I was on a half board booking for 6 nights. The disappointment started off from the time of check-in

1) Made to wait for 2 hours for check-in as the room wasn't ready. I reached the hotel at 5 pm MVT. Else, I had to take a twin room.

2) The restaurant across the street is the location for breakfast and other meals based on your meal option. Day 1 Dinner, was told to choose from their fixed lunch menu, Day 2 Dinner onwards, I was told the menu items can be shown but never was explained what fits into a half board. I was only told. Oh, this isn't in the plan or we will adjust it into the plan. Day 3 onwards, no buffet Breakfast because of not many guests in the hotel. Again I was not told what is the spread if there is no buffet. Black Coffee is awful.

3) The room is rundown and the TV remote had dust. So not sure how good is the housekeeping

The only positive was the laundry even though it wasn't express service, I got it back by the end of the day instead of the usual 36 hours. Also, the sitting area behind the lift area. It is a nice place to meet friends and chitchat

The Hotel location is very good. Nearby Male Ferry Terminal. One can take ferries very easily to visit local islands ie: Hulhumale etc. However the hotel rooms and facilities are old, but they have maintained it very well. The room was very neat and clean, the AC worked fine. The hotel staff at reception, restaurant even the Front Guard is very prompt and helpful.

There’s only one power outlet in our room. So i have to remove the tv and frdge plug just to charge my other devices. There’s a common area where you can use the dining table and sofa.

Internet is not stable. It’s very slow and some times it’s not working.

The toilet is very smelly. Room is very old. It doesn’t look like a hotel. This needs a major renovation.

Our booking have a free airport transfer. Funny tho, upon check out I was expecting for a “car” for the airport transfer but only to find out that the so-called “airport transfer” is via PUBLIC FERRY. If only I knew I would’ve took a cab to go to the airport.

On the brighter side, location is perfect. Near the jetty, and bus stops.

Caution: DON'T BOOK THIS HOTEL!
The advertisement on the booking platforms is very misleading and does not show the reality.
The lady at the reception was incredibly unhelpful and rude and the very old and tiny rooms have a strong smell and don't even provide a plug to charge your phone.
Also, the hotel pool the hotel claims to provide for their guests is not actually availabe for guests. It is rented to non-inhouse guests for private use on an hourly basis. Since I have been living in Maldives for many years I know that you can get much better rooms and service for this room rates.

Most horrible stay I have ever had! The rooms are old and stinky. The Staff and Managment is incredibly rude and unhelpful to any request. No plug to charge the phones. THERE IS NO POOL AVAILABLE for in-house guests. Advertisement on booking platforms are misleading and not true.

My favourite food corner. Great hospitality and great food. Beautiful designs (spend a lot of time watching the ceiling - incredible).

View of the Iconic Mosque, Carnival square and the airport in a distance.

Their whole mallet fish is a must try. A great tiramisu on the menu, great to finish off .

I stayed in Mookai for 4 months and had the worst experience ever: a large amount of cash disappeared/got stolen from my room! I noticed it the day I moved out of the hotel to an appt. as it was kept in the safe in my hotel room. Reported it immediately. The hotel promised to do an internal inspection and told me one of the cleaners left a few days before I moved out!! They kept promising to find a solution for my compensation, yet NOTHING happened. It is more than 6 months since the thieft happened and I moved with a huge loss. Very bad experience handled really badly. Never stay in Mookai..

Like a lot of people using this hotel, we arrived into Male on a late night flight and needed somewhere to stay before being transferred to our resort the next day.
Locating the hotel at night was easy, just a quick $1 USD ferry ride from the airport and only a few hundred meter walk from the ferry wharf. The location was perfect for use as a transit hotel, we very relieved to not have to walk around Male late at night dragging our luggage looking for a hotel!
Check in was straight forward and the lady even informed us of the resort transfer plans for the next day.
We were given a room on the 7th floor, which was spacious for our needs and the room and bathroom were clean. The furnishings are bathroom quality were adequate and matched the low rate we paid for this hotel (low compared to traders and other hotels on the island).
The bed was a little hard and the bedding's minimal, the room was perfect for a 1 or 2 night budget stay but I wouldn't exactly spend a week here.
If looking for a hotel for a 1 night transit stop without paying a fortune then Mookai Hotel is perfect. The location alone makes it ideal for this purpose.

I know that many people arrive in Male late in the evening and need a place to stay until the morning when they will connect to their sea planes for transfer to the resort islands. A good, low cost alternative we found is the Mookai Hotel which is located in Male just adjacent to where the main jetty in the capital of Male. Thus all it requires is the short boat transfer from the Male Airport to the main jetty and a 100 meter walk to the hotel. The room are quite large and have AC. They are clean with firm smallish beds. An excellent (at least for Male) buffet breakfast is served at the hotel next door (yes you walk next door but it just 50 feet). The food was good and service nice. This is clearly for us a much better value than going to the OVERLY EXPENSIVE Hulhule Airport Hotel. This is the maillain hotel recommended to us and booked for us by Soneva Fushi resort and I think they would likely book the best hotel available on the main island. We have also stayed at the Central and Nusandara Hotels on the main island and this is much better.

We stayed at Mookai on 30/08/2014 for a night on transit to an island and even though we travel to developing countries all the time and are OK with sub standard hotels, with Mookai, we found the management and staff to be purely ignorant and lazy. We will never stay here again:

1. Bathroom - the shower area is filthy with black dirt stains
2. Lights - the bedside lights are not working
3. Towels - the towels are tiny and one of the 2 towels provided has some stains
4. Cobwebs - the wall right next to the drinking glasses have cobwebs and dust

Have attached photos. Mookai hotel owners/management needs to act on this pronto because I doubt anyone would take a second look after visiting it the first time.
