This hotel is located close to subway, produce market and shops. It is a good jumping off spot for site seeing. There is a public bath - but limited to one pool in the one that i went to. There is nothing exceptionable about this hotel - but nothing bad to say either.

After previously staying in Mitsu Garden Ginza Premier in Tokyo we expected similar very small rooms. We were pleasantly surprized to find relatively bigger rooms, however, zero storage space. Breakfast is not included in the price. It's okay, combination of Japanese and Westetn cuisine. Probably 'the best you can get' in a hotel but don't expect a 'wow' breakfast.

We have been charmed and impressed by the level of sophistication and refinement customer service reaches in Japan. However our experience at Matsui Garden has been an exception to the rule when it comes to outstanding customer care in this country. We have experienced our worst incident in this hotel and have been appalled by how things have been handled....

We stayed here 4 nights and were very satisfied. The staff were friendly, room was small but cosy. It is very quiet, clean, and very close to the main shopping area of Kyoto. Also it can be reached easily by public transportation (subway station is 2 minutes away). Many restaurants in walking distance

Great hotel for the price. You can't beat the location and price! It was very clean and the staff was very helpful. The onsen downstairs is awesome with a view of a small cozy garden! Rooms were not that small compared to other hotels in Japan.

The hotel was well placed for both subway and major dining, shopping and entertainment areas. The triple room was well appointed and comfortable. Helpful and friendly staff. The breakfast was a little squashy and most hot dishes lukewarm.

Overall a nice mid range hotel. The staff is very friendly and willing to speak english and make your stay a great experience. Stayed at this hotel over the New Year holiday. The hotel was full, and a little crowded, but the staff did a great job making everyone comfortable. The rooms are small -- typical of Japanese hotels, but well-equipped and comfortable. There is a public bath -- small, but a nice feature. The breakfast buffet was terrific -- mostly Japanese, with...

What a lovely hotel! Extremely well situated close to a main train station; beautiful garden in the lobby; helpful and friendly staff and just an all round nice hotel. Room (although very small which I believe is the standard in Japan) was really nice with a comfortable bed fully functional bathroom. Definitely a winner!

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
