towel animals but if we wanted tea/Nescafe/creamer refills, disposable cups or the complimentary water we were entitled to we had to get them ourselves from reception. This was symptomatic of everything at the Sarpedor – the potential is there but staff are disinterested, erratic and/or easily flustered. One of the light fixtures in the room was constantly flickering and the battery in the safe was about to die. This lack of power was compensated for by the external terrace light which was on an automatic switch that could not be turned off and was on all night. This stopped us from being able to sit outside on our terrace at night to watch the stars in darkness and without being eaten alive by mosquitoes. Ironically, our neighbours, who would have liked to sit outside at night to play cards found that their external light could not be turned on. We considered swapping rooms… Another thing we had no control over was the constant “elevator” music that blared from the speakers at the main swimming pool from early morning to late at night. However, this turned out to be a minor irritation compared to the humungous clunk we heard every time a car passed over the metal grilles behind our building. The noise was so loud that things in our room shook each time. It took us a while to figure out what the awful noise actually was – it sounded like a giant steel door being banged shut every couple of minutes, day and night! Word of warning: avoid block 6 at all costs (although I can’t imagine block 5 being much better due to the same access road leading to reception right behind it). Breakfast was ok, the location of the restaurant is lovely (food review separately) and the beach/deck area is beautiful. On our first morning, we left our towels and some belongings on a couple of beach chairs and went to confirm our spa reservation for that afternoon. When we returned 10 minutes later, a Russian woman had put her towel and mobile phone on top of our belongings. Not what you want to deal with in a time of Covid. I gingerly lifted her things off ours and put them on a nearby table. She returned some time later, picked up her belongings without even looking at us and walked away without an apology. Our couple’s massage was in a lovely outdoor setting just above the beach. It was extremely “vigorous” to say the least. I normally don’t mind deep tissue massages (although we had specified that we wanted a relaxing aromatherapy one) but this bordered on the painful. I found it unusual that the masseuse, a big Ukrainian girl, knelt on my head - although not as unusual as when the two masseuses applied tea-tree facemasks and then abandoned us. We waited for a while for them to return and wash them off but after almost half an hour, with the masks completely dried on our faces, we stomped back up the hill to the spa. At this point we were pointed to a sink in a dark corner of the premises which had no soap, cleanser, face-cloth or anything else with which we could have removed the dried masks. When we wanted to use the only shower cubicle in the spa we found it was full of somebody’s toiletries and personal sponges… Not a good experience. The night before check-out we asked if we could move our 12 noon check-out to slightly later in the day as we were not flying home until 22.00 hours. The answer was a stern “no”. No apology or explanation or even an offer to leave our luggage in a safe room, or use the pool/beach facilities and then a communal bathroom to get changed in. When returning from Bodrum that night, the security guard at the gate told us off for bringing back a bottle of water. Apparently we weren’t “officially allowed to bring anything back to the hotel as “you can get everything you need right here”. At that point, given our three-day battle to get Nescafe sachets and water refills, we laughed hysterically at the irony of that comment. We have travelled widely over many years, including in totalitarian countries, but this was the first time we were told that we couldn’t buy a bottle of water elsewhere and bring it back – to our still empty fridge!!! Seriously, Sarpedor, you can do better than this.

We stayed here during August and were slightly apprehensive about a hotel stay during Covid, but Sarpedor has everything covered to make you feel safe. Temperature check on arrival, staff in masks, sanitation procedures, and antibacterial handgel available everywhere. The hotel is small, only 32 rooms, but has a feeling of being very spacious. Plenty of sunloungers, all spaced out, restaurant tables and outdoor furniture never fully occupied. It is so easy to find a secluded spot. All the staff are 5 star! Always ready to help, Very prompt service and always with a smile. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble, even if you had a food request, they would do their best to accommodate. All meals are a la carte, so no worries about buffet tables and queuing. Our Superior room was gorgeous, minimal and very clean with a sea view. Everything was spotless. We loved our stay so much so that we went back for a week beginning of October and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. The same level of excellent service and attention, which sometimes isn’t always the case on a second visit. I absolutely love this place and am now worried that it won’t be my best kept secret anymore! Thank you all at Sarpedor, feels like our second home! We will definitely be back..... again!!!

Just got back from the Sarpedor Hotel and have to say we have had the most lovely & relaxing experience, courtesy of the extremely helpful and friendly staff and beatiful location and surroundings of the Hotel. Private Beach, nobody trying to sell you anything, very good food and very reasonably priced wines if you want to chose something different to the House Wines. Throughly recommend a visit. Our thanks to Ishmael and all his food and beverage staff, Ebru, Eylül & her boyfriend, and the many others whose names are a bit tricky to spell correctly.

As every year we prefered to stay at Sarpedor again. This year it was more critical to choose a hotel beacuse of Cavid but according to our previous experiences we knew that Sarpedor was the safest place to stay. As we tought our holiday was very safe and peaceful. All precautions was taken by the management and the staff. As every year the food was perfect. We even did not spend one hour out of the hotel. Thanks again for the perfect food and hospitality.
