My wife and I spent two nights at Hyatt, me for business and my wife for vacation. We both felt very welcomed by the staff. Concierge helped us book two places in Kyoto and they both exceeded our expectations. My wife toured Kyoto on her own and she received helpful advice from concierge. The hotel throughout is decorated in great details in modern Kyoto aesthetics incorporating comfort and cleanliness. Right outside hotel there is a bus stop and a subway station with an easy walk (or 18 minutes to Kyoto Station). It's an excellent choice for staying in Kyoto.
The hotel offers great value for its cost. The quality of the service was more like a 5* hotel. Breakfast and room service was delicious. Location is not very central and you might need public transportation or taxi to move around town.
I had booked a room here for my wife's special birthday and we were looking forward to a night in a highly rated hotel in Kyoto. I booked one of their nicer rooms on the top floor, a deluxe 2 double bed room with balcony for Y65,000 ($600 USD). My wife checked us in while I parked the car, then the bellman escorted me to the room with luggage. When I asked why we werent going to the elevators from the parking garage he said, "Because your room is in the basement, but don't worry it isn't that bad." WTF? I thought he was joking, but sure enough I was escorted to a basement level room overlooking a nondescript rock garden with direct view in to our room from the restaurant above and the only way to get privacy was to close all the curtains. I called the reception and had to argue with them for 20 minutes explaining this was not the room we had booked. Finally the Manager came to our room and said that they would be "upgrading" us to a better room. I was furious, we were not asking for an upgrade but the room that we had booked. In any case, shown to the room we booked which was as expected according to our reservation confirmation but the Manager continued to act like he was doing us a favor. In any case, we found out the next day that there was a large wedding party staying on the floor we were on that they presumably wanted our room for, hence the deliberate attempt to deceive us. I checked the rates online and the room in the basement was listed at less than half of what we had paid. To add insult to injury, they said the bar was closed because of Covid restrictions but we had chosen this hotel specifically for their bar. When I complained, Lie #2: as they said they had no way of reaching us. Nice room, great bath, and excellent breakfast all ruined by lying, patronizing hotel staff.…
I highly recommend this hotel! From the friendly staff, to the spacious and clean rooms, my experience here was very positive. What impressed me most was that all of their bath products were vegan, and they even had a vegan plate on the breakfast menu! Being a vegan myself, I was very thrilled since vegan options are not readily available in Japan. Their sourdough avocado toast is a must!
Hyatt Regency Kyoto met AND exceeded all of our wants and needs as we celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary in Kyoto, Japan. The entire staff was VERY attentive from arrival through departure. Whenever we would casually mention what we were going to do, or what we wanted to do, other staff members would speak to us with their ideas and recommendations - making us feel even more special during this milestone vacation. An excellent location, both near temples and museums and an easy bus or taxi ride to other major attractions in the area. The rooms are extremely comfortable and quiet. I would not hesitate in STRONGLY recommending this hotel, and their wonderful Staff, to anyone we know. Thank you for making our 40th Wedding Anniversary so special!!
