City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

First of all thanks to "Ester C" for writing that first review. Love hotels are a very important part of the Japanese culture (eventhough one that people don't talk about too much :-)). Since we want to learn as much about Japan as possible we stayed in a capsule hotel and in a love hotel. To the hotel itself: The price is very affordable for Japanese standards. Our room was 9980 Yen (about 88€). Reservation via booking.com, payment at arrival. The location is pretty close to the main sights and close to the bus line 100 that passes most of them. Now to the amenities you get: Biggest room we had in Japan, very clean as well, complimentary breakfast (not the best food we had in Japan, but still ok), jacuzzi (in the lobby is a variety of complimentary bath salts you can choose from), massage chair, free beauty products, Playstation, Slot- and Karaoke machine. They now also offer free wifi. Finally downsides: Far biggest downside: At least our room seemed to be a smoking room. I don't know if there are any non smoking rooms. The remote for the AC was in Japanese. An English manual would be quite helpful. Same for the Playstation and the Karaoke system. Last of all there are several porn channels on the TV and sex toys for your pleasure. We did not really care - but remember in the end it's a love hotel :-)

It is a love-hotel but we had a nice stay. The room was huge, very comfortable and clean. The double bed was extra large and the room was also provided with a massage chair, a huge TV with microphones for karaoke and a playstation with two controls, jacuzzi (with a choice of salts at the entrance of the hotel) and a game machine. The bathroom was full of toileteries (face mask, hydrating lotion, hair mousse...) and also hair dryier, hair straightener... There is no wifi, only cable internet. We had dinner and breakfast in the room and the food was delicious! The contact with the hotel staff is kept to a minimal though, the recepcionist was hiden behind curtains to respect the privacy of clients, and food is delivered via a small shelf next to the main door which can be accessed from inside and outside the room. I would recommend this hotel for a different experience!
