The location of this hotel is very good. It's in between the train station area and central kyoto. There is a metro station nearby but both areas are in walking distance. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are spacious (for Japanese rooms). The biggest downside of this hotel are the very extreme hard beds. After four night, there... More

It was a wonderful experience to staying there a couple days. They are really kind, friendly and clean. For the memory, I had forgotten a coat there, and they had send that to a friend of mine in Osaka. They have a really nice service and full of people kind too. Congrats to them.

No help on the luggages to the room, which i thought it's normal for 3 star hotel in Japan, but the price we paid was almost 5 star hotel. But we have been helped with the luggages at all hotels we stayed, except Aranvert. So not sure why. However, the rooms were renovated ones and very clean, especially bathroom. Then... More

The hotel is situated in a good location, close to a subway line and a bus line which brings you to main tourist attractions. Moreover it is only one station from the Kyoto central station. The rooms are clean but nothing special. However for that price I would expect some English TV channels, at least BBC or CNN. Staff spoke... More

Visited Kyoto in April as my wife really wanted to see the gardens, temples and cherry trees. Booked towards end of Feb and hotels were already hard to find, so settled on Aranvert, and it was not inexpensive- around £175 a night room only. (much much cheaper the earlier you book!). The best way to describe it is - a... More

Another nice onsen hotel at affordable price! From ladies onsen, you may enjoy the view of Kyoto tower. The hotel are near to Gojo subway station. Counter staff are friendly and helpful. They booked a taxi for us from hotel to Kyoto station.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
