Mitsui Garden Sanjo was the best hotel we stayed at in Japan. It is lovely and clean and quiet and staff spoke better English than most other places. Not only, but everyone went to great length in order to assist whenever possible. Additionally, our receptionist took charge of finding out what happened exactly with our luggage which had been lost... More

Nice, clean and comfortable hotel in central Kyoto. It is one block from the subway that takes you to the train station and to other sight-seeing locations in Kyoto. The rooms are not large, but are big enough for a businessman or travelers spending the night after a day of sight-seeing. There is very nice restaurant next door to the... More

Location is very good. Close to " 烏丸御池" station. There are several coffee shops and a book store, mos burger near hotel. Staff is very friendly and room is big enough to open luggage and you could walk in room easily. Makes me want to stay this hotel again and try their breakfast next time.

Adequate, but typically small Japanese rooms. The receptoin staff wer OK but we had a great deal of trouble with the booking due to their policy of defining a day as from 2.00 pm until 11.00am, so if you have a car, you are quoted a parking rate of 2,000yen for one of their days. If you park for three... More

We stayed there for 3 nights in July 2016, we booked a triple room through Expedia. We took taxi from Kyoto station to the hotel on the first day and it costed around 1000yen. We also took subway a few times and it was 3 or 4 subway stations from Kyoto station. The room was nice and clean, staffs were... More

The hotel is located in a residential area in central Kyoto. You can step out of the hotel, turn right, and within few minutes be in the shopping/restaurant areas of Central Tokyo, or you can turn left and wander in a residential area, and see kids going to school in the morning. There is a subway station close by, but... More

As many other reviews state, the rooms are small. We have a medium sized case and there is not room to leave it open in the room. Having said that, the room has all you need including a fridge, kettle, safe and hair dryer. The complimentary soaps etc are really good too. The location is excellent, only 3 stops from... More

The hotel gives a laid-back and relaxing feel. There is a small garden at the lobby area and Onsen for guests. Located near restaurants, some coffee shops and convenient stores. And most of all, it's just a few minutes walk to the railway station. Their buffet breakfast is superb! I stuffed myself before the almost endless walk to Kyoto's famous... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
