4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2016

Stayed here for 3 nights in July. The place have a hostel feel to it but not in a bad way. There is a small kitchen if you are on a budget and want to prepare your own meal. We had a 4 person room for 2 persons, this was pretty nice, 4 persons might have been crowded. Simple but... More

We were welcomed with 'If you break anything you will pay and you have to tell us". We had to pay upfront and the reception was really reluctant to take card payment. Not to mention that reception is off site. Rooms are extremely small, if you have two suitcases you won't be able to open them or to walk to... More

Thank you for your stay, patience during your stay, and review. We deeply apologize for our rudeness or uncleanness mentioned. Although we check the cleaning after it is done, there was a lack of it. We also educate all of staff to be informative or polite for customer satisfactions. In fact, we have had many evaluations saying the staff was... More

We stayed 5 nights in this guest house. Good service at the front desk. Good indications to get to the room. Once there, we had a nice room, just enough confortable. The kitchen, which we had access to, was convenient, just like the common living room. Everything was clean. Only default: the walls are pretty thin and we heard the... More

We sincerely thank you for your stay and great feedback although there is a sound trouble. We are always trying hard not to cause this problem, it sometimes happens. However, we are thinking of another solution for this problem now, too. Apart from that, we got good comments and even a recommendation from you. We believe this positive review bring... More

First off, do your research. This is a hotel / guest room in an Asian Country, of course the rooms as small, hallways are tight and restrooms are limited. However, you get more than your values worth here. Check in down the block, easy access to convenient stores and buses (10 - 15 min walk). I also enjoyed the small... More

Good location, we basically walked everywhere we needed to go. We got a room on the first floor with attached bathroom. It was clean and the futon comfortable but there was a permanent damp smell to the place. There was a handwritten restaurant/bar guide in the kitchen that was helpful and a bunch of tips on the walls. Cute place... More

I visited this place for 3 nights during my trip in Kyoto in April 2015. For me, I was like 13-15 mins walk from Kyoto St. The address that was given on their website or on TA was not a place to check in. The alley was so tiny and dark. So,I did have a difficult time to find the... More

Stayed here with a few friends in a standard room, whereby you lay your own futon etc out on the floor. Location was good, if a little tucked away (key collection was from a hidden away reception/bar around the corner), but within easy walking distance from Kyoto's main train station. A few friendly family noodle joints within close vicinity, and... More

We were here in June 2015 with two small children 3 and 5. We were able to get one of the two rooms on the main floor, which was nice for our youngest to avoid the steep stairs. There is a decent kitchen well equipt on the main floor but it gets a bit crowded where there are a few... More

Pros (+): - Location (10 min walk from Kyoto station) - In a quiet pedestrian street - Close to bus/subway/train station - Close to restaurant/convenience shops - Clean Cons (-): - Tiny room - No futon but 2 thin mattresses on top of each other (not comfortable) - Noisy place because of the very thin "walls" (you can literally hear... This accommodation was fine if you just need a tiny room to sleep in. It was clean and sufficient. However, I did not feel like I had a Ryokan experience that many people speak of in Japan, and that was disappointing. In addition, the rooms are REALLY small and at times it stressed me out.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
