Stayed 5 days at this tower hotel, easy to find in central Kyoto very close to Gojo subway station. The hotel is modern and very clean, with very friendly and helpful English-speaking staff. The twin-bed rooms, although not spacious, are big enough and very well appointed, with tea/coffee making etc, but only Japanese TV channels. The buffet breakfast, with Japanese...

Got a fairly good rate for the time of year. Would have liked to have stayed at one of the hotels by Kyoto train station/Bus Terminal (like the Granvia) as Kyoto is so easily navigated by bus, but rates for those hotels were very high. Still, the Aranvert was just down the street about 3 blocks from the station. A...

Dismal little room with stains on the bed cover and big clumps of someone else's hair on the floor by the window. The carpet had clearly not been cleaned. Its a pretty miserable little hotel, in dire need of a refurb. We were given a non smoking room which reeked of cigarettes too. I complained and was given a different...

By recommendation from the reviewers on this site, we stayed two nights in the Aranvert earlier this month. It was a very clean, affordable hotel, with very pleasant staff. The rooms were pleasantly sized, not the small rooms we expected to find in Japan. The location is conveniently 1 block away from the subway station, just one station away from...

The staff was friendly. The room seemed business oriented. Decorations were fairly drab and the room had no view. Good enough to get a good night sleep. Fairly close to transportation (a little over a block from subway and I believe 2 stops to main train station).

A very clean hotel, rooms not too small by Japan's standards. Very helpful and friendly staff who were always very willing to provide directions, etc. Not a lot to see in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, but it's about 20 minutes walk to the main shopping street (Shijo). Overall, a positive experience!

We immediately booked a room here after discovering bed bugs at the New Miyako hotel. The staff was extremely accommodating and the room was very clean. Great location (within walking distance to the Gion district) and close to major subway stations and buses. Will definitely stay here again when we come back to Kyoto!

The Aranvert is an excellent hotel, with very friendly, helpful staff, very nice rooms, and is well located. The free in-room internet access was fast and robust. I never got to the communal bath at the top of the hotel, but did reach the very useful laundrette, which had two washers and dryers that were cheap to use. I really...

We stayed for 5 nights - 2 adults & 1 child. Rooms are a good size, hotel is very clean, staff is very helpful. There are 2 coin washing machines & 2 dryers on the top floor. We did not use the baths, though saw many going to & from. The restaurant is very good and we ate dinner there...

Stayed at Aranvert, as my original intended hotels were fully booked. The staff were friendly and the rooms spacious and clean. Hotel approximately 5 minutes walk from Gojo subway station and 20-30mins stroll to the main JR rail station. Didn't really sample the hotel restaurants. More than adequate hotel for needs and would recommend it to other travellers who are...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
