Very good hotel with very big room size especially compares to japanese room standard. We select the refurbished room one and very happy with the room. The onsen on the top level is also very clean and nice, a good options after walking in the chilling winter the whole day. The location is very near Gojo Station and there are... More

checking in was a brisk for me as hotel staff were able to communicate well. Rooms were comfortable and generally clean and tidy. Surroundings are quiet as well except during the morning rush hours. the public bath was awesome and enjoyable. from the women's side, the city's lights and kyoto tower can be see clearly through its windows. However, it... More

The hotel is a fifteen-minute walk from the Kyoto station (or two minutes from metro station Goyo). The management seems to prefer privacy: no big signs outside the hotel, just some very dim (almost sad) lights. So you notice the hotel only when you are near its entrance. When you enter the hotel a large lobby welcomes you but an... More

Hotel is partially refurbished so be sure to request. Great beds and linens. Bathrooms are nice but small even for Japan. Staff very helpful. Breakfast is good. Hot public baths are well cared for and on upper level with great view. Laundry available on site. Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed there for 3 nights. My room was quite small for European standard but it was good. The room was very clean and quiet. The breakfast is good. The location is good. You can easily walk to the center of Kyoto or to the central train station.

The rooms at this hotel can't be described as any more than average for the price. The beds, carpets, bathroom, furniture etc. all felt a bit tired and in need of modernisation. I can't comment on the breakfast as we had to check out before they started serving.

I stayed here with an Australian school group. It was an ideal hotel. Centrally located one train stop from Kyoto station and a less than five minute walk to the station. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast area was a bit small and crowded. Breakfast was OK. Coffee drinkable. The Rooms were spotlessly clean. They are small but we... More

We stayed as part of a tour for 5 nights. The rooms are a bit worn but it is under renovation and was a perfect location. We never heard any noise from construction and it was close to temples and the Kyoto station. Breakfast was great, the hot bath on the 13th floor was superb. Beds are hard but that... More

We only stayed at this hotel for one night, when our itinerary changed and we couldn't book the extra night at the hotel we had our original booking with. We actually liked this hotel better than the one we moved to the following day. This was a good, clean hotel with friendly, helpful staff. The twin room was a reasonable... More

The Hotel is superclean and elegantly decorated. The reception staff is polite and helpful. There were yukatas (traditional Japanese clothing) waiting on our beds - this is part of the amenities offered by hotels in Japan. The bathroom was very clean and well equipped. Smoking is allowed only on the patio of the 3rd floor, which, was convenient for me... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
