My sister and I spent one night at Ryokan Shimizu and we had the most wonderful experience! We wish we could have stayed longer! Everything is very well taken care of, the decoration is beautiful, the room is perfectly done. We took the bath, and pictures with the kimonos, it was great! Besides, everyone is very welcoming, kind and always smiley and ready to help. Arigatou!!
Lovely family ryokan located in a quiet street at 10 minutes walk from Kyoto Station. We were welcomed by a super friendly lady, who made us feel at home as soon as we entered. Our room was in the first level with lots of natural light. The room is a typical Japanese traditional with tatamis and futons. At night they brought us some warm tea which was perfect as it was still rather cold in January. On our check out we were gifted with 4 coasters and a polaroid. 100% recommended!!
The stay here was fantastic. Every one was really nice and helpful! The hotel was very clean and the mats were comfortable. It felt as though you were staying at a family members house, but nicer. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. It is in a great location as well, super close to the train station. I would definitely stay here again!!
The Ryokan owners made me feel right at home. On Fourth July when I was feeling homesick for the United Sates they bought fire works to set off. The hotel was very clean and the Onsen was super nice. They served a breakfast that was hand made for each person I stayed with. As a side note owner of the Ryokan plays the ukulele fantastic. Please stay here if you are going to Kyoto.
Their service was unmatched, made us feel right at home. They even surprised us with fireworks thinking we missed the US and it was our independence day. I cannot thank them enough and words cannot describe the amazing hospitality and welcome they gave us. If in this area there’s no other place i’d rather stay!
I stayed here on a study abroad trip with the rest of my class, and I have to say the experience was one of a kind. The Ryokan itself was extremely clean and felt very traditional. There was a bunch of tiny things that they provided that made all of us feel extremely welcome and at home. My class was also there on the 4th of July and the owners went out of their way to provide us with fireworks so we could celebrate our nations Independence Day. I would recommend this Ryokan to anyone who is thinking of visiting the Kyoto area and wants a traditional and very welcoming experience.
We stayed for 2 nights and it was wonderful. If they have a free night, book it! It is run by the most lovely family and they go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The Ryokan is super clean, homely and very conveniently located to the train station as attractions. You can also hire bikes to ride around. We had a room with a private bathroom which was great. The bath house is also wonderful which you can book. We walked to lots of restaurants, supermarkets, transport and attractions. Would have liked to stay longer, it was really relaxing. Highly recommend
You sort of feel like your are visiting some uncles or grandparents when you stay here. Its quaint, and a nice place to satay for a night or so. A bit of a walk to the station but nothing too bad. You dont get full service but this is a budget Ryokan so its to be expected.
The ryokan vas very simple on the outside, but as you enter the door you’ll see the beauty of the place...the room, the mattresses, the toilet are clean...the hallway floor is very clean...definitely worth what you paid for!!!
The Ryokan’s location is very convenient. It’s extremely clean, residents are mindful or reminded of the need to be silent because the walls are thin. It would be hard to find a better deal. I highly recommend it to get a taste of Japanese traditional life. No need to worry about the tatamis. I had my best sleep in a long time.
