I had read reviews saying this place was traditional and a real experience of Japanese's life. We had stayed in other Ryokans before this one; and the manager here was extremely kind and welcoming ; but I personally found the ryokan quite "basic" for the price being paid. The rooms are very basic and the toilets could do with being... More

Traditional tatami room with views over the countryside. The ryokan is thatched and a beautiful example of a traditional building of the area. The owners are welcoming, and it's well worth booking dinner to sample local food at the ryokan whilst you stay. The owner is a Shinto priest and is happy to talk about his religion.

Oshi Ryokan is located high up in the mountains in the town of Togakushi, famed for its soba, shrines and legend of ninja. We went, however, in the winter where many attractions were closed and the main thing to do, apparently, is ski. We weren't skiers however, so we spent much of our time visiting shrines, trying our luck with... More

This was the first time we've ever stayed in a ryokan, but we trusted the good reviews and went for it. It was not disappointing. The owners Mr Oshi (a Shinto priest!) and Mrs Oshi are very welcoming, and are willing to suggest places to go in Togakushi. The breakfast was amazing, so we also tried dinner - it's a... More

My boyfriend and I could only fit one night of our itinerary here in Nagano, but we are so glad we chose this ryokan to spend it! The couple who run this traditional Japanese inn are lovely, and very eager to help make the most of your time with them. If like us, you don't rent a car, you can... More

This summer my wife and I spent 3 nights at Oshi Ryokan, in the mountains near Nagano. Mr Oshi and his wife are the best hosts you can wish for! They did everything to make us feel at home and enjoy our stay with them. The Japanese style room was spacious, clean and beautifully made, with tatami mats on the... More

We very much enjoyed our stay here, the host was very friendly, the food delicious and there was plenty of it, and the room we stayed in was clean, traditional and the perfect size for our family. It was fun to imagine all the people and history this building has seen. We stayed with our three small children. All under... More

This truely was an amazing experience for us in Japan. Host and hostess are very welcoming and the rooms are clean and traditional. Beautiful view as well! And then we had dinner....what can I say? In Holland this is worth a star! It was as beautiful as it was delicious, and more than enough. We cherish the time we were... More

This place was a highlight of my trip. One person gave this place an average grade mentioning the ninja parks were closed. They open in Spring (end of April) but i dont see what that has to do with the Ryokan. This place is great! Beautiful scenery and right at the beginning of the Shrine trail that has sone of... More
