Stayed here for 1 night for a quick Kyoto trip. Wanted a traditional ryokan stay, wasn't prepared to spend the typical large amount of cash that most cost. The experience was a positive one overall, however a ryokan by its definition is basic, with a mattress on a tatami mat floor. So why splurge on the fancy ryokans one might...

This hotel was a great way to experience a Ryokan in a slightly westernized style. The hotel was neat and clean with an exceptionally friendly staff. The rooms were spacious and traditional. They had options for both tatami mats, or "westernized" cots that added a little cushion to the tatami mat experience. We didn't take advantage of the dinner offered,...

We stayed three nights at this great hotel. It has the feel of a Japanese Ryokan but is a bit more upscale than the traditional. The hotel is on a quiet street and close to many local restaurants. It is about a 10 min. cab ride from Kyoto station but it puts you in the center of the real downtown...

This is the best hotel I stayed during the vacation in Japan. Japanese style room with very hospitable staffs. Location is great, walking distance to Nikishi market and bus station in Shijo area.Dinner and breakfast is also very delicious. I can never forget the staff even wave a flag for farewell after check out. Amazing experience!

With Japanese hospitality at its best, this ryokan and it staff made my stay very enjoyable. The staff are gracious, kind, attentive, and always helpful. The rooms are comfortable, elegant, and very clean. This ryokan is conveniently situated in the heart of Kyoto.

My family stayed there around Christmas time. We all love it. Excellent Ryokan experience. The setting and environment are perfect for a quiet stay. It cleansed your mind body and soul during you stayed there. The room is huge. The staff are extremely friendly. It locates on a quiet street, about 10 mins walk from Nishiki market, major department stores...

Such a great find of a place, location is perfect for exploring Kyoto. Nishiki market is on the doorstep. The traditional Japanese style rooms were great to experience. The Onsen was lovely and a must to use.

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
