The Hotel Brighton is one five minute train stop from Kyoto with a frequent train service available. Train station is literally across the road from the station and there is an underground walkway to it from the station. The rooms were quite small but reasonable for Japan. Many eating establishments in close proximity and a supermarket on the bottom level... More

Yamashina is the next JR station from Kyoto and from the station, it takes only few minutes to reach the hotel. I stayed in a smoking room as it is cheaper than smoking but it did not smell at all as somebody claimed. It has a free public bath but during weekdays priority is given to ladies so men can... Good location right across from the train station (this include the JR, rail and subway stations) which make it easy access to Kyoto's main train station and any attractions. There is an underpass which will link the hotel (lift to B1) to the station. As usual, Japan hotel will not allow you to do early check-in even if the room... More

We weren't in our room much for our trip to Kyoto because we wanted to explore the city but this hotel was a great location. Most hotels in the middle of Kyoto are pretty pricey but this spot was a good value and right across from the train station which was only one stop (5 mins) from Kyoto's main train... More

Stayed in this hotel for four nights in April. Terrific location just one stop on the JR line from Kyoto. The room was small, but clean and served its purpose. We found a few great places to eat down a side street close to the hotel. Great food at a reasonable price. The locals were very friendly and helpful.

Not great. Train ride from Kyoto is five to ten minutes but hotel is opposite Yamashina station. Rooms are ok and beds very small. No bat for evening drink but for breakfast there is a me doughnut and Starbucks within 5 by station. Would not recommend sadly.

Arrived too early in the hotel. My friends and i were extremely tired after heading from Tokyo. We couldn't do early check in but no problem. We know the hotel's rules anyway. The staffs were very friendly and very responsive. He offered us password for wifi and showed us where the rest room is. He also gave us map of... More

It's a decent 3 star hotel. Nicely proportioned beds, reasonably spacious rooms. The location of the hotel is exellent. It is practically above the Yamashina station, only one stop from the Kyoto station. In spite of this, the rooms are very, very quiet. For all you know you could be at a countryside. However, it's still difficult to justify the... More

We got a deal on Expedia for the hotel and it included breakfast. We were a little hesitant at first because of the not-so-positive reviews we found for the hotel. But for the price we paid for the 6 nights, we were willing to comprise on comfort and location. We were very surprised when we arrived at the hotel to... More

It is close to the train station, but I had to ask a passerby to find it. Absolutely no action surrounding the hotel, only one department store next door. It is very local, even though it is only one station ride on the local train to the central Kyoto station. Hotel itself is clean, small, normal amenities with 3 to... More

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
