Great boutique hotel in Japanese style. Very attentive staff. Nice part of Kyoto. Very good choice of Western or Japanese style breakfast. Stayed for 4 nights and was quiet and is neighborhood with many antique shops.

We stayed here after a very disappointing at a hybrid ryokan, western hotel near the train station. It is heaven. Each of the rooms are individually designed. Ours was enormous with complete with Apple charging station and a robot toilet. Loved it. There are all kinds of amenities including a pod coffee maker, green tea with sugar swizzle sticks and... Groovy place. Great rooms. Pick from their selection. Every one is different. Location is central and close to most places. Price is upper end. Not a bargain, but worth it. Expensive breakfast. Suggest eat elsewhere which is easy. Close to many many excel;lent restaurants. And the Imperial Gardens are opposite and well worth visiting. Walking distance to Gion and Nashiki... More

A fantastic boutique hotel. Had a very nice and spacy room - modern equiped. Very friendly staff and helpful to find the hot spots in town (restaurants, temples, fx exchange etc.) Very practical bike rent service at the front desk. Breakfast (both - japanese and western style) is just top such as the free Nespresso and water in the room... More

We stayed at the Screen for 3 nights. The bathrooms are spacious. However, the room layout was strange and quite un appealing. Despite requesting twin beds and being told we'll get them for 2 of the 3 nights we didn't get twins. The rooms are way to contemporary and despite the verve in the fridge and bose speakers and system,... More

We got the best bedroom of the hotel, really nice. Big bedroom considering you are in Japan. Breakfast was extremely expensive though. Good location, staff not too friendly, I believe is something to do with the culture difference.

Nice, clean rooms that are well designed and very large compared to the japanese standards, with good but slightly dated bathrooms. Great location. So all in all a very good choice. However: it is not a boutique hotel. Why? Let me quote 'Skift': "More than the design sensibility within the physical walls of the hotel, design-centric travelers want to feel... More

Bright large modern rooms. Fine breakfast. Very courteous and attentive staff. Ideal location especially for casual shopping for antiques, scrolls, woodcut prints, and lacquerware. Not easily accessible for physically handicapped.

This is a beautiful place to stay, so much so that we extended our booking for a further three nights. The rooms are individually designed, although the second one we had was better than the first - all very Austin Powers! All the staff were very charming and helpful, and despite the language barriers, we managed to make ourselves understood.... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
