Stayed for one night, and liked a lot. Bed was really heavenly - as promised, balcony, amenities, bathroom - everything was luxurious. Not really in centre of Kyoto, but if you want to visit Philosopher's walk (what is one of must-places in Kyoto anyway due to temples, shrines and atmosphere) it is well located. Subway is close so easy connection... More

I am not sure what the people that gave this hotel 2 stars are talking about. They must have been thinking of another hotel on their trip, because this Westin is anything BUT old and dumpy. It is new, classy, clean, the rooms and bathrooms are fantastic, the service is fantastic, great location, great views. This was one of four... More

We just spent 3 days in the miyako hotel which must have had better days... it is a bit out of the way, I would stay closer to Gion, it felt as thought they were constantly skimping on all details, you had to pay to breathe... business center and atmosphere sad

I had stayed at a Westin before and this place surpassed it. I have stayed in a few hotels over the last couple of years and this one became my favorite. Beautiful property and the rooms as well. I did not interact with the staff much since I was looking at all the sites. Excellent housekeeping though. There is a... More

I though this hotel was great. The location was really only a 20 min walk to the main area in Kyoto, the japanese buffet breakfast they have was amazing, great views of Kyoto especially on the roof top lounge, and a free shuttle that was very handy and convenient . They also had a great workout facility and pool which... More

Visited Kyoto during the cherry blossom season and well knew that the hotel charge was higher than other seasons and demand was great. This hotel was relatively not close to the Kyoto JR. I chose it because of the good comments here on the rooms and also for the reason that it had a carpark at reasonable charge. The staff... More

This is a great hotel, and I would highly recommend it. Location: you don't want to be in the centre of Kyoto, where there is the hustle and bustle. You may as well be in Tokyo. The Westin faces the mountains, is very close (less than 2 min) walk to the subway station, and Westin provides a free shuttle bus... More

We came to Kyoto after visiting Tokyo and took the JR train down. Full disclosure - we stayed here on Starwood points. Based on the prices we saw online, this hotel is expensive so I'm sure our feeling on the hotel would've been different if we paid the $350 - $500 per night charges we were seeing. POSITIVES: Room: upon... More

We spent two nights here, hotel was selected by travel services company and (aside from Hyatt Regency hotel) appears to be best in Kyoto. They make a big deal out of how Queen Elizabeth and other celebrities stayed here. Room was fairly large for Japan, bed was very comfortable. This is a large hotel, very busy, lots of action. I recently stayed for a week at the Westin Kyoto with my teenage children and elderly parents. The hotel staff on the whole tries very hard to provide good service. I had requested adjacent rooms and a roll away bed and these were all arranged when we got there. We thought the room was too dark to read in bed... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
