As many other reviews state, the rooms are small. We have a medium sized case and there is not room to leave it open in the room. Having said that, the room has all you need including a fridge, kettle, safe and hair dryer. The complimentary soaps etc are really good too. The location is excellent, only 3 stops from... More

The hotel gives a laid-back and relaxing feel. There is a small garden at the lobby area and Onsen for guests. Located near restaurants, some coffee shops and convenient stores. And most of all, it's just a few minutes walk to the railway station. Their buffet breakfast is superb! I stuffed myself before the almost endless walk to Kyoto's famous... More

A nice hotell located in the middle of Kyoto. Very friendly and customer focused staff. The hotell is located in an area with many restaurants and also nice shopping. They also have a public bath you can use as a guest. I could definately stay there again.

This is a "business" style hotel in Kyoto. It is close to a great range of cafes nearby and the main markets are walkable. It is a long way (around 3km) from the main railway station however the underground line gets you to within a 10 minute walk to the hotel. It has an in-house "Onsen" which is available to... More

This hotel is very conveniently located, near the subway station, and a Bank and a Starbucks. The staff at the reception and check in counter did their best to help us, but were not very comfortable speaking English. We found the rooms themselves to be very small, with barely enough space to fit our luggage. We liked the Public Bath... More

We chose this hotel as it appeared to offer a more Japanese than international hotel experience, plus the location appeared good. We were not disappointed. The property has some nice touches (like the "garden" view in the lobby and the public baths on the 2nd floor). Yes, the rooms are very small and there was basically no storage space, but... More

Centrally located, being only 2 subway stops from the Imperial Palace and Gardens and very near a Starbucks, shops and the entrance to a subway station. The staff is friendly and eager to serve although their English will be in a peculiar Japanese accent. There is a beautiful Japanese inner courtyard. It is away from the traffic, therefore quiet and... More

We stayed in Kyoto for 4 days and 5 nights. We booked a "renovated twin room" which was larger than a standard twin room; but when we arrived we found the room was so tiny we cold barely open our suitcases on the floor, and there were no cupboards or draws to put your clothes in (just two hooks on... We can not say enough about how great the staff was at Mitsui Garden Hotel. From before our arrival they were so helpful. Having never been to Japan, we were a little anxious about the train, subway, bus systems. But they gave us excellent directions coming from Kansai airport. And it was a good thing as our flight was delayed,... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
