We are a family of four and stayed at the Budget Inn for four nights and we were so happy. The service is so good and friendly; they have thought about everything you could need as a tourist. The bed are really good, we slept so well and the rooms are clean. It's nearby the train station witch is nice... More

My father, sister, two sons (aged 7 and 10) and I were in Kyoto for the final 4 nights of our Japan trip. We checked out on the 4th July 2016 and returned to Australia yesterday. The family room exceeded my expectations. It was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful and it was close to Kyoto Station. The room... More

Visual instructions from the Inn was very handy. Very conveniently located close to Kyoto Station and bus terminal as well as Isetan Dept Store, Porta Dining, etc. Plus there are lots of restaurants in the vicinity of the Inn. Washer and dryer on the 1st floor. You don't have to use the dryer as you can hang your laundry on... More

My husbad, son and I all recently stayed there in a traditional room with futons and mats, no chairs, etc. It was small but had a separate shower and toilet and refrigerator and room for our suitcases and clothes. And elevator. It was very clean and quiet, and plain but met all our needs. The young people at the front... More

I stayed 10 days at Kyoto with 2 friends. We tested several place to sleep (guest house, capsule hostel...), and this solution was for us the best. Near from Kyoto station, if you are here to visit, it's the best. We visited Hiroshima, Miya-Jima, Nara, Osaka, Kyoto in 10 Days only. All the staff is very kind and understanding about... More

Well, for an Australian after getting over the shock of what a 25 metre room looks like it was all pretty good. About 8 minutes walking distance to the Kyoto Railway station, close to everything. Don't made the mistake of walking on the Tatami mats with even indoor slippers, its only socks or bare feet. Japanese etiquette means there is... More

We stayed here fore four nights with a group of three people and really enjoyed our stay. The hostel is in a great location, being walking distance from the train/bus station and along some of the major bus routes. This made it extremely convenient to get around the city. The rooms themselves were fantastic and comfy, with tatami and comfy... More

Stayed in a room for 5 with a Japanese style tatami room, the room is clean, comfy beds, super friendly staff. Close to the main train station and market and restaurants. The staffs provide information on the tours in Kyoto, they recommend the best place to see and restaurants to visit. Our only concern is the check in time is... More

To get to the hotel, you have to do a 15minute walk from the nearest JR station. It's also strategically located near 2 bus stops, on which lets you get off on prime Kyoto destinations. It's also near a supermarket, wherein you can get local and pre-prepared food, too. There's a handful of Japanese restaurants, if you want to have... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
